Due to my dad listening to his music I've been a Bruce Springsteen fan for longer than probably anyone else in music. In fact from the ages of around 7 to 11 all that I can remember listening to is Tunnel Of Love and the Live: 1975-1985 box set so I was pretty delighted last week when it was announced that my favourite Bruce + the band album Darkness On The Edge Of Town (whether it or Nebraska is my overall favourite Springsteen record is usually dependant on mood) is getting the super deluxe reissue treatment that Born To Run got a few years back.
The 6 disc (that's 3 CD's and 3 DVD's) The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story will be released on Columbia on November 16th.
The CD's will come in the form as a remastered version of the original album along with 2 discs of 21 previously unreleased songs that Springsteen claims "could have/should have been released after Born to Run and before the collection of songs that Darkness on the Edge of Town became." Amongst those songs is a rocked up version of the album's "Racing In The Street" and the original recordings of "Because The Night" and "Fire", the former most famously recorded by Patti Smith and both of them previously available on the afore mentioned live box set.
When it comes to the visual portion of things there'll be a new 90 minute documentary from which the collection gets it's name. The film will also be premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 14th and will screen on HBO on October 7th.
Additionally there's 2 discs worth of live footage including a 26 track bootleg of a Houston Show in 1978 as well as a 2009 performance of the entire album in Asbury Park's Paramount Theater.
As well as that there's an 80-page booklet with pages from Springsteen's notebook and a new essay from him.

Volume 9 of Bob Dylan's bootleg series, The Witmark Demos 1962-1964 is out on Columbia on October 18th in the UK and the following day in the US.
The 2 disc set collects acoustic demos that Dylan recorded between 1962 and 1964 for his first publishers. All these recordings are being released for the first time and 15 of the songs have never been released before.
