News on Lil Wayne's next album getting a release date, Kid Cudi causing a mini-riot in Australia, Lil B trashing fake rappers, Birdman betting half a million dollars on the Super Bowl and more!
Happy Theory Thursday everyone! As you all know, Tony and I are back again to satisfy your hip hop demands! I hope 2012 is treatin you right because come December well all be gone! Ha! Not really, but I hope everything is going well on your end! As for me, life is absolutely amazing. Getting back on the grown woman grind, and enjoying a winter full of sunny days and warm weather..Only in Cali! Today I've got a special guest in our silent weapons & quiet wars section so keep reading! Any who, we've got a lot to cover this week so I'll let Tony go ahead & do his thang!
As we approach our One Year Anniversary, I continue to think of how to make that particular column special. Some ideas are great (A Video blog of myself and Hope, an all Eminem dedication column, a reader filled lovefest) while some may very well spell the end of the column (A Wes Kirk interview, An All Odd Future Column, a poem written in Mark Twain's dialect ala Tom Sawyer). While I'm still searching for ideas, I wanted to ask you readers if there's anything you'd like to see both in the future as well as the upcoming One Year Column. Let it ruminate in your mind and get back to me. Now then, this week we've got news but I've always felt like that was more of a mandatory obligation than the true bread and butter of The Low End Theory. I wanted to talk a bit about my goals here in this column, both for those who are new as well as long time readers. Essentially, my goal has many substances, but there is a particular one, and that is to help people. Coming from the Los Angeles area means I have a lot of friends that are trying to be famous. Some deserve it, and I'm just waiting for them to blow up, while others are doing their damndest to try and make it. I've got model friends and rapper friends that are looking for a small push as well as new ears. I have writer friends that are looking for a new outlet. I remember my start here at 411mania.com and it was given to me by the great Steve Gustafson. I reached out to him for an opportunity to write within his column. He asked me for a sample, and he ran that sample the same week. It was there were I honed my craft until I noticed the void of hip hop news and focus in the music section. Essentially, guys, what I'm saying is that if it wasn't for Steve, I truly wouldn't be here, giving you hip hop insight for nearly a year.
With that being said, I want to touch on the numerous guest stars, interviews, and hip hop hotties that I have on an almost weekly basis. The interviews are important to me, because I trust in each one of these artists and want their mindset being in a hungry game that eats people up and spits them out with no remorse. The Hip Hop Hotties, (aside from being wonderfully beautiful) are there because I know them and love them and respect each of them. The guest spots, the little blurbs that people notice are there because I find these people worthy of your eyes and important enough to read. One thing I will promise you, however, is that I will always be the main attraction. I will always have the most input. My addition of Walter Reyes and Hope isn't because I'm lazy, it's because they bring something to the table that I am just unable to. Hope knows more about Underground Hip Hop than I would ever care to learn, and Walter is just a funny ass mofo.
I know this was a lot to read, but I want everyone to understand something; hip hop is important to me, and so is this column. We do this weekly, without fail, and have yet to miss a column. I don't do this for me or even for you, readers, but for the love of music and for the love of Hip Hop as a whole. It's a culture that I care for so much, a culture that - even through its many reincarnations - has never lost its essence, and a culture that continues to keep me motivated outside of this column and in my every day life. This is what The Low End Theory is about, and that will never change.
Video of the Week
I'm On - Trae Tha Truth ft. MDMA, Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, Wale and Wiz Khalifa
- Lil Wayne is set to release I Am Not A Human Being in Summer of 2012. The nearer it gets to that release date, the more I believe the title of the album.
-Nicki Minaj's music video for "Stupid Hoe" has broken records. Not for highest ever first day views as you would believe, but rather, for the most idiotic and nonsensical make-up jobs ever known in a music video.
-Battling a bout of food poisoning, DMX, was submitted to a hospital immediately after a fight. As many people have said, do not eat any type of seafood on a plane...even if her name is Rebecca...
