News and thoughts on Drake getting called out by Common, R. Kelly looking to add more chapters to "Trapped in the Closet," The Weeknd dropping a new mixtape and more!
It's Thursday everyone! That means we're officially three days away from Christmas! Your shopping days are coming down to a wire, so make sure we get it done ASAP! Now lately, there's been a lot of hype going on about our award ceremony so my submissions are in, and I hope you think they're ; acceptable. I'm looking forward to the event next week as Tony says there's some surprises. Also, theres a lot of things that have been going on in the hip hop world that I can't wait to tell you about in my section below, so stay tuned! Lastly, don't forget to vote for who you think should be included in our awards! Here are the categories:
Album of the Year
Song of the Year
Artist of the Year
Rookie of the Year
Douche of the Year
Hip Hop Hottie of the Year
Throwback Track of the Year
Interview of the Year
As we near the end of the year, I find myself doing more work for the end of the year awards column than working on the current week, and for that I apologize. Another relatively short week here as there really wasn't much news to cover and two of the three member team here is sick. Nonetheless, I was able to open up my ol chest of Christmas stories and found this gem for everyone! This is dedicated to you and yours.
Twas a few nights before Christmas and all through the halls
411mania.com was taken by the balls
The stockings were hung by the Charlie Brown Tree
Jeremy Thomas in the back, singing along with Glee
The readers were nestled all snug in their Beats
Awaiting the imminent Detox release
With Hope in her Wu Swag and me in my skull cap
We planned a night out to see what's on tap
When out on the porch arose such a laughter!
I sprang from my bean bag to see what was the matter
Away to the window I trudged like a sloth!
Yes I move slow, just like a BOSS!
Much to my joy, Walter Reyes was right there!
With a Douche of the Week he just had to share!
And Box and TheR had a wrapped Christmas bong
While SS87 sang a new Christmas song
It's Thursday night, fellas, The Low End Theory is here
With a Merry Christmas to all, and to all a New Year!!
Video of the Week The Motto - Drake Ft. Lil Wayne and Tyga
Wayne, what the fuck you wearin? And why you got yo momma in the begining of a song where you talkin bout skeet skeetin?
- As reported earlier this year,Young Buck filed for bankruptcy. It appears that he "no longer has a shot at reorganizing." Earlier reports claim that 50 Cent said the same thing, only with a smile, while talking into a money phone.
-Tyler, the Creator and The Game have put out a music video to their collaboration, Martians vs. Goblins where The Game has way too much fun playing a Knott's Scary Farm ghoul and Tyler has way too much fun playing with a cat...
- R. Kelly has recently come out (the closet?) to say that he has 32 more chapters of his song "Trapped in the Closet." Wasn't there a priest, a midget and some semblance of homosexuality in the last one? What more ground does he want to cover?
Common Thinks Drake is "Sweet"
In a story that I touched on before, Common took to the airwaves to say that if Drake feels he is to blame for the motivation behind the track titled "Sweet," then so be it. More recently, he has come out to say that it was Drake who he was referring to and if Drake wants to get in the ring, then so be it. While I think beefs in the rap game are somewhat retarded, there are always some gems to be found within the dirt and if anyone can bring Drake out of his sissy soft shit, then maybe it's Common. People think that my disdain for Drake comes from his crooning solely, or from the fact that I don't find him talented. On the contrary, I feel that the guy's got a lot of talent, is a good looking dude, and has skills...he just doesn't use them and instead, progresses towards weak and lazy lyricism. I highly doubt he's going to do anything in retaliation to Common, but if he does it may very well be for the best, considering the man has skills. In terms of choosing a winner, we know that Common has the vet stance, but Drake...well, he's got his fans. As far as the validity of his statements, I feel Common actually has some grounds here. Drake comes out and says he is the best at this rap game, and Common takes offense. It's very simple and very effective. It makes sense and the way he likens it, to Jay and Nas essentially coming off of who was best. Now don't mistake that for me calling Common and Drake the next Nas and Jay, far from it, but if this is the sole reason behind beef then I'd much rather have that than some sort of gang warfare.
J. Cole Prepared For the Worst
In a recent interview about his Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, Cole said, "I wasn't thinking people had seen what I had done, so I had already kind of prepared myself for the letdown. But it caught me off guard. It would be incredible to win. That's an understatement … since I didn't even expect to get nominated. But I'm not walking in there with the attitude that I'm the guy. But if I won, I'd know why. And if I didn't win, I'd understand." Ah Cole, ever the humble being. While I don't see why he wouldn't see it coming (after an album like his, I'd damn near expect it), I can appreciate his humbleness. This final half of the year belonged to Cole. I've talked way too much about the guy (and will in the coming week, stay tuned for the staff picks of 2011) so I'll cut it short here, but congrats again to J. Cole.
Douche of the Week:
The Cold Virus - Tony Acero
Your regularly scheduled (and admittedly, more funny) host of Douche of the Week has been attacked by a feind of health. This very villain, I have been contesting for the better part of December and am still trying to shake free of its grasp! It appears that not only myself and Hope have tasted the bitter pain of the dreaded Cold virus, as it has attacked our good friend and Low End Theory mainstay, Walter Reyes! He was all primped and ready to talk about a magazine calling Rihanna a "Niggabitch" or even pointing out R. Kelly's idiocy for thinking that people want to hear 32 new chapters of "Trapped in the Closet" but unfortunately, the cold virus slapped the shit out of him, knocking him off his feet and in the fetal position near his dog. Oh, and that's not an insult, because it was only a week ago when I was rocking back in forth in my bed, yelling for my teddy and my mommy. Oh yes, The Cold has beaten us like a rotten step child who causes nothing but problems and that alone deserves the Douche spot. True, true, I could have pointed at The Game for stopping a concert because a fan(?) threw a water bottle at him while he was performing, but you've read one Game Douche story, you've read em all, right? Well, with this being the last Douche of the Week of the Year, I figured to at the very least give you all something to read aside from another "see you next week" message.
I've decided to not have an official Hip Hop Hottie till the beginning of next year, so as to not mess with the current nominations. But as a nice little preview, I want to introduce you all to Bree Garner out of Denver, CO! She'll be our first lovely lady up next year and with reason!
Alright everyone! Today is gonna be short, BUT DEFINITELY SWEET. Last week, three artists I enjoy very much released some new tracks...one album, one mixtape. The first makes me completely GEEKED.
1.Blu & Exile: Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them.
Totally unmixed/unmastered, dedicated to their grandmothers. My favorite dynamic duo is back!!!! You already know what time it is!
2. The Weeknd: Echoes of Silence Yes, he's back. And better than ever. Sultry sounds make me wanna fall in love with a nigga like him. <-- (Thursday reference.)
Funny thing about "Sweet" is, Common only made that song in general, and Drake took offense cause he felt it was really intended for him. At least that exposes that Drake knows he is softer than Charmin. I didn't see anyone else take offense to that.
