All You Cannot Live Without 01.22.07: I Spent My Entire Sunday Writing This
Posted by Ben Czajkowski on 01.22.2007
Award season is in full swing, and Ive got your Grammy coverage. Does anyone care about Chinese Democracys release date? Many bands to enter the studio, and many more with new release dates and album titles. Lineups change and tour are set to commence. Various label compilations. Plus, I take a couple more shots at Amy Lees engagement. Pardon the vagueness, folks, but I wrote THIRTY pages for this weeks column. I cant justify it in a summary.
For Every Foolish Word That You Spit
Welcome to the second edition for 2007. Some of you (like Jamie Extract), are wondering wtf happened to the column last week? Two columns in four weeks after only missing a few columns in 2006? Ben, you're off to a terrible start.
And that's how 2007 has begun for me. Terrible. Last week, while I should have been toiling endlessly to appease the music news hungry masses, my (now ex) girlfriend and I were verbally dismembering each other. While I love you guys and I would have loved to do this, kicking her out to write this would have not been in my testicles' best interest.
She is a kicker.
And Monday through Thursday brought me the drama of a two of my residents, who are roommates, engaging in unnecessary fisticuffs, sending one to the hospital and putting the other under watch.
So, it, was a bad week. But these past 2 days have been marginally better. Friday night, I went out and had a good time. I participated in sinful activities, which included tequila and peppermint schnapps. God, it was such a good time.
And on Saturday, I won 40$ in poker, over 2 games. I can afford to buy another textbook now! After I finish this week's column, it's back to the fucking drawing board for homework and such things.
Plus, I owe you guys my kick-ass review of the Skin and Bones DVD. BB, I swear to Jesus that it's coming!
Regardless, it's time for some kick ass music news. Feel free to grab some cheesecake and some pop, pull up a chair, send the link to a friend, and just fucking relax.

It's All Just A Popularity Contest, and You Fuckin' Know It: Volume II
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to volume 2 of the Grammy Music Awards. This is the 49th year for this popularity contest, and while I haven't watched it since 1996, I still feel that it is an important music event. If you don't, good. I'm really glad you feel that way. Odds are, if you read this column and are a hardcore follower, you don't listen to a lot of what is played on the radio.
So, if you're in this strictly for the news, jump to the piece under this section.
And, if you care about the Grammies, good, again, I'm glad. That means that I've done my job to reach all aspects of my fanbase, in terms of music. This year, there, in my opinion, there's really not the same surprising, new bands that quite rose to the top for me like it did last year. I think a lot of the shit is either overplayed, over-hyped, or both. Whatever.
I'm here to explore those categories that pertain to this column, or close enough to it. Everything else is worthless! "My choice" is who I'd like to see win out of the category and the prediction is who is most likely to win this year.
This year, I just decided to streamline the nominees and categories rather than struggling with HTML formatting. This document is already almost 30 pages long in Microsoft Word. So much to cover after this, too.

