411 Music Fact or Fiction 06.15.12: Snoop Dogg Fights A Kangaroo
Posted by Joseph Lee on 06.15.2012
Is Green Day's plan to release three albums at a time a bad idea? Should Will Smith return to rapping? Was Chris Brown's latest music video enjoyable? 411's Stewart Lange and Nick Krenn debate these topics and more in this week's 411 Fact or Fiction: Music!
Welcome to another edition of Fact or Fiction: Music. I'm your host, Joseph Lee.
This week it's Stewart Lange going up against Nick Krenn.
Hopefully. I think it's a stupid, pretentious idea and with any luck, and vote with their wallets. They won't though, people will buy it and Billie-Jo will continue his metamorphosis into the new Bono. Except he doesn't pretend to help people, he's just up his own ass.
Nick Krenn: FACT.
I'm only saying FACT because Green Day do not provide enough variety in their music to make it successful. They're not a constantly changing indie/alternative band. They have one sound -- anthem heavy punk pop. After awhile, the albums will run together, and fans will wonder why they didn't just shorten all three albums down to only the good songs. It is nice to see Green Day trying something different though.
As long as nobody inflicts it on me. Or that is sounds anything like "Whip Your Hair Back" by his untalented daughter. So really, the answer for this should really be fiction, not I'm thinking about it. Still, actually don't mind if he releases new material, I just don't care if he does.
Nick Krenn: FICTION.
Will Smith doesn't have to cuss in his rap to sell records. Well I do. So fuck him and fuck you too. No, I don't really want any new rap music from Will Smith. The nostalgia factor is dead, and I associate him more with acting now than as a credible musician. I actually had to remind friends that he did a "Men In Black" rap song for the soundtrack of the first movie, and they could barely remember it. That's how much of an effect that a Will Smith rap song has on listeners.
No, because deep, deep down, I believe she's still bat-shit mental. I had to read a little into this story and I'll admit I'm not 100% on the details but I am certain that once someone puts their faith an an "all-there" Britney, that's when we'll see something a bit crazy from her.
Nick Krenn: FACT.
What is Britney, like 30 or 31? I would hope that she's mature enough to make well thought decisions now, and it seems like she is, due to her lack of interesting topics to appear in the Music 3R's (Saturdays on 411mania). Now, Rihanna; she could use a conservatorship.
idn't watch it; didn't give it the time of day. Chris Brown has managed to brainwash his way back into the hearts of many listeners. Sorry, but I can't respect a guy that can only beat up one woman. He's nowhere near Andy Kaufman's level...yet.
Stewart Lange: FICTION.
For the simple fact I haven't and won't watch it. Chris Brown is a twat and I'm much happier not listening to him, or seeing him. Sorry for the abridged answer folks.
I say this, but I don't know if it would be any good or what kind of approach both musicians would take. Their duet would be interesting though.
Stewart Lange: FICTION.
But I'm only saying this because of the wording of the question. I wouldn't say I'd "love" to see them join forces, but I'd be interested to hear the result of it. While I'm not bothered for anything recent from either artist (OK Computer for Yorke and Elephant for White) I think this might work well. As long as they reign in one another's "weirdness" this might work out okay.
Does he puff a blunt and blow weed smoke in the fighters' faces? That would be hilarious fifteen years ago! I'll tell you how this would be a fun idea: if Snoop Dogg got tagged in and all he could throw is sissy bitch slaps, allowing all of the Tekken characters to maul him into oblivion. Tell Snoop Dogg that he missed his chance at fighting games when Def Jam Vendetta fell off the face of the planet.
Stewart Lange: FACT.
It is, but only by virtue of it being totally ridiculous. I'm all for Bonus characters in fighting games, it makes for a fun unlockable and all, but come on, Snoop Dogg? In what way is he relevant? It'd be fine if it would maybe lead to a "Death Row DLC" or something, but having Snoop Dogg taking on Yoshimitsu? Bit random.
Score Card: 2 for 6
