The Slightly Slanted Music News 03.30.07
Posted by Jared McGuckin on 03.30.2007

I hate it when I talk shit about a band for years and then they release a good song. I came across Type O Negative's new single, I Don't Wanna Be Me. Goddamn that's a catchy song, it's been on a constant loop in my head for days. To make matters worse, the video is pretty damn funny. Of all the Type O stuff I've heard, I wasn't impressed with 99% of it; in fact, I found most of it pretty fuckin annoying. But if the new album is any good, someone let me know.

If you're like me and got sucked the internet social validation sensation that is myspace, be sure to add 411mania.com to your friends list.

Sometimes The News Just Writes Itself, But Most Of The Time I Have To Type It Out

Otep has parted ways with guitarist Karma Cheema, frontwoman Otep Shamaya had this to say: " Karma has decided to pursue other opportunities and we are happy to announce the new addition of Aaron on guitar. [Thursday night, March 22] was his first night with us and he did an amazing job. He is a true musical magi of the highest degree." With a name like "Karma Cheema", I'd want him out of the band too. Musicians pick the most dumbass stage names.

Scott Weiland has made the news again but he's not the one who's in trouble for a change. Weiland and more noteably his wife had a crazy weekend. It started with reports that the two had trashed a hotel room in Burbank in a heated argument. Later that night Weiland's wife, was arrested for setting fire to about $10,000 worth of the singer's clothes. In a statement made on Tuesday, Mary Weiland said,

"With regards to this past weekend's events, it's important to my husband and I that the reports regarding domestic violence, as well as our children's safety, contain facts and not speculation. The weekend's difficulties were brought on by a reaction to an imbalance in medications used to treat my bipolar disorder. Reports that we were fighting at the Graciela Hotel are untrue. Scott was simply trying to help calm me down. I want to make it very clear that he did not hurt me in any way. For lack of a better expression, I was unstable and just 'lost it.'

Payment for the damages to the Graciela Hotel has already been made. The gracious staff and management have accepted our apologies and welcome us back in the future. Most importantly, neither of our children were witness to any of these events and they have been in the care of a family member. Scott and I are very involved in our children's lives on a daily basis and we love them unconditionally. We appreciate all your concerns and how supportive people have been. After nearly seven years of marriage I am truly grateful to have a loving husband, drug-free for 3-1/2 years now, who is able to care for me during this challenging time.
We ask that you refer to this statement for the facts and depend on no other source."

Well there it is, how very Rock ‘N Roll.

In an odd pairing of faux shock rock and old school trash, Marilyn Manson will be teaming up with Slayer for a North American summer tour. The tour will begin on July 25 and go though 25 cities. There is no more info on this so far, but I'll have it for when it's available.

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has struck a deal with Etnies sneakers and are collaborating on a line of shoes called, Club Tattoo. The name comes from that no talents line of tattoo shops. You know what? I'm done reporting this story, all you need to know is that this asshole is making shoes now.

Thanatopsis – Anatomize

Any Last Words?

I've been so busy this week that I almost forgot about this week's column. But alas, I did not. Hopefully, when things die down a bit over here I'll be a little more coherent.

I'm outta this bitch!