You can catch the Grammy Awards February 11, 2006 on CBS, live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. I doubt it'll be an exciting show, but it's something to pass the time. I'll be watching and not doing homework!
Alright, enough with the Grammies. They're not even hearing yet and I'm sick of hearing about and researching them.
The Low Down on the Underground
I've not cared for a long time, if ever, but for those still even remotely interested, the a Las Vegas newspaper reported that Guns N' Roses front-man Axl Rose had been recording the final vocal tracks for Chinese Democracy at Palms Studios. The latest tentative release date is March 6. I wouldn't hold my fucking breath, though. We've all been waiting for it and it's never came.
A Perfect Murder have selected War Of Aggression as the title to their new album which they will begin recording come January 29 with producer Pierre Remillard (Cryptopsy, Beneath The Massacre). The band, who have been joined by new members Kyrill Ducharme on guitar and Francois Michel Labrie on bass, have 14 new songs written with 11 set to make the final cut for the album. The album is set to surface in stores on June 12.
Evans Blue have announced the title of their forthcoming sophomore album to be The Pursuit Begins When This Portrayal of Life Ends. They also released the following details about it:
We start recording our new album on Monday, January 22. It's finished as far as writing goes. It will have 13 songs and like our last album will have a concept and a running theme. The last album dealt with a relationship from start to finish and all the drama in between. The new album takes on much darker themes and imagery and ties it all together with one common thread. I don't want to reveal too much about the subject matter, but I can say that it will hit home for a lot of listeners. It twists and turns through life's painful emotions and just when you think it is at its lowest, point there is an uplifting sensation. There is always hope; though it may be covered in dirt, it is always there.
I imagine this will see the light of day in 2007, and it will probably be my most anticipated release of the new year.
Porcupine Tree's new album has been dubbed Fear Of A Blank Planet and will see a release overseas in mid-April. No word on a U.S. release date, as of yet.
Korn have recruited drummer Terry Bozzio as a temporary replacement for David Silveria who is currently on hiatus from the group. Bozzio will be handling the drums in the studio for the band on their upcoming new album and depending on Silveria may even in tour with the band in support of the effort as well. Presently the new album is expected out in June through Virgin. There is a lot more Korn news at the end of the column.
American Head Charge will be issuing a new CD/DVD package entitled Can't Stop The Machine through Nitrus on April 3. According to the official press release:
The DVD will feature a complete retrospective of the band's career from the early days signing to Rick Rubin's American recordings, performing live on Ozzfest 2001, worldwide tours with Slipknot, Mudvayne, Static-X, and many more. Plus a look behind the scene at making both The War of Art and The Feeding. It will also include all of the band's videos and a special tribute to late guitarist Bryan Daniel Ottoson. The CD will feature live recordings, remixes, and other unreleased material.
The complete track listing will be released in the coming weeks, and when it pops up, I'll dish it out, fresh and hot.
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine recently made an online posting in which he revealed a number of new song titles for the groups forthcoming album United Abominations. They include:
"Gears Of War"
"Washington Is Next"
"United Abominations"
"Amerikhastan"
"Blessed Are The Dead"
"Never Walk Alone"
Furthermore, the band has also tracked a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Out On The Tiles", more than likely for b-side use and overseas releases. Eleven songs in total are expected to be featured on the North American release of United Abominations, which is tentatively expected out on April 24.
Tom Morello of Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine fame will be releasing his debut solo album under his The Nightwatchman moniker on April 24. Dubbed One Man Revolution, the album is set to feature 13 tracks produced by Brendan O'Brien (Rage Against The Machine, Stone Temple Pilots). Meanwhile, rumors are circulating that Rage Against The Machine may reunite for a live performance at this year's "Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival". I wouldn't really find it too surprising, especially with Chris Cornell looking to get his solo career going.
10 Years will begin tracking for their new album today (January 22) with Travis Wyrick, who also produced their independent release, Killing All That Holds You. Following the two week tracking session the band will enter OceanWay Studios in Nashville, TN, where they will record drum and bass tracks. More info on the album will be announced in the coming weeks.
The forthcoming Jesuit (Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan) discography was recently re-mastered and is eyeing a spring release. The tentative track listing for the outing runs as follows:

07 - "Suicide King"
08 - "Tranzor Z"
09 - "Smooth Talking Son Of A Bitch"
10 - "Trigger"
11 - "Canonize"
12 - "Expatriate"

Iron Maiden - "The Trooper"
Deep Purple - "Hush"
Rancid - "Salvation"

The game is also expected to feature the tracks included on the already-released Playstation 2 version as well, including those by the likes of Lamb Of God, Primus, Every Time I Die, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Avenged Sevenfold and many more.

Job For A Cowboy have officially added drummer Jon Rice to their line-up. The group recently completed recording their new album, reportedly titled Genesis, which will see a release in the spring/summer. For now, a demo of a new track entitled "Embedded" is available online here.

It appears that there is finally going to be an "official" film made about the life of Kurt Cobain. His widow Courtney Love has acquired the rights to Heavier Than Heaven, the biography written by author Charles Cross. Several studios are reportedly in discussions with Love to bring the book to the big screen. Ewan McGregor is reportedly being considered to play late Nirvana frontman. McGregor, who has starred in films such as "Trainspotting" and played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the recent "Star Wars" prequels, is said to be the favorite choice of Courtney Love. Love recently wrote at Moonwashedrose.com that the actress hired to play her was "a little too pretty."
Angels and Airwaves drummer Atom Willard has reportedly chosen to leave his previous band, The Offspring. Willard joined The Offspring in 2003 replacing Ron Welty who left to start the band Steady Ground. An official statement from the band has not been released. The band is in the studio with producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Our Lady Peace) working on a new album with a spring 2007 release planned.
Iron Maiden will release their Death on the Road DVD in the U.S. on January 30. The DVD was filmed at the Westerfalenhalle Arena in Dortmund, Germany.
VentanA, who feature Stitch (Mushroomhead) and former members of Erase The Grey within their ranks, have added guitarist Jason Knotek of In Winter/Pig to their line-up. The band has been in the studio as of late recording their new effort which is being produced by Skinny of Mushroomhead. In other news, they have posted a live version of their rendition of "Cry Little Sister", the track which served as the theme to the 80's movie "The Lost Boys", online here.
Relapse will be reissuing Converge and Agoraphobic Nosebleed's split outing The Poacher Diaries on CD on January 23.
Seether have entered the studio to begin work on their third studio album. An April/May release is expected.
Jimmy Eat World's first album in three years is due for a summer release through Interscope. The album was recorded at the band's rehearsal space in Tempe, AZ with producer Butch Vig. Mixing is set to begin in late February or early March.
Chimaira frontman Mark Hunter recently gave a bit of insight on what to expect from the DVD that will be included with the special edition of their forthcoming new album Resurrection. It is set for a March 6 release date.
nine inch nails have set Year Zero as the title to their new album which will likely feature some "surprise vocalists" upon it. An April release date is expected. In the meantime, the band will release their new live DVD effort nine inch nails Live: Beside You In Time on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on February 27. Speculation (from yours truly) about the new album and it's "surprise" vocalists might include Maynard James Keenan. They've worked together in the past, but has the bitterness between them been resolved. My buddy Marshall would think it would be hilarious if Manson were to pop up.

