The Hip-Hop Herald 09.09.10: Twitter Beef!
Posted by Patrick Robinson on 09.09.2010
This week, 50 Cent attacks Perez Hilton after promising to stop using Twitter, Soulja Boy challenges Fabolous to a freestyle battle, Ice Cube's tracklist is available, DMX names Plies as one of the worst rappers out there and another guard in trouble at Rikers over Lil Wayne!
Work has been a bit chaotic recently as we have had a number of people sick (and one person got fired) so I've been doing the work of three people at once on a few days. Not to mention that half the office is sick (but some still come to work, much like I normally do so I can't criticize) and thus explains my absence last week.
On that note, I still feel pretty crappy and my eyes are killing me so I'm making this short and sweet. 6 shots and I'm out.
By the way, the guy that got fired? I got his job. So yeah, I got hired in 2 weeks, promoted in 2 months and 2 days and have already developed serious stomach aches and headaches due to the amount of problems in this guy's clientele. I mean, people are calling me up asking "Where's my order?" which is a fair enough question but when I look at the order history, HE NEVER PLACED AN ORDER FOR THEM. So it's really no wonder why every time my phone rings I feel like bashing it against my skull first.
The Musical Intro
Jim Jones – "Emotionless" from the album Hustler's P.O.M.E.
Jim Jones isn't exactly the best rapper out there but he's a hell of a lot better than Soulja Boy. Plus the beat is pretty good on this track.
The News
50 Cent Starts Twitter Beef
50 Cent continues to shake things up with a series of posts on Twitter this week that drew the scorn of celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton.
There are times when I feel like sticking a knife into a toaster. Having read what this article was about is one of them.
50 Cent took to his Twitter page on September 6 and took aim at Perez Hilton, who labeled 50 Cent a "douche bag".
Later, 50 Cent addressed the issue when he jokingly tweeted that he had a friend shoot up a gay wedding, along with a link to a picture of people fleeing a tragic scene.
Hilton immediately noticed the tweets and replied.
"50 Cent joking about violence towards gays is about as expired as the days when he used to be musically relevant," Perez Hilton tweeted.
Longtime readers will probably know that I think soap scum has more value to society than Perez Hilton but for once I actually agree with the idiot. Shooting up any kind of gathering is not a joking matter as it happens far too often in real life. Although I will give Perez props for coming up with a dig at 50 being irrelevant like that.
50 replied that he wasn't scared of the "pink mafia," an alleged underground powerful group of gay Hollywood movers and shakers.
50 then posted another link to a man on a subway doing a split with the quotation: "You're dead 50! Dead! We are looking for your ass!"
50 Cent then urged Hilton to calm down.
"Stop being so sensitive its a joke," 50 Cent posted. "Your acting like a big baby have a nice day…And my next song will make your sweet ass dance lol chill out."
Good to know 50 Cent possesses the basic knowledge of grammar-rape required to use Twitter too.
Perez Hilton insinuated that 50 Cent might be homosexual, accusations that were also levied at the rapper by openly gay singer, Rufus Wainwright in an April issue of Details magazine.
"50 Cent joking about my sweet ass confirms my suspicions about 50 Cent. And scene!"
Ok again, kind of funny on Perez' part. But seriously though, this is another example of 50 starting shit, and then realizing that he doesn't stand a chance and trying to play it off as a joke. I'm not saying that Perez Hilton could out-rap 50 Cent or sell more albums than him, but if you consider Perez Hilton's industry power, 50 Cent is way out of his league. When you think gossip, you think TMZ, when you think TMZ, you think Perez Hilton so imagine if Perez Hilton actually put some effort into hounding 50 Cent's every move, the dude would be exhausted and paranoid by the end of a fortnight! So yeah, 50 Cent really shouldn't have started crap, he should have taken THE HIGH ROAD and said something REMOTELY INTELLECTUAL and shown the world that Perez Hilton is an immature dick (which he is most of the time). Instead, 50 is made to look like a clown by a man who DOES actually look like a clown.
Soulja Boy Challenges Fabolous On Twitter
Dear Fab, please destroy Soulja Boy. Thanks, The Public.
One thing to be thankful for with Twitter is the simple fact that it gives celebrities the most opportunities humanly imaginable to embarrass themselves for the hilarity of all those not involved.