Kid Cudi Blows Up Down Under
In a concert that recently went down in Australia, Kid Cudi reportedly went cray cray on stage in an outburst of anger and rage. From dropping down lights to just actin a foo, Cudi decided that there was just cause to blow up on stage, in front of a crowd. My immediate reaction was that Cudi was out of line and nothing that could have happened coud cause this madness. After reading the news report, I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong, I didn't immediately side with the guy. But, his reasoning seems sound, at least in his mind. Apparently, the show was a disaster, and after Cudi was sold as the headliner, the fans expected a great show. Nearly 20 minutes into his set, the promoters cut the show and left the fans in a frenzy. Cudi found this extremely disrespectful and decided to destroy the set. So much, in fact, that he warned future promoters, "If my set is EVER cut short at any show, im trashing the stage. Not out of anger, it takes a lot to get me furious nowadays, but out of principle. The fans always deserve a full set at all shows, especially when they spend their hard earned money on expensive tickets. A lot of artist wouldn't do what I did in Australia, but I will. Spread the word. No matter the circumstance, cut my set short, im breaking shit. And next time im startin a riot. Me and my fans. Cause promoters will sometime take advantage of the artists, and u gotta let em know what time it is. Cutting nobody any slack." Now, I'm still not 100% sold on his necessity to cause destruction, as I am a peaceful being and feel there were alternate routes (true, I may not be able to think of any at the time, but still...). Either way, Cudi spoke out, and he did it for his fans. There's really nothing more special than an artist speaking out for the people that enjoy his work on a day to day basis, but what do you think?
Your Turn: Do You Think Kid Cudi Overreacted?
Lil B Lambasts "Fake" Rappers
In one of the most humorous stories that I have read all week, Lil B has gone on record to say, "I've taken rap 100 percent seriously for so long, that I see it now, it's a joke to me now because a lot of the rap artists that are in it, they're not truly authentic. How I feel about authentic is that my whole past is there. Anything I talk about, you can just check up. So when it comes down to am I, and do I think rap's a joke and I'm having fun? I'm not going to lie. Right now, it is a joke because my life has been so real. Life is so real, bro. I almost lost my life numerous times, like in the streets and everything." Lil B, I am sure I am not the first to tell you this, but shut the fuck up. I am so sick of he and his little group of cronies thinking they are any different from any and all other young up and comers in the rap game. From calling technology stupid, to naming his album "I'm Gay," he is one of the unsignificant and untruthful MC's (if you could even call him that) out there. I know what the naysayers will retort with, that he's using the game, that he's proving to be the very essence of fake to prove a point, that he's pointing at all of us as the losers because he is winning, but the reality of it is, I see NO talent in this guy, not even as a jester in the hip hop game. IF he is trying to make a statment at the stagnancy of hip hop, he has yet to do so. If the music that he has thus far portrayed is his actual talent, then he has none. Listen to ANY ONE of his tracks...seriously, youtube the guy...I'll wait. NO TALENT. NONE! He is, essentially, speaking behind a microphone while a subpar beat plays. His song with Lil Wayne was HORRIBLE...I cannot stress that enough. Lil B, please, before you point out "fake rappers," I emplore you to look into the mirror. And if you ARE trying to prove a point, make it known before your 15 minutes are up.
Obie Trice Releases Track Listing
Obie has released the tracklisting for his upcoming Third studio album, Bottom's Up and it has at least one track with the greatest rapper alive. Tracklist is as follows:
01 Bottoms Up (Intro)
02 Going No Where
03 Dear Lord
04 I Pretend
05 Richard f. Eminem (prod. Dr. Dre)
06 BME Up
07 Battle Cry f. Adrian Reeza
08 Secrets
09 Spill My Drink
10 Spend The Day f. Dre Skidne
11 Petty
12 My Time
13 Ups And Downs
14 Hell Yeah
15 Crazy f. MC Breed
16 LeBron On [Bonus]
I happen to think that Obie Trice is one of the most underrated MC's out there. His first album had tracks that had meaning, depth and a whole lot of introspective work. I truly am excited for his upcoming album. If you recall, we almost lost Obie in a shooting, and I am hoping that some of that near-death experience comes in the new album.
