The bit at the start

Howdy all, I'm feeling sick as a dog this evening so I'm going to tear right through this thing as quick as I can. Fortunately I've got something wonderful to lead with.

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.

Sufjan Stevens – All delighted people EP

Oh you hadn't heard of it? Read on.

You news, you lose

Yay.

On Friday afternoon, seemingly out of nowhere a brand new Sufjan Stevens EP appeared on the songwriter's bandcamp page. The 8 song All Delighted People EP clocks in around the hour mark and is available to stream now or to download for the (actually it's really rare that I say this about paid for downloads) low-low price of $5.

If that's still too much too pay for the physical copy loyalists a CD and a double LP version should be released around December time.

You can listen to the whole thing below, it's pretty great, reminds me quite a bit of Michigan and Seven Swans and less of Illinois which I always though to be a little overblown.

New music from my favourite ever band.

It's been a long, long time since the last Wrens album The Meadowland (basically my favourite record ever) but after years of false starts, broken promises, marriages and new born babies proper work on that album's follow up is under way.

In fact almost all the fresh material from the band since their last record has taken the form of material from benefit records and this new tune is no different. "Crescent" is a demo version of possible song from the new record which will feature on Dear New Orleans, a benefit from Air Traffic Control which is a group that connects musicians to social justice causes, and which is released today.

The album is to mark the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and is in aid of various NOLA nonprofits including Sweet Home New Orleans and Gulf Restoration Network.

Here's the song:

More info here.

This is just terrible.

On Thursday night in San Francisco a man committed suicide at a Swell Season concert. The incident happened while the band were playing their gig, between songs. The man jumped from the roof of The Mountain Winery, fell about 3 stories and landed onstage beside band front man Glen Hansard.

Unsurprisingly the show ended immediately.

The band subsequently issued the following statement, "The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night. Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family."

New Destroyer.

November 2nd will see the release of a new 2 track EP from Destroyer on Merge Records entitled Bay Of Pigs.

The a-side is "Archer On The Beach" will feature Dan Bejar and Tim Hecker while the b-side "Grief Point" will feature contributions from Loscil. The EP will be limited to 1,000 copies.

Speaking about the release Bejar said, "I'm not responsible for any of the music contained on this EP aside from the vocals, the general chord progression of 'Archer on the Beach', and maybe a couple of the sound effects."