Soulja Boy has challenged Fabolous to a battle over a series of posts the Fabolous sent out last week making fun of Soulja Boy's alleged meeting with Kat Stacks. Fabolous, who is known for starting trending topics on Twitter with his posts, lashed out at Soulja Boy after footage of him hit the net with Kat Stacks in a hotel room, allegedly using cocaine.
Although Soulja Boy has denied any drug use, Fabolous began to berate him on Twitter.
"Lettin Kat Stacks in ur hotel room alone is #StupidBoySwag," Fabolous posted last month. "All u rappers pay attention, that right there is called#StupidBoySwag* AYYYY."
…
…
…
Who the hell is Kat Stacks? Am I that out of touch that I have to Google someone mentioned in a story like this?
The short answer is yes but in the interim please wait whilst I Google Kat Stacks.
…
No I refuse to go to her Twitter page but Google Images reveal that she looks somewhat like a healthier version of Amy Winehouse with a slightly less problematic drug problem. So I'm assuming she's a groupie or something.
Where's that toaster…
Fabolous continued the insults, which Soulja Boy has finally replied to.
Although he deleted some of the more aggressive posts, on Tuesday September 7, Soulja Boy resumed his threats to Fabolous via Twitter.
"I will murder that ni**a fab in a freestyle battle he garbage compared to soulja boy," Soulja Boy tweeted today. "I tell you what Fabolous get yo weak ass on wax and spit them weak ass bars so I can s**t on you boy."
You know, Fabolous might not make the best albums out there and he might not be the biggest selling artist out there, but he sure as hell sold more copies (about 3 times as much actually) of his last album than Soulja Boy did. Not to mention that the above argument on sales is eternally moot but Fabolous would rape and pillage Soulja Boy's proverbial village in a freestyle battle. Fabolous' style is based around the punchline style which is in turn very similar to battle rapping so yeah, I'm not sure why or how Soulja Boy feels he has a chance, let alone the possibility to BEAT him in a freestyle battle. I blame the drugs.
Soulja Boy then called out Fabolous over his new mixtape There Is No Competition 2: The Grieving Music, which dropped last week.
"Fab is so mothafu**in lame he pick the wrong week to beef," Soulja Boy continued. "lets see how much his new "EP" sell 1st week. -_- garbage ass rapper."
Well EPs rarely sell much and if he thinks that by telling his follower's this he is somehow going to influence the end number, he is sorely mistaken. Why? Because anybody following Soulja Boy on Twitter is probably a deranged teenager who believes that "Crank That" is one of the greatest songs of all time, or clicked "Follow" whilst drunk. So I seriously doubt that a huge portion of Fabolous fans would follow Soulja Boy on Twitter and would be influenced by his posts.
Ice Cube's Tracklist Available
Due on September 28 I Am The West will be Cube's ninth studio solo album. Released on his own Lench Mob Recordings imprint, the controversially titled album is believed to contain 16 tracks, with appearances from longtime collaborator WC, and Jayo Felony. Additionally, Maylay will appear, who's previously worked with Blaq Poet, MC Eiht and DJ Premier.
I Am The West is said to assert Cube and his peers' place in west coast history, which has been commonly forgotten by artists and media frequently using the term "new west." The album is Cube's first since 2008's Raw Footage. "I Am The West" features a Sir Jinx/Ice Cube reunion, as well as production from Bangladesh and Cube's son, OMG.
Wait, Cube has a son who raps and calls himself OMG? Why the hell didn't Cube beat the crap out of him when he said "Yeah Dad, I'm going to rap under the name OMG" Unless there is some profound acronym involved I think it's a bloody stupid name to rap under. That being said, he might actually be a dope rapper so I won't pass judgment until I hear him on a track.
1. Soul On Ice [Prod. by Tha Bizness]
2. Life In California Ft. Jayo Felony & WC [Prod. by Sir Jinx]
This should be a really good track. I'm picturing an early-career sound for Cube here.
3. She Couldn't Make It On Her Own Ft. OMG & Doughboy [Prod. by Bangladesh]
4. Urbanian [Prod. by Track Bully]
5. Y'all Know How I Am Ft. OMG, Doughboy, WC & Maylay [Prod. by Willy Will]
6. Too West Coast Ft. WC & Maylay [Prod. by Hallway Productions]
No offence to Maylay, but a track with a title like this sounds like it would be better suited with an artist like Xzibit with a beat from Dr. Dre.
