The Slightly Slanted Music News Report 07.05.06
Posted by Jared McGuckin on 07.05.2006

Hello, and welcome to another edition of the Slightly Slanted Music News Report. I was unavailable to do last weeks column, so a big thanks goes out to Morgan for filling in for me. Well, it's July 5th, normally a day wrought with sunburns, hangovers and ER stories. As for myself, I worked and my July 4th celebration was limited to watching the fireworks on TV. Yes, folks, my life is just that exciting.

To shift gears here real fast, the Video Games section here at 411mania is almost here, and guess what? I'll be there too! That's right, you can get a double dose of Jared everyweek. How will I find time to complete a music news report and a video game column on top of real life respobsabilyies? I have no idea, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to drop me a line and help me out. On to the news…

Sometimes The News Just Writes Itself, But Most Of The Time I Have To Type It Out

The News: The bands Allele have announced the departure of lead vocalist Wally Wood. His replacement has been revealed to be Andrew Toole.

The Slant: I'm not going to lie, I'm haven't heard much from these guys, a better writer would do some research and check them out, but then again, I'm not that good. But let's look on the bright side, at least their not turning to their fans to submit applications for the vacant spot like everyone else these days.

The News: Deadsy has been added to the bill for the Family Values Tour. Deadsy will join 10 Years, Bury Your Dead, and Bullets And Octane on the second stage.

The Slant: These guys make this tour almost worth missing. I caught Deadsy open for Korn a few years ago and it was so damn awful. If you haven't heard them, consider yourself lucky. If Prince William was cloned five times and hung out with Orgy, this would be the result.

The News: Marilyn Manson is set to begin work on his film Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll in France in two weeks. Manson will be directing and playing the part of Alice in Wonderland author, Lewis Carol. As far as what to expect, Manson said this, "I'm a big fan of [Roman] Polanski and of Ingmar Bergman, and I wouldn't say it will be like a modern horror film, and I wouldn't say it will be like a modern horror film. It wouldn't be like what people are used to seeing today. But I think by being traditional, sometimes like a Hitchcock, it's almost modern, because people are so used to seeing special effects."

The Slant: I remember hearing about this project years ago, and it's nice to see it finally come to fruition. My thoughts on Manson are pretty well documented in my past work, but I think I might actually see this, if nothing else, then out of curiosity.

Take Me This Buckethead Album Off The Shelf

Buckethead – Funnel Weaver

I'm not kidding, I will feature a Buckethead CD every week until someone tells me they took my advice and listened to it.

Any Last Words?

Another slow news week, sorry.

Stay out of the deep end.
