All You Cannot Live Without 01.08.07: New Years Hang Over Edition Vol. II
Posted by Ben Czajkowski on 01.08.2007

For Every Foolish Word That You Spit…

Welcome to 2007, loyal readers!! I'm sorely disappointed this didn't go up last week, but due to the fact that I went back to school on the 31st and didn't have internet access until the 3rd, there's no way I could have gotten up a New Years Edition on New Years. I apologize to those of you who strayed to the site, looking for column with your hangover to find that I was no where to be found. My heart-felt condolences to you.

I want to thank everyone who has made this column a great success. For everyone who has been reading since Day One, I applaud you and I love you without knowing you. For everyone who has picked up this column since it's conception, thank you and I like you.

I don't love you. Yet. Once you reach that year mark, our relationship goes to the next level.

I would also like to thank Ashish, especially Brandon, all the Mike's on the site, BB, and others who have been mentors and wonderful editors and co-workers. If this could be my full-time job, I'd love to just sit in an office and just DO NOTHING with you guys. Sit around, talk music, tv, and just bullshit till we die.

I have to say, I love this job more than anything. I've done a lot of things in my 21 years, but this is definitely within the top 5. Right up there with my first BJ, getting Eagle, and valedictorian.

I do this for you guys. Every Sunday, I sit down and I write this column. I don't have very many friends I can talk shop with on a regular basis, and it's nice to sit down and write to the group of you guys who read this from all around the world.

I'll keep doing this for as long as Ashish and the Music Zone editors keep me around. Or until Wookubus dies and PRP pays me. Sorry. Fantasy of mine. Dream job, I guess. I jest, of course. I'm loyal to you guys.

Here's to Year One, guys. Thanks.

The Low Down on the Underground

So, my big news for the week comes from my hometown: Pittsburgh, PA. The Steel City. The 412, if you must. The Home of the Hated Steelers. The news is bittersweet, not for me, of course. One of the things I introduced to the column last year was "Making the Band", and I focused on a do-it-yourself group, Monument the Ghost.

Well, I am happy to move them into National News Status. As of the end of December/first week of January, they are officially signed to Bring the Swarm Media. This is a huge step for the band, and they are highly, highly excited.

During the first week of the month, the boys have been in studio, recording their follow-up to These Are The Victims, which came out earlier last year. Drums were recorded earlier in the week, followed by bass, guitar, and vocals. I do believe it's all done.

Secondly, they've added vocalist Pat Kays to team with Ben Zebrasky. He'll now be playing every show.

Sadly, though, after the show on Saturday night, drummer Matt Hooper parted with the band. The band, however, vows to continue with everything, replacing him with Shawn Devine.

The yet untitled disc is due out later this year. Check out a demo clip of a new song on their myspace player. On the 15th, the band plays with xBishopx at the Lawrenville Moose Club in Pittsburgh.

Onward, now! Flaw has announced their first show since the band's reunion in October. The concert will take place on March 11 in Louisville, KY with Powerman 5000 at Headliners Music Hall.

The bands lineup is as follows:

Chris Volz - Vocals
Jason Daunt - Guitar
Lance Arny - Guitar
Chris Ballinger - Drums

The band is in search of a bassist and plan to have a new album in stores by the end of the year. Additional tour dates are expected to be announced soon.

Collective Soul are planning a March 20 release for their new studio album. The band began tracking the album on December 10 with producer Anthony J. Resta, who also produced the bands 2000 release 'Blender'.

Shinedown front-man Brent Smith recently spoke about their third studio album. He says:

The sounds I want to develop will be unlike anything than have been on the last two records. I want to make it the most massive-sounding record that we've done. And the band is going more on a heavier side on this third album. The riffs that have been coming up and the subject matter of the songs, they're way different than the ones on the last two, and it will definitely be a heavier record.

The band completed touring for their latest album Us and Them (which recently went Gold) last night in Myrtle Beach, SC and will perform "one-off" dates in between the writing and recording of the album.

Stone Sour will be issuing a single on various formats for their track "Sillyworld" overseas on March 12 via Roadrunner. No word on the track listings for the outing as of yet.

Machine Head's new album The Blackening is tentatively set for a March 27 release date through Roadrunner.