7. I Rep That West [Prod. by Jigg]
8. Drink The Kool-Aid [Prod. by Brandon Alexander]
9. No Country For Young Men [Prod. by Doughboy & Rocko]
Wait…this isn't Rocko as in the "Umma Do Me" dude is it?
10. It Is What It Is [Prod. by DJ Montay]
11. Hood Robbin' [Prod. by T. Mix]
12. Your Money Or Your Life [Prod. by T. Mix]
Tracks 11 and 12 sound like they're exactly the same kind of song…
13. Nothing Like L.A. [Prod. by The Fliptones]
14. All Day, Every Day [Prod. by Hallway Productions]
15. Fat Cat [Prod. by Jigg]
I have a fat dog.
Anyway, the album is shaping up to be pretty good, I'm kind of wishing there were a couple more higher profile West Coast artists appearing like Xzibit or Game and the lack of Dr. Dre is disappointing but I think it's safe to say that most people come to a Cube album for the lyricism and stay for the beats so chances are it's not going to be a disappointing album overall.
DMX Talks About Plies
I think you fix your mouth something like that
DMX made waves in Saint Louis over the weekend, during an appearance on Hot 104.1.
DMX appeared on the Young Dip's show and after Young Dip finished playing a song by Plies, DMX shared his opinion with the station's listeners.
While DMX co-signed T.I. as his favorite artists out right now, he blasted Plies.
"I don't even know who the worst is, but he has to be one of the worst," DMX said. "I mean 'Bruh Bruh?' Serious? that has to be one of the worst. How do you even fix your mouth to say that or spell that? I am looking at how it's spelled."
Remember when DMX was ranting about Barack Obama's name a few years ago? Seems that nobody really has the balls to say to him "Well what about ‘Dark Man X'?" mainly because most people believe that DMX is a crazy dude and would most likely stab you with a spork in retaliation.
But yeah, Plies couldn't even justify his own name and virtually every Plies track has to be an affront to the English language by rule anyway so moving on…
DMX then got serious and revealed a more positive side that could be featured on his upcoming album.
"On a serious note, what a lot of people don't understand, is that we as artists, are teachers. And if you teach people to spell like that and talk like that, then you dumber than the people you are supposed to be teaching."
Good point there and one that many people would agree with. If artists like Soulja Boy are seriously being labeled as role models (I have read as such somewhere) for the younger generation, then the younger generation is going to become habitual glue sniffers.
Another Guard Favored Lil Wayne In Prison?
That thing in the middle…is clearly not a candle
A guard on Rikers Island could face disciplinary action for allegedly giving Lil Wayne preferential treatment in the prison. An investigation has been launched over the alleged actions of Captain Latanya Brown, who is accused of spending extra time with Lil Wayne.
Additionally, the New York Post reports that Captain Brown allegedly allowed Wayne to stay in his cell, while other inmates were ordered out of their bunks and into the recreation yard.
The prison has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to showing favoritism towards any inmate. However, back in April, just one month after Wayne started his year-long sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a guard at the complex was fired for allegedly spying on Lil Wayne.
Amelia Negron was fired for glimpsing at Lil Wayne, although she denied the charges, claiming her union boss forced her to make a confession.
Why would you want to spy on Lil Wayne? The dude is one of the strangest looking people you will ever see so unless the guards have some kind of perverse fetish for people who look like aliens or perhaps some kind of new cacti, it's hard to explain why you would be staring at him.
Oh wait, it's probably because he's rich.
This is not the first time that a rapper has caused problems on Rikers Island. In June of 2009, it was revealed that Foxy Brown allegedly received preferential treatment during her 9-month stay on Rikers Island in 2006. Brown held a photo shoot and allegedly received unlimited phone/TV use, makeup, luxury clothing and outside meals.
In October of 2009, Correction Chief Peter Curcio and a Rabbi named Leib Glanz resigned over the scandal, after the Brown reports, in addition to allegations that Rabbi Glanz arranged a lavish bar mitzvah for an inmate's son.
Foxy Brown manages to cause a ruckus wherever she is though. Maybe put her someplace where there is no sound, like in space and she might be better behaved.
ICP Defend Their Fans
The Insane Clown Posse - consisting of Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, recently sat down with MTV News to discuss the highly-publicized injury Method Man sustained during the 11th annual Gathering of the Juggalos, an event organized by ICP.
