News and thoughts on Rihanna explaining her gun tattoo, Nicki Minaj changing her look, Taylor Swift's message to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Michael Jackson's kids being shopped for a reality show and more!
Welcome to The Love/Hate News Report, a weekly roundup of six news items from the music scene that I think may or may not change the world.
Taylor Swift Thinks Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Are Going to Hell
HATE
I guess when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made a joke at The Golden Globes about Taylor Swift staying away from Michael J. Fox's son, Swift wasn't laughing. Here's what Swift had to say about it to Vanity Fair:
"You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people," Taylor Swift told Vanity Fair when asked about the incident (and mean girls—not to be mistaken for Mean Girls—in general). "Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved that said, ‘There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.'"
A little harsh, Taylor. Fey and Poehler are two of the funniest and seemingly awesome women in Hollywood so they're not going to Hell. You're supposed to make jokes at award shows, it was why they were hired. Swift has said that she was okay with taking the heat for her reputation as a serial date, saying that she would even be okay with her exes writing songs about her. Clearly Swift can't even take a joke, so maybe don't write that breakup song Joe Jonas, Harry Styles, John Mayer, etc….
Michael Jackson's Kids May Be Getting A Reality Show
HATE
La Toya Jackson, one of the sisters of the late Michael Jackson, is apparently pimping out her brother's kids and wants to sign them up for a reality show. Jackson's children seem like they're pretty well adjusted considering what their lifestyle has been and who their father was, but I don't think a reality show should be in their future. Who am I to really say what should be in their future, but children on reality shows never seem to go well. It is being said that show will focus on La Toya, La Toya and Michael's mother, Katherine, and the children. I would hope that Miss Jackson wouldn't want to exploit her own niece and nephews, but this isn't the first time that she has used the children for money. She apparently signed the children to her talent agency, allowing her to collect fifteen percent from each of them.
Justin Bieber Needs New Pants
HATE
I can respect Justin Bieber for not being afraid to be different and take fashion risks, but these MC Hammer pants need to go. I sound like a grandmother, but pull up your pants Bieber! I've tried to ignore it for the past few weeks, but it needs to be addressed. I need to bring this issue to light. It looks like you're wearing a diaper. Not a cute look. Okay, I feel better now.
LeAnn Rimes Has Had Enough, Guys
HATE
LeAnn Rimes is whining about something else again, because she's such a victim after stealing someone else's husband. Rimes talked to the website Metro and said that she feels like she is always being judged and feels the need to set the record straight and explain herself a lot. She's also not apologizing for her actions anymore because she feels that she's done enough of that. You know who needs to explain themselves and repeatedly apologize? I will tell you, people who do shitty things. Rimes claims that she hates all of the media attention she gets, but this is a big, fat lie. We all know that if she ever stopped talking about herself she wouldn't have much of a career. I think she knows that too.
Nicki Minaj Fires Her Style Team
HATE
Nicki Minaj has fired her style team and reportedly wants to look more professional. Sometimes Minaj's looks are a little out there, but I liked that about her. She has her own style, she's always changing her look, and she owns it. She's whacky, she's current and cool, that's her thing but she doesn't want it to be her thing anymore. I guess with someone like Minaj, always changing your look sometimes means changing it to something more subdued and grown up.
Rihanna Is Not a Victim
HATE
Rihanna has explained that her gun tattoo represents strength, and that she is not a victim. So guns equal strength? That Rihanna is always sending her young fans awesome messages isn't she? It's great that Rihanna wants to be and feel like a strong woman, but I don't think a tattoo of a gun is the right way to represent that. Is she trying to say that victims should get guns to protect themselves? Maybe, maybe not. I don't know exactly what the tattoo means to Rihanna, what she feels when she looks at it, but she should be more careful about the messages she sends, or at least keep the meanings of her tattoo to herself. Teenagers are so impressionable. They're like sponges and they soak up anything and everything, especially what their idols say and do. There I go sounding like a Grandma again.
What I'm Listening To:
Tegan and Sara are back with some new music and it's great! I have always been a fan of the duo. They're the perfect mix of sentimental and fun. "Walking With A Ghost" was my favorite Tegan and Sara song, but their new single, "Closer," has taken that spot. "Closer" is so damn catchy, and you sing along AND dance to it. I promise that you'll love it.