Soilwork are planning to enter the studio in early March to begin recording their new album. The band had this to say:

Since the release of Stabbing the drama in 2005, we made about 250 shows for that album. Now it's time to take a rest, but also to get focused on the upcoming album. Right now we're working on the new songs. We have about seven songs ready and so far it sounds great. It will be a killer album. We will enter the studio at the beginning of march and, hopefully, the album will be out at late summer. We will keep you updated of the recording progress. And... regarding the guitarist situation; Soon it will be decided who's gonna replace Peter.

Bury Your Dead have confirmed the departure of their frontman Mat Bruso from their line-up. Despite the the setback, the band plan to stick together and find a replacement for Bruso. A statement on the matter from the remaining members of the band:

We are sorry to say that Mat Bruso will not be singing for Bury Your Dead anymore. He has decided that he has come to a point in his life where he must focus on more important things like going back to school to become a teacher and his upcoming marriage. You have to respect that and we are in no way mad. Just upset that we're loosing a piece of the family. We do however look forward to trying out new vocalist and finding our new frontman. Thanks to everyone taking a interest in trying out and thanks for everyone's support. We also apologize for having to cancel our Europe run with Killswitch Engage and The Haunted. We hope you all understand.

Former members of Shenoah have formed a new group dubbed The Ohio Sky, material from the group can be found online here.

From Autumn To Ashes have announced the track listing for their new album Holding A Wolf By The Ears. It runs as follows:

01 - "Deth Kult Social Club"
02 - "On The Offensive"
03 - "Recounts And Recollections"
04 - "Daylight Slaving"
05 - "Delusions Of Grandeur"
06 - "Sensory Deprivation Adventure"
07 - "Every Thing I Need"
08 - "Underpass Tutorial"
09 - "Travel"
10 - "A Goat In Sheep's Rosary"
11 - "Pioneers"

Expect the effort to land in stores within the next few months.

According to a posting on Opeth's official website, band frontman/guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt is not only writing new material for Opeth's next album, but has also started work on an as-yet unnamed side project as well.

P.O.D. have now confirmed that guitarist Jason Truby will in fact be leaving the band. Truby says:

I am no longer a member of P.O.D. I want to thank all of you for your support and love over the past four years. It has been an honor getting the opportunity to spend time with you and sharing music with you. My decision to depart as a member is personal and came before Marcos was considered. I believe in P.O.D. and will be apart of P.O.D forever. They are life long friends. As for myself, I've been working on a project with my good friend Phil Keaggy who is helping me with a vocal album, and also linking-up with Lance Garvin on some tunes as well. None the less, Thanks to all of you for the chance to be a part of this rally for the greater cause. Sometime you have to follow the wind even when you don't know where its leading. I pray the Most High will guide you in His unspeakable love. Good bye for now....

The group were recently rejoined by former guitarist Marcos Curiel.

Leng Tch'e are planning a March 6 release date through Relapse for their new album Marasmus.

bloodsimple. will begin mixing their new album this coming Monday, January 8 and are also nearing completion of their long in the works DVD outing. More on that:

Our new record is pretty much done. We will begin mixing here in NYC on jan, 8th. We are very excited for this release, its an amazing record. A huge step up the mountain for us and we all are very proud of it. We have also been putting the finishing touches on our long awaited DVD. Megadeth are nearly done tracking their upcoming new album United Abominations and will soon begin tracking it.

The Lostprophets recently revealed that they plan to hit the studio this year to record a new album which they hope to have out by the fall.

All That Remains have added former Diecast drummer Jason Costa to their line-up, a short announcement regarding that:

All That Remains would like to announce the addition of Jason Costa on drums!! Some of you may know Jason from his work with Diecast on Tearing Down Your Blue Skies. If not? Trust me, he's NASTY! So thanks to everyone who sent in a video and thanks to the guys who came and played with us!!!

Element Eighty called it quits after their New Years Eve show at the Ridglea Theatre in Ft. Worth, Texas. The band released their self-titled Universal Records debut in 2003 which included the hit "Broken Promises". The track was included on the 'Need for Speed Underground' video game soundtrack and peaked at No. 36 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The band split with Universal Records in 2004 and in 2005 released The Bear on their Texas Cries Records label.

Embers Fade have announced they have changed their name to Framing Hanley. The band has also signed a deal with Silent Majority Records, the label formed by former Creed manager Jeff Hanson. The band will begin recording their full-length debut in February with Brett Hestla (Dark new Day, Faktion).

