Welcome one and all to the Hip Hop Herald. The column will deal with anything related to hip hop whether it be underground, mainstream, or the new-age pop infused rap (you know the stuff Timberlake and Timbaland make). We will cover news, opinions, release dates as well as feature some music and of course videos.
Be for we start, be sure to check out some of our exclusive interviews as well as follow me on Twitter.
We are back to our regularly scheduled column this week, however it will be a shorter column due to time constraints as well as the fact that there is not a lot of news happening right now. Let's get to it
Music Intro
This week's music intro comes courtesy of Saigon, who released the first video off his new mixtape produced entirely by Just Blaze. Saigon had the best hip hop album of the year last year, and loos to continue with the momentum. Check out the track
News
Birdman to Release New Album
Birdman has announced the release of an upcoming album Like Father, Like Son 2: Tha Last Mob, set to release through Cash Money. No real information has been given on the album, which is the follow up to his 2006 collaboration Like Father, Like Son with Lil Wayne.
Birdman stated:
"We're looking to do that in December some time, after we all drop our solos albums and go on tour," explained Birdman. "We have a lot of songs we did before (Wayne) went (to jail), and we've been working since he came home. All we've got to do is pick. And Wayne likes to be fresh with our music, so we might wait... and just knock out 20 songs right quick and put those on the album."
Wayne seems to have a lot on his plate lately and he should really be concerned with burning people out on his music. With sequels to both Rebirth and I Am Not A Human Being planned, it may be too much Wayne for fans to take in.
Obie Trice Talks New Album
Once Slim Shady's right hand man, Obie Trice has dropped some information on his upcoming album Bottom's Up. The album is slated to feature multiple songs with Eminem, as well as both Em and Dre take up production duties on the LP.
Obie stated:
"It could be more [than two Eminem-featured songs]," said Obie, naming "No Turning Back" as one of the tracks. "I think it's a great album. [ ] I'm older, I'm real excited."
Obie will release Bottoms Up on his own imprint Black Market Entertainment on February 28th.
I always liked Obie Trice and thought that he was totally underrated as emcee when he was part of Shady records. It will be interesting to see how he is able to do, both in terms of sales as well as album quality with his new record.
Lil Wayne To Release Prison Memoirs
Lil Wayne has broken the news of his first memoir, Gone Till November, releasing November 28, 2012. Gone Till November, which will be published through Grand Central Publishing, is based on diary entries written during Wayne's eight-month bid at New York's Rikers Island in 2010.
"They are revealing," said Grand Central editor Ben Greenberg of the book, described as an "internal monologue."
I think that this could be an interesting read, but again Wayne needs to be cautious of becoming overexposed. He was gone for a while last year, and I think this actually helped him in terms of popularity when he finally returned and released Tha Carter IV. More artists need learn that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Eminem is really the master of this as he will disappear for months or even years between albums, only appearing on some random guest spots. Then when he drops his next album, fans are itching for some new Eminem and he always seems to stay popular.

I'm still trying to get back into hip hop and have even enjoyed Commons album and Lupe's mixtape which I recently heard but I am still apathetic to rap right now. I have heard great things about the new roots album but cant seem to get myself to listen to it. I still need to hear albums from Saigon from last year but damn I just don't care right now. Its all boring to me. I've never been in a hip hop slump for so long.
It feels like I'm growing up ahd the music isn't ad I'm only in my 20s smh
