Hip Hop Herald 12.26.12: Christmas Edition - Top Four 2013 Wishes!
Posted by Bill Wannop on 12.26.2012
From a new Eminem album and Dr. Dre finally releasing Detox to the end of "radio rappers" like 2 Chainz and more, 411's Bill Wannop lists the top 4 Christmas wishes he has for hip-hop in 2013!
Welcome one and all to the Hip Hop Herald. The column will deal with anything related to hip hop whether it be underground, mainstream, or the new-age pop infused rap (you know the stuff Timberlake and Timbaland make). We will cover news, opinions, release dates as well as feature some music and of course videos.
Be for we start, be sure to check out some of our exclusive interviews as well as follow me on Twitter.
This week we will have a very special, shortened Christmas Edition where we list our top 4 hip hop wishes for 2013. Let us know your top hip hop wishes for 2013 in the comments.
First we will start off with a Christmas inspired Music intro:
This is a classic Christmas track by none other then Ludacris titled "Ludacrismas".
Top 4 Christmas Wishes For 2013 New Eminem Album
Love him or hate him, whenever Eminem drops an album, the whole music industry seems to be buzzing. This year will likely be no different as Eminem has dropped rumors of his new album being released this year. His last album was the return to form of the Eminem that everyone knows and loves, so hopefully he continues along that way and leaves the accents far and away from the recording studio.
Dr. Dre Releasing Detox
The start and stop and constant delays of Detox were funny at first, but now after many many years it is starting to just get annoying. If you thought that there was no way that Dre could live up to the Detox hype before, then he has no chance at all now. Supposed singles have dropped, and they have all been popular and well received. Yet no album. Everyone from 50 Cent, Eminem, to Lil Wayne have said they have recorded tracks for the album. Yet no album.
Hopefully somebody forces Dre to release this album, whether by hook or crook and hopefully it is the album that everyone has been waiting for
There are some reunions that I hope will happen in 2013 and the first on the top of the list would be for Outkast to reunite and release another album. Big Boi has released two great solo albums, while Andre 3000 has been somewhat dormant, dropping guest spots here and there. While the group has not talked or have not planned to record together anytime soon, both members claim there is no beef between them. That means the door is wide open for a return, and is something that all of hip hop has been waiting for.
The other reunion that I would love to see would be from A Tribe Called Quest, who have been rumored for the last couple years to be working on a new album. The group has had a couple tours off and on during the last couple years, so it is likely that they have at least thought about recording another album together. Whether this happens this year or a couple years in the future, A Tribe Called Quest is one of the pioneers and true legends of hip hop, so another album would be a welcome addition to their discography.
Death of Radio Rappers
This is somewhat of a far fetched wish, but I wish for the return of real rap to the radio. The last couple years has seen a ton of so called rappers getting much heralded accolades and success on the radio, when in reality they do not possess much skill at all in terms of rapping. Prime examples would be 2 Chainz being nominated for a Grammy award for hip hop album of the year. Other examples include the success of Chief Keef, as well as ASAP Rocky. Lets have real rappers be embraced by the radio. Artists like Slaughterhouse, Atmosphere and Kendrik Lamar.
