Guns N' Roses tour dates, European festival lineups, Trivium to tour with Iron Maiden, Opeth setlist and more.
Hey T-Fanz. It's been a busy week for the T-Maestro, what with Forum Drafts and a whole bunch of 411 music features going on. I've also been working a lot and had a job interview today. Fingers crossed!!
Enough of this tomfoolery. Onto the news.
GnR News
411's Most Important Band, Guns N' Roses, have been all over the news recently, announcing tour dates (omg!). The band will be playing at the RDS Arena in Dublin on june 9th. Tickets will cosr a mere 54 quid and 50 pence. Are you ready for this.. the support band is MOTLEY CRUE!! Well, at least according to Aiken Promotions and RTE. The Crue's representatives claim to know nothing about any festival appearance. Mysterious.
Guns have also been confirmed to be headlining this year's Download Festival in Donnington, UK, along with Metallica. In more mysteriosity (which is a real word), GnR's photographer, Ross Halfin, posted a message on his website saying the original lineup would be playing at the event. The message was later removed. Axl Rose had this to say: "The UK and Europe have always been special for me. After our last great shows there, we are all very excited and looking forward to getting back over there and in front of such great audiences. Donington has always meant a lot to me personally, way before I ever played there. To be asked to headline is for me an honour and a privilege that none of us take for granted. We look forward to seeing all of you at Download!" Festival Director Stuart Galbraith has this to say: "For Guns N' Roses to play at Download, 18 years after their last performance at Donington will be amazing. Adding this to Metallica's confirmation is a dream. Originally we would have been happy to have one of these great bands to headline Download 2006, but to be able to secure both is just awesome." The T-Bomber has this to say: "I want to go. Kthx."
GnR's tour of Europe is now shaping up to look a little like this:
May 27 - Lisbon, POR @ Rock In Rio (Lisbon)
Jun. 3-4 - ITA @ Gods of Metal
Jun. 3-6 - Nurburgring, GER @ Rock am Ring
Jun. 09 – Dublin, IRE @ RDS Arena
Jun. 9-11 - Donington, UK @ Download
Jun. 15-17 - Pannonia Fields, AUT @ Nova Rock
On February 10th, Axl and a few friends went to New York nightclub Stereo to celebrate Axl's birthday (which was on February 6th). The club's owner, Barry Mullineaux, had some interesting things to say. Among them:
- Axl was waffling on about how he's been holding back for 10 years, whereas Slash and co have gone off and done Velvet Revolver. He says he'll show everyone who the 'main ingredient' in the band was.
- Axl brought down 2 CDs, each with 10 tracks of new material, and was rocking out to them in the club. Apparently the stuff sounds alot like classic GnR but surprisingly heavy from time to time. Axl kept putting it on track #3, he played it like 6 times.

Rumours about the feature band for the next series of the "Rock Star". Among the bands speculated are Queen and Van Halen, but both are unlikely. Producers of the show have said that it will be an "all-star rock 'n' roll supergroup", although whether it's actually a supergroup in the Audioslave, Velvet Revolver sense of the word or the producers just meant to say "famous band" is up in the air. My guess is the second one.
Barry Burns, guitarist of Mogwai, has had a hissy fit about the recent Brit Awards and their winners. He called James Blunt a twat and Chris Martin of Coldgay a fuckface. Fair's fair. He goes onto rant about Kaiser Chiefs, who walked away with a few awards, saying "And the Kaiser Chiefs won best 'rock act', which is just mental. They're not a rock band. I met one of them in Japan and he was lovely, if a little scared by my over-affable drunkenness, but they're no rock band."
