News and thoughts on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West having a baby, Psy retiring "Gangnam Style," Adam Lambert slamming Les Miserables, a paparazzo being killed while taking pictures of Justin Bieber's car and more!
Hi Everyone! Welcome to The Love/Hate News Report. In this column, I will give you my important, but humble opinion on six news items from the music scene that I think may or may not change the world.
I just wanted to quickly introduce myself and say that I'm excited to be taking over this column for John Downey. Some quick facts about me: My name is Gina, I'm in my mid-twenties, and I am a born and bred Jersey girl, but I'm definitely more Springsteen than Snooki.
Don't forget to read the "What I'm Listening To" section at the end of the column each week. Happy reading!
Let's get started…
Tweens Freak After Seeing "Haylor" Kiss at Midnight
Taylor Swift and One Direction's Harry Styles, or "Haylor" if you'd like to call them by their official celebrity couple name, were caught smooching this New Year's Eve as the ball dropped to mark the beginning of 2013. That information is surprisingly not the disturbing part of this story, it's the reactions from the die-hard Harry Styles fans out there that make my stomach turn. Girls took to their computers and virtually cried through their Tumblr accounts after watching the two pop stars kiss on live television, or perhaps after watching the video that's been circulating around the internet for the past few days. From the blog posts I've read it's obvious that these girls are heartbroken over the fact that Styles has a girlfriend now. I'm guessing that these girls are so upset because now they can't play their fantasies about being with Styles in their heads without Swift popping in there as well. She's basically ruined their lives (I used to be an *Nsync fan, I know about these things). But even though I was once a teenybopper who had boy bands plastered all over my bedroom walls, I never felt like I was going to die without being with Justin Timberlake. I would have loved that, but I knew it was never going to happen and accepted it. I know One Direction has an unbelievable fan following, but my God, get a grip kids. The love and adoration for this group has gotten out of control. It actually saddens me that these girls seem so tortured by Haylor, and I'm legitimately worried about them; one said she was going to go light herself on fire. Not being able to make out with a rich, hot British dude sucks, but damn! I've posted some blog entries below so you can see for yourself. I don't even know what to say about the first one.
I heard you've shared a kiss with Harry Styles and dating him as well. Well, congratulations. You just achieved what could probably be the most incredible thing every Harry girl dreamt of her whole life. You stole his heart and he stole yours, don't waste it. Imagine how many Harry girls would want to be in your position right now. He'd rather spend time with you than tweet us. Please don't break his heart and have inspiration to write another song. I've always looked up to you growing up, but after finding out what most of your songs were about, it broke me and now Harry is your new boyfriend, please don't treat him in a song of trash like the rest. Not only will it hurt me, it will hurt Harry girls because I am one. On the day you plan to break up, put in mind how many Directioners will be broken just seeing one of the people they look up to is hurt. If you both decide to be forever, I'll respect it. If you both get married, I'll be there to spread a smile. If you get pregnant and have his child, I'll learn to love him/her if that's what Harry and you want. I'm speaking for all those Directioners who've learned to love and respect the most bittersweet of things like this. My final words: love is fragile. Be careful not to break his heart because it will break me too.
Just watched the kiss video and omg I'm sobbing right now they kissed forever and then hugged forever and kept going back to hugging and he was rubbing her back and I'm pretty sure he said "it's alright" because I think a fan shouted something mean and oh my god tears no I hate haylor no make it stop he actually likes her HE ACTUALLY LIKES HER
I just saw the video of the Haylor kiss on New Years and I actually broke down into
but but…can you imagine Louis waking up from his party last night and seeing that haylor kissing picture and he slowly slides down the wall and when he gets to the floor he curls up because not only is he losing his best friend he's lost his love…and im lighting myself on fire
They should have some sort of crisis hotline set up for One Direction fans…
"Kimye" Are Having a Baby!
I just realized that my first two news items involve celebrity couple names; look Ma, I'm a real journalist! I don't really have a lot to say about this except, good for them! I think it's great, and honestly it's really no one's business (even though they shove it in our faces every minute and now I'm shoving it in yours). I'm not a huge Kim Kardashian fan, but I do love Kanye's music. We all know that their baby is going to be a millionaire fresh out of the womb and now I feel bad about myself because I'm officially jealous of an unborn child. There's not much to this story, but let's face it, it's always exciting to the world when two famous people procreate.
Paparazzo Dies After Trying to Get a Photograph of Justin Bieber
A Paparazzo died on Tuesday after getting hit by a car while walking across a Freeway in Los Angeles after snapping photographs of Justin Bieber's Ferrari. The car was in fact Bieber's, but Bieber himself wasn't even in the car like the Paparazzo. While I hate the idea of the paparazzi, my heart goes out to the man and his family. He didn't even get the photograph he wanted! And even if he had he wouldn't have lived to make any money off of it. It's such a waste of human life, and for what? Anyone can get hit by a car, but I doubt this man would have been crossing a Freeway if he wasn't going after Bieber. There has got to be more laws pertaining to the paparazzi and safety, for them and for the people they're chasing after.
Deadmau5 and Kat Von D Get Engaged Over Twitter
I haven't laughed out loud while reading in a long time, but when I read the exchange of tweets between Deadmau5 and Kat Von D I inappropriately cackled. Engagements should be sweet and romantic and Twitter is probably the most unromantic and lame way to go about popping the question, but that's just how Deadmau5 did it. Deadmau5 claimed he couldn't wait until Christmas to pop the question to his tatted lady friend, so he posted a photograph and asked her via the popular social media website. The photograph is my favorite. If he didn't even have the ring and then had to explain what was wrong with the ring and what changes had to be made to it then he most definitely should have waited to propose. I promise I'm not a superficial person, I just think if you're going to do it, then do it right. Or maybe I'm just a really horrible, bitter person.
Adam Lambert Hates Les Miserables
Adam Lambert took to Twitter to tell his followers that he did not enjoy the singing in the movie version of Les Miserables. I bet everyone was expecting him to love it, but he didn't and I find it refreshing that Lambert wasn't afraid to state his unpopular opinion. Lambert ‘s main issue with the movie was that the director, Tom Hooper, had the actors sing live for every scene in film instead of having the actors first record the songs and then lip sync. I understand where Lambert is coming from since he is a passionate musician with a powerful voice himself, but I disagree. I haven't seen the movie myself yet, but I have heard most of the songs and I was kind of blown away. These songs are sung by actors, not professional Broadway singers who belt out the high notes every night on stage. I personally don't have the desire to go and see the movie right away, but only because I have a weird obsession with musicals and have seen Les Miserables a bunch of times on the Great White Way.
Psy Retires "Gangnam Style"
Psy is going to retire his song "Gangnam Style." Thank the Heavens above; I truly hate this song. Of course this ear sore will never go away a hundred percent, but at least Psy is going to try to bury it. He claims that the song got too popular, which I agree with. It got way, way too popular. Psy chose to bring an end to performing the song live on the annual Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve special. While this is great news, this also means that Psy is most likely working on new music, which scares me because I know he's going to come up with some catchy song that will climb the charts and haunt me forever.
What I'm Listening To:
This week I've only listened to "Wild Child" by Juliet Simms. Seriously, I can't listen to anything else. I'm a little obsessed.
See you guys next week! I know you'll be waiting with bated breath.