Hellyeah, the new band comprised of members of Mudvayne, Nothingface and ex-Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, have posted some new tracks online here. An April 10 release date is slated for it. The effort will be self-titled when it sees daylight. In a recent press release, members of the band commented on the experience, with vocalist Chad Gray stating:
Tom, Jerry and I have been talking about working together ever since we staggered through the streets of New Orleans five years ago. I mentioned it to Greg and he immediately wanted in, and when Vinnie came on board the whole thing just took on a life of its own. This was a must-do project for all of us It's cool to have both Mudvayne and Hellyeah as creative outlets now, even though the approach, subject matter, and attitudes between the two projects are completely different. I'm looking forward to balancing both bands in my life-my new extremely busy life.
Vinnie Paul on the other hand, chipped in with the following:
The guys from Hellyeah and the incredible music we've created have brought me back to what I love. Hellyeah is the best record I've collaborated on since Vulgar Display of Power. The vibe is 'positive with a kick-your-ass-attitude.' I can't wait to take this band on tour.
Perry Farrell's new band the Satellite Party will release their debut The Ultra Payload on May 15. The first single, "Kinky", will hit radio next month.

The new material is coming along nicely. The songs are a lot more mature and the music is much faster, aggressive, and way more pissed off. I think fans are going to really love it. We are really pumped to work with Erik Rutan on Malice. We've never worked with a producer and I don't think we could have chosen anyone better; we really admire the work he's done in Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal and also the engineering efforts he's produced for Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, and Premonitions of War, among others. After we hit the studio, we plan to dominate the world once again and tour throughout the year. We will be playing a lot of new places including Europe. 2007 is going to be an exciting year for TTEOTD.
Poison The Well recently talked about what to expect from their forthcoming new album Versions, which is due out on April 3. Here's what band guitarist Ryan Primack had to say:
The songs are pretty open ended and there's a lot of unique instrumentation in the background throughout such as Mandolins, slide guitar, horns and banjo. This is not out of the blue, we actually started to add these elements to the last album but we didn't have time to flesh them out like with Versions. It's going to be a really different sounding album in hardcore, well as different as you can be in hardcore nowadays.

Listeners' Lounge
Strata have posted their new track "Cocaine (We're All Going To Hell)" online here. The song will arrive at radio on January 30 and is taken from the bands new album Strata Presents The End Of The World, which is set for a spring release. This is what they have to say:
Strata Presents The End Of The World is full of new directions and emotions. From song to song it's an intriguingly detailed snapshot of living life in these unique and mostly scary times, but there is always a glimmer of hope poking through - there's an optimism there all the time that reminds us that everything will be OK... somehow, we have to be OK.
Framing Hanley, formerly Embers Fade, have sent their first single to radio. A rough mix of the track can be streamed at this location. The band will begin recording their full length debut with Brett Hestla (Dark new Day, Faktion) next month.
Beneath The Sky's new track "A Grave Mistake" is available online here. The group's forthcoming new album What Demons Do To Saints is due out on January 23.
Mindless Self Indulgence have posted a new track entitled "Mark David Chapman" online here. The track was written as a result of various polls the band took online regarding what instruments to play, etc.
Black Light Burns (ex-Limp Bizkit/nine inch nails, etc.) have posted their entire track "Cruel Melody" online here. The song is expected to serve as the title track to the bands debut album, which will see a release once they resolve their current label situation, having parted ways with Geffen/Interscope last year.
Thoughts for the Week
Is 30 Seconds to Mars considering calling it quits? In an interview, front-man Jared Leto said, "We're talking about the possibilities of another record or the possibility of calling it something else and saying goodbye. You have to look at your life and see if you have anything else to say or to offer at that point.
The band will at least stick together through April to co-headline the Taste of Chaos Tour with The Used.