Flyleaf have confirmed they will perform at this year's Cornerstone Festival. The annual Christian music fest starts on June 25th and runs through June 30th in Bushnell, Illinois and will also feature Switchfoot, Underoath, Emery, Anberlin, Skillet and many others.

Disturbed have decided against a second leg of their Music As A Weapon tour and will instead begin work on their fourth studio album

Billy Corgan has confirmed that the Smashing Pumpkins will tour in 2007. Corgan writes,

May 2007 prove to be a blessed year in every respect and every way...I send you every ounce of love I have in my heart...May the grace of Mother be with you...This year for us will see a new album of songs and a world tour of tears, and we truly look forward to playing again for fans young, old, and missed...So yes, tunes are being dusted off, while others are being asked to kindly submit to an upstart millennia and all it's asking...In our daily prayers, we send out the signal that all who should hear us come forward and be seen, and by extension, heard...when we opened the lid on this music box, we were pleasantly suprised at the music that played: familiar yet unknown, welcoming but not sentimental...and that is all we can ask...God has absolutely blessed us in every respect...for many years there were private laments about opportunities missed and hearts so broken, but no more...we have turned the page and moved on, from places and faces, names and games...this age calls for resolve and certitude, and the fire within to burn ever bright...if that fire should be connected to absolutely deafening guitars, thundering drums, and the melodies of snakes, then so be it! We love you! If you are meant to be with us, find us!! We have need, and our arms are ever-open...although I can say definitively we don't need jugglers...but we do need ???? (what?) what do we need!

The new album is expected to be in stores by May.

Oh man, this just fucking blew my tiny little, writer's mind. The RIAA is suing the Russian website AllofMP3.com on behalf of EMI, Sony BMG, Universal Music, and Warner Music in the amount of $150,000 for each of the 11 million songs that were downloaded from June to October of 2006. That comes to a lawsuit totaling $1.65 trillion! I have to say, that's kind of ridiculous.

AllofMP3.com has issued the following statement regarding the RIAA's 1.65 trillion dollar lawsuit filed earlier this week against Russian based Mediaservices in New York.

"AllofMP3 understands that several US record label companies filed a lawsuit against Mediaservices in New York. This suit is unjustified as AllofMP3.com does not operate in New York. Certainly the labels are free to file any suit they wish, despite knowing full well that AllofMP3.com operates legally in Russia.".

AllofMP3.com plans to continue operating legally and comply with all Russian laws.

Warning: Side Effects of the Touring Updates May Cause Moshing

Listeners' Lounge

Fight Of Your Life have made their track "The Phoenix & The Fall" available online for the holidays here. The track features a guest appearance from Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix.

Hatebreed's track "Destroy Everything", which is taken from their latest album Supremacy, has been made available online here.

Stroke 9 have posted a new track titled "You're So Good" on their MySpace player. The band is currently in the studio working on a new album. The disc is expected to be in stores early this year.

This track is simply amazing. Earshot have posted a unmixed version of a track titled "Closer" on their MySpace player. The plans to release a new album in the spring with a tour to follow.

Thoughts for the Week

System of a Down's current "hiatus" could possibly turn into a permanent split according to front-man Serj Tankian. In an interview with Kerrang! magazine Tankian said:

"I honestly don't know if System of a Down are over or not. Maybe in a few years we'll want to make another album, or maybe we'll want to tour... It's impossible to tell right now."

The band announced the hiatus following their Ozzfest run earlier this year.

Closing Point of Interest: Will We See More Stone Temple Pilots?

In a MySpace Q&A session Velvet Revolver front-man Scott Weiland hints at a possible Stone Temple Pilots reunion saying "Every shelf needs two bookends". Weiland is currently working on both a new solo album and the sophomore Velvet Revolver release. VR began tracking the album tentatively titled Libertad with producer Brendan O'Brien (Audioslave, Pearl Jam) last month. A May release is expected. Weilands solo album should be in stores later this year or early 2008.

While speaking with Jam! Music, current Army of Anyone and former Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo doesn't rule out a STP reunion in the future. He said, "I never say never. I don't think there was ever a specific end to Stone Temple Pilots...whether it was for Velvet Revolver or for himself, I'm happy Weiland's got his life together. I think there's a better relationship now that we're not in a band".

Army of Anyone will headline the 2007 SnoCore Tour which also features Hurt, Dropping Daylight and Neurosonic .

So, I guess we'll be hearing more on this for the future. Stay tuned.
