411 Music Fact or Fiction 08.01.14: If We Already Know You're Fancy, Why Are You Telling Us?
Posted by Joseph Lee on 08.01.2014

Welcome to another edition of Fact or Fiction: Music. I'm your host, Joseph Lee.

This week we have Joseph Paige Jr against Tony Acero.

1) 2 Chainz' music video for "Freebase" was enjoyable.

Tony Acero: FICTION. Hellllll nooooo. Set aside the fact that he tried to emulate the beloved Michael Jackson. Nevermind the fact that the song is asinine above all else. Let's just focus in the ridiculousness that is 2 Chainz. I'm happy he reinvented himself and found success but damn it, this guy is straight cancer to hip hop.

Joseph Paige Jr: FACT. When I first heard that 2 Chainz had a new video and that it was a play on Michael Jackson's legendary video "Thriller" I avoided it like the plague. However, after watching the clip from 2 Chainz I have to admit it was quite enjoyable. The song was decent and the video didn't get too cheesy or had moments when things seemed to be overdone.

Score: 0 for 1

2) MAGIC!'s "Rude" is deserving of its spot on top of the Hot 100.

Tony Acero: FACT. It's there for a reason, isn't it? I mean, you can call it pop fodder or cheesy and easy but it's catchy as all hell and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Probably because I don't listen to the radio much. Still, nothin wrong with a little bit of fun and nonsensicalness...unless your 2 Chainz.

Joseph Paige Jr: FACT. MAGIC!'S "Rude" is my new jam. The song is super cheesy but who doesn't love a rock/pop track with a good reggae beat in the back.

Score: 1 for 2

3) You're interested in a new album from Missy Elliott.

Tony Acero: FACT. Yassss! Please, Missy, save us from the mundane! I'm happy she is healthy and even more happy to hear she'll be returning to form (hopefully) soon! I'm anxious to hear what her and Timbo can put together this time around.

Joseph Paige Jr: FACT. I've been interested in a new Missy Elliott album like 4+ years ago. This current state of female rappers really has me craving pure talent and not just some chick using her sexuality to garner attention for mediocre bars.

Score: 2 for 3

SWITCH

4) It would be disappointing if Blur's new album was never finished.

Joseph Paige Jr: FICTION. If Blur never recorded music again the world will continue to spin. We'll just accept the fact that we may never get a "Song 3"... Woohoo!!!

Tony Acero: FICTION. Not disappointing in the least. Not my bag, baby! Let's give someone else a chance to answer it, tho. What say you, oh commenters of mine?

Score: 3 for 4

5) Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" is the song of the summer.

Joseph Paige Jr: FACT. If I go to a club and don't hear Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" I'm slapping the DJ. That song has made my summer! I'm sort of dreading the day that I'd get annoyed by it, because it is getting a lot of overplay but it's well deserving.

Tony Acero: FACT. Sure, it got tiresome, but nary a voice around isn't or wasn't singing this little lady anthem since it dropped. It gave Iggy the proper push and got her right where she needed to be to be considered a success.

Score: 4 for 5

6) Lenny Kravitz' "Sex" was a good song.

Joseph Paige Jr: FACT. Lenny Kravitz can do no wrong in my book. His last album was my ed a pub about 2 years ago. His new track "Sex" feels just as good as sex. It's danceable, upbeat, and has great imagery. I'm really looking forward to a whole album if the stuff sounds like this.

Tony Acero: FICTION. It certainly wasn't a bad song, but not good either. Then again, I just defending MAGIC! And Iggy in the same column space so what do I know? At least it wasn't 2 Chainz...

Score: 4 for 6
