411 Fact or Fiction Music 01.25.13: What's the Deal With Airline Food?
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.25.2013
What did we think of A$AP Rocky's debut album? Did Beyonce do a good job at the presidential inauguration? Will a new U2 album be worth the wait? 411's Dimitri Dorlis and Stewart Lange debate these topics and more!
Welcome to another edition of Fact or Fiction: Music. I'm your host, Joseph Lee.
This week we have Dimitri Dorlis taking on Stewart Lange.
I was unsure of the whole Soundgarden comeback, especially as I wasn't keen on "Live to Rise" and by no means is King Animal the best Soundgarden album ever, but I'm glad to have them back. The lead single grew on me and the album is pretty decent and yes, I'd much rather they stuck together for another album than split again.
Dimitri Dorlis: FICTION.
Hahaha no. I don't want any more Soundgarden. I dislike Soundgarden with a passion. I can't explain why, but I just do. So no, I don't want any more Soundgarden albums, or anything relating to Soundgarden at all.
Ouch. I love me some Beyonce, albeit more to look at than listen to, but this was painful. Any performance that forces people to debate you lip synching or not isn't great, but this was particularly sore. Still, Mrs. Z still looks better than 95% of the human race even when miming.
Dimitri Dorlis: FICTION.
Considering all the reports coming out right now are that she lip-sang, I can't in good conscious say she did a good job. Even if she did actually sing, the fact that there is such a debate over this has me thinking she didn't do a good job, just because it's taking away from the actual Inauguration. But whatever.
Urgh. I hate Tenacious D. I find Jack Black as funny as a poke in the eye. The term comedy rock makes me feel a bit..... Off. I like Tim Minchin and that's about the limit, so no, I wouldn't attend. In fact, it makes me think of Wayne's World 2 before Aerosmith show up.
Dimitri Dorlis: FACT.
Sure, why not. I like comedy. I like Tenacious D. Although the logistics of it would be interesting, since I only know one other comedy singing group (Garfunkel and Oates, who are PRETTY GREAT), so I don't know how they'd fill out a whole festival lineup. But they're clever guys, so I'm sure they could pull it off, and that it would be a fun time.
I don't know, really. I liked parts of the album, but most of it just wasn't very good. Of course, this comes from a guy who is a devoted follower of Childish Gambino, so you can take my opinions with a grain of salt. The album is just a weird mix of slower raps that I'm not a huge fan of, but like I said, there is some good stuff on the album, so I won't say don't buy it. It's just not the best thing I've ever heard.
Stewart Lange: FICTION.
Now, straight off, I'll say I didn't listen to the whole album, but I enjoyed four songs I randomly checked on YouTube and I'll use that as a guide to the fact I'm sure I'd enjoy a whole album. It'd be no more than an album of the week and then forgotten about, but still, not bad.
Will it? Will it really? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you wouldn't be getting anything new from a U2 album that you haven't already heard before. They're not exactly known for an evolving musical style. That being said, if they did actually change their sound for the new album, it could be interesting. Hell, just trying something new would be the most interesting thing U2 has done in years.
Stewart Lange: FICTION.
I know that I'll catch some flack for this, but the only good thing about U2 is the Sepultura version of Bullet the Blue Sky. Bono is a twat, I don't like their music and I'd be happy to avoid ever hearing any new material from them again.
Honestly, I couldn't care less about this. Ok, that's not true. They could have added Soundgarden to this collaboration. Then I could care less.
Stewart Lange: FICTION.
Indeed it is not, good sir. I'm fairly sure I'll live a long and happy life without hearing such a terrible thing, I think. I mean, is this really a thing? Part of me doesn't even believe it. No, can't be real. Thanks for having me, I'm out.
