Feel Good Hit Of The Summer - The Return of Portishead
Posted by Frank Estrada on 02.22.2006

Hello there. Sorry this is late. Just started a new semester in school so my focus has been that. Its so expensive and I don't know what I want to change my major to. Sorry there is no Coachella artist of the week, but if you want one. Check Paul Okenfold. He is the original Superstar DJ. Also as you may have heard, Guns and Roses have, or had, a few songs leaked on to the net. I head it being played in Los Angeles on KROQ. You can stream them online to possibly hear it, if you haven't already. They are playing a song called I.R.S. Now it my not be the final mix, but it is good quality. My only complaint is the lead guitar. You are not Slash, so stop trying to sound like him. I don't know if the lead here is Buckethead, but the solos are pale. I head good things about Buckethead, so I was expecting something zany. It's a good song. It's good to hear Axl again.

Portishead Return
Swimming thought pages and pages of info online, I went to the official Portishead website and most of the links there are disabled. What I did notice was a like to their myspace page. Looking at their blog, it informs that they are in the studio with Geoff and Beth. They have two tracks on the site, one called Greek Jam and one called Key Bored 299 03, which I haven't heard yet because my speakers weren't plugged in at the time of writing this. So if you are interested and want to track them in myspace, you can go to www.myspace.com/portisheadalbum3. Also if you want to look into their greatness, just pick up their Live:Roseland NYC cd or dvd. You want to hear a great live album. This is it. It is possibly one of my top 100 albums of all time. Hint hint.

Grammy Backlash
I have some beef here. The day after the Grammy's, a lot of articles recapping the event; none on here I must mention, talked about U2 stealing the Grammy from Mariah Carey, or Upstaging her. Seems that no woman has yet taken more than five Grammy's home in one night. Mariah was nominated for eight awards for The Emancipation of Mimi. She took home three. Three awards. Do you know there were some artists who were actually shut out of winning any awards this year? Did they change the name of the show to the Mariah's? Her album was good enough to win three Grammy's. Lets talk about that. You want your story, here it goes; Comeback Kid Mariah Carey wins three Grammy's. Don't like that? Is it too positive? I'm not a big Mariah Carey fan, I do like her earlier work, but she bores me. When I see her sitting crazy in the bathtub, that's the Mariah Carey I want to see.

Brokeback Willie
Don't know if you heard, but Willie Nelson released a cover of the 1981 song Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other on iTunes. This song is famous for being the first mainstream gay country song. He debuted it on Howard Stern's show on Valentine's Day. This may surprise you; I mean Willie Nelson singing a gay cowboy song? Well he did contribute He Was A Friend Of Mine for the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack. This is very odd and cool at the same time. It is defiantly a sign of the times. Yea it's too easy to make jokes about this subject. I'm not; just point it out for all you who might find this interesting.