Violent J expressed regret for the incident, but made it clear that it did not represent them or the majority of the fans attending the event. "What happened to Method Man — that shouldn't even be discussed, because that was one asshole out of fifteen thousand," explained Violent J. "One dickhead threw something, and by chance, it hit [Method Man] in the face. But he wasn't speaking for Juggalos or for ICP or the Gathering. And they weren't getting bombed up there — it was one asshole."
You know when you call yourself VIOLENT J, it's really not sending a good message to the public. Much like C-Murder, it's not very wise to name yourself after some kind of aggressive behavior.
"We've got nothing but love for Method Man and Redman, and we've talked to them since then. We talked to them that night and we talked to him just the other day," J told MTV News. "And if we had caught the kid who threw that, he'd a got it."
Violent J added that "sometimes things get twisted," perhaps referring to false reports that Method Man said he was going to sue ICP.
The thing is though, from the reports we have heard, it really wasn't just ONE person, there was at least a group of them throwing actual shit at Tila Tequila so it's probably safe to assume that there was more than one of them throwing stuff at Method Man too. Alcohol does stupid things to people, it's a well televised fact and the only reason that he didn't sustain more injuries is probably because the rest of the group had either run out of ammunition once Tila left the stage, or because they were all too drunk to aim properly and one guy got lucky, or unlucky I suppose. The problem for the other ICP fans though is that they're being labeled along with the idiots who throw shit which is unfair.
The Musical Outro
Jim Jones – "We Fly High [Remix]" from the album A Dipset Xmas
Yeah, there was no way I wasn't going to finish up with this song. It's a stupid song and to be honest there is some strange shit going on between Santana and Jones throughout the clip, but you're going to have the hook in your head all day now.
Nope, it really was just one dude that threw shxt at Method Man. I've seen the footage. Juggalos actually like Method and Red, but despise Tila. That's why she got bombed.

Alright I am now convinced that Soulja Boy was put on this earth simply to amuse God. I mean Soulja Boy vs. Fabolus?
To be honest any time I think of Soulja Boy rapping I think of that old video game Pa-rappa- the rapper.
"kick...kick, kick
punch...punch, kick"
Well his lyrics ARE that simple.
On Method Man:
Well at least he knows not to perform in front of white trash any more.
As you probably forgetten, I hate Plies. So when DMX dissed his ass, I couldn't help but agree.
Even though DMX has been in and out of jail more times then we can count. Is probably high off coke as we speak and will probably be arrested 30 more times this year, he is indeed a good rapper.
Plies on the other hand sounds like a monkey with a root canal. You can barley understand him and don't want to know what he has to say anyway
Raw Footage was the shit so I think I Am the West will be great. The only thing missing are a few hooks from Nate Dogg. By the way, how is Nate doing these days?
And it only has 4 feautres. That's a feat these days.

If you check out the archives on Dubcnn.com, you'll find out that he's not doing well at all. That second stroke really did him in. He can only communicate with his eyes right now (blinking and such).

Anything that encourages violence against Perez Hilton, I'm for.
Women in any correctional facility for men is a bad idea.

Plies is a joke, up there with Soulja boy. Both would be in my top 5 WORST rappers right now. Good for DMX who at least at one point was relevant to the hip-hop industry and is still a decent rapper.
I'm not Fab's biggest fan or anything but he would destroy Soulja boy in a freestyle battle. Not that it's too difficult to that anyway.

Mainstream American hip-hop is just... just terrible. That fact that Soulja Boy can challenge anyone to a battle... even, fucken, i dont know, FOX news should be informing America just so every member of your population could laugh at him. Fuck I would toss the mic to my disabled brother and watch him deliver a soulja boy verbal beatdown. Seriously, stop giving this man news. Sometimes I like to look his shit up on youtube, see how many more nails he has driven into hip hops coffin. Now im Australian, i listen to Aussie hip-hop, which is very much like Hip-Hops genesis in the US insofar as its not commercial yet, theirs no money in it at all, so the MCs are actually dedicated, and, you know, good. So after hearing a quality Hilltop Hood or Funkoar track, hearing the Soulja Boy track I did last night made my soul cry. The song was called yaaaaahhhhh. literally. He said 'yah trick yah' alot, and the hook consisted of 'get out my face'. I nearly started crying. HOW THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT ACCEPTABLE!!!!! Soulja Boy and his mate Ayrab need to fucking die. Now. Your Americans, you have guns, do something about it. Cultural destruction is a crime and this little wanker is killing hip hop. yah trick.