CT @CTzGlam When I'm not listening to hip-hop, I'm styling hair. You can follow me at @HairStylist_CT
Recently, I was approached with a request for the hip hop hotties. I had a friend and long time reader say to me, "Dawg, you always have some beautiful girls, but what about the booty? I mean...you ain't givin it no love!" With that in mind, I looked far and wide for some booty, and nothing but. I really didn't have to look far, due to my friend Courtney. With an ass like no other, and a humor to boot, Lil Miss Courtney has cheeks for weeks. I recall first meeting her at a birthday party through a mutual friend. She actually enticed a group of kids to water balloon me. As I was sitting there, none the wiser, I was bombarded by a group of kids coming in with a barrage of balloons, attacking me and my new pants. Due to that, I felt she owed me and would sooner or later cash in. Well, kids, today is the day that I cash in, and rightfully so. Aside from having a killer smile and a "don't fuck with me" attitude, her ass is...well, see for yourself.
Simply put, this girl is beautiful in more ways than one. Be sure to visit the website below on the pictures to see more of CT.
Last summer, I took place in a "Girls With Curls" photo shoot with two friends of mine. I told you to remember their names, because they'd be doing big things didn't I? well, as we know Mr. Rácz made his way out to the big apple..but the man behind the plan, Brian Page (our photographer) stayed out in Cali to pursue goals of his own..like making music, and what better music to make than hip hop! A couple of days ago, he released his first EP titled "Loose Leaves" and I barely got the chance to listen to it today. Boy, was I missing out. For being one of his first creations, I seriously see this as an experienced masterpiece. I've always known he had lyrical talent but never was granted an opportunity to hear it & when I did..pure nirvana. Now don't think I'm only hyping him up because he's a friend of mine, because I rarely ever involve myself in any of my friends musical talent. His work is actually unique..and like I told him..he had me fooled on some tracks (i.e. track 2) ..because he sounded like mix of eligh/scarub from living legends..maybe even a little of someone from hiero..I can't even pinpoint it, but I do know that it's AMAZING! ha! See, it's just that good. A wonderful photographer, a clever lyricist...shit, you ain't artsier than him!
So now I present to you..Sir BRIAN PAGE! Applaud, applaud!
just one thing.. it's not a sophomore album, it's his third major release (cheers, second rounds on me, bottoms up)

Definitely agree with you about Obie Trice. Severely underrated (along with Stat Quo).
Lil' B is garbage, and needs to be hit by a bus.

Hope knows more about Underground Hip Hop than I would ever care to learn,
^^^ reason why I dig low end. That's 110% networth! Love the truth.
Lil b is not nice but I dig his mind, he does what he feels and carved out his own lane. Who I can't stand are the fans who say he's the best mc in the game now. That's absurd and those fans need their tits pinched real hard or kicked in the nuts with steel toe cowboy boots. Nothing wrong with having a current favorite but think before you proclaim someone to be the best.
CT can definitely catwalk! "From the front to the back it's TNA Impact!"
If anything I'd love to hear about some older groups like boogie monsters, and if you and hope could mention some 90's songs that y'all really liked or inspired y'all yell™

Doesnt matter if Kid Cudi overreacted, he's overrated. Matter of fact, Lil B is overrated.
Pic of your homegirl Courtney reminds of Darlene on the cover of Ice-T's album "Power".
Obie Trice has some cool rap skills but his production hasnt always been up to par with him. I did see he had a track with MCBreed, is that the greatest rapper alive you where referring to? Maybe its Adrian Reeza? If not then I dont know who you're talking about.

Kid cudi did the right thing!
His music means a lot to alot of people, including myself. I've seen him live twice and his shows are amazing!!!! And he is not overrated, he has a massive fan base!!!! He's one of a kind, no one puts out music like he does.
