The Savage Animal 08.15.07: Anticipated Fall Albums
Posted by Mikey MiGo on 08.15.2007

I had a pretty good week. Last minute preproduction for the movie I'll be working on next week and a few shows.

On Friday I hit up Ozzfest. For the most part it was a let down. I won't sugar coat it when I say it was close to being a waste of time. Static X, Lordi, and Ozzy were the only things I saw that were worth while. I'm not a fan of the "growl-heads" and enjoy music with melody and singing. The parking was $20 so while tickets were free it cost $20 a carload to even get inside. Not horrible. The highlight was probably meeting WWE's Maria and hearing her drop a few f-bombs as she introduced the main stage and seeing a lot of people that I know and haven't seen in awhile.

I wore new shoes to Ozzfest so I was a bit sore, but we still went up to Chicago and filmed Fun Club's set at The Abbey. As always it was a great performance and they continue to secure their place in my favorites. They should have a new CD out in a few months and from the tracks they've played live already I can't wait.

Monday was my first Marilyn Manson concert thanks to a B-Day gift from Joe E. Reject. Slayer was also on the tour, but if you read two paragraphs up you'd know that it wasn't my cup of tea. Manson was exactly what I expected so I wasn't let down. My only gripe was some of my more mellow favorites like Coma White, Tourniquet, and stuff from Portrait of an American Family wasn't played. With a set list around an hour you gotta get in your new stuff and the bigger known hits so it's understandable. When he comes back around with a longer set I'll be there.

Now I'm going to be running around with my head cut off in preparation for the indy movie that I wrote and will direct, produce, and edit. That's obviously a lot to have on ones plate in a two week time period. So with that, I'll have to take the next two weeks off from The Savage Animal. Don't fret though; I'll be back with more randomness in no time.

ANTICIPATED FALL ALBUMS

Artist: Mindless Self Indulgence
Anticipated Release:Our Pain, Your Gain (DVD)
Release Date: 9/11/07
The 411:
In 2003 I had never heard of MSI before, but was asked to go to a concert. I was off work that day and it was at my favorite Chicago venue(The Metro) so I tagged along. What happened that night was one of those nights that being a music fan is all about. I was exposed to something fresh and new that completely blew my mind. Since then I've went out and bought all their CDs and listen to them more than 95% of my collection. At the same time, I've not missed a Chicagoland performance of MSI since that first taste. It's the most energetic concert experience you can have. I have friends who aren't fans of the studio work, but will go to a live show with me whenever they can. This is a live DVD shot over three nights in NYC that you'll want to pick up come the second Tuesday of September. I promise it'll give immense satisfaction and will be something you'll want to show your friends over and over again.

Artist: Ministry
Anticipated Release:The Last Sucker
Release Date: 9/18/07
The 411:
After 10 albums, the 11th will be the last for this Chicago based iconic Industrial group. Al Jourgensen recently confirmed this in an blurb on Billboard. Ministry is always an innovative monster when it comes to pure industrialized metal. The tracklist leaked and I'm looking forward to the Doors cover of "Roadhouse Blues". That should be very interesting. If you've ever been a fan of Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Static X, or any industrial influenced band then you'll want to pick to up.

Artist: Foo Fighters
Anticipated Release:Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace
Release Date: 9/25/07
The 411:
I've always been a casual fan of the Foo Fighters. They are an awesome group and mostly put out good rock songs that get stuck in your head. This is the follow up to "In Your Honor", but the cool thing is that they're going back to Gil Norton who produced "The Colour and The Shape" album. These are always quality albums and usually has at least two heavy rotation singles on them. It's hard to believe that Dave Grohl has been in this band and recorded more albums than he did with Nirvana. I'm happy with his evolution. How about you?

Artist: Kid Rock
Anticipated Release:Rock and Roll Jesus
Release Date: 10/9/07
The 411:
I've actually been wanting this for awhile. It's one of those weird, "you don't realize what you got until it's gone" situations. I've bought the Kid Rock CDs and enjoyed them back in the day. Now in retrospect I realize how talented he is and how good those albums were. It might not be John Lennon/change the world type of music, but it's good party much and down home rock like AC/DC, Aerosmith, etc. Kid Rock is pretty much the EXACT opposite of the emo wave that's out there. That's something I welcome with open arms. I am hoping this album turns out to be good, if not bad hair cuts and girl pants will continue it's spree of lameness.

Artist: Puscifer
Anticipated Release:V is For Vagina
Release Date: 10/30/07
The 411:
It's Maynard James Keenan, how can it not be awesome? Tool is obviously his baby and always will be, but his "side project" A Perfect Circle was just as great. Puscifier started off as a joke on Mr. Show with Bob and Dave and has slowly evolved into a music project and a clothing line. A few tracks have showed up here and there on soundtracks, but there hasn't been a studio release yet. We get it in late October with "V is for Vagina".

What album(or concert DVD) are YOU planning to spend your money on this fall?

MY "1408" REVIEW IN 1408 WORDS OR LESS
I am a huge advocate against the whole gore porn that's dominated the major horror releases over the past few years. Give me a suspenseful thriller any day of the week over that garbage. 1408 gave just that. Sam Jackson gave a great supporting performance as the hotel manager. And I think it's confirmed now that John Cusack is officially my favorite actor. I've always been a huge fan of his work from 80's Teen flicks to lesser known performances in the darkish-comedy "Tapeheads" and "Max". In his performance he basically got to use the immense amount of range he has at the flip of a switch. Also, we get what I consider to be one of the best Stephen King movies I've seen. I've not seen them all, but this one just rocked. Basically, it's a haunted room that keeps you contained in your own personal hell. Sorta like hell in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey and I don't mean that as a jab in the least bit. Either way you want to take it, I really enjoyed this movie. I am buying it when it comes out and I'm sure it'll have repeated viewings. If you haven't seen this yet, find the local cinema that's still fortunate to have this still rolling and watch it.

So with the next two weeks of you all being free of a Savage Animal to read you COULD check out the other fine columnist on this site. If you find any, let me know. I kid! I kid! 411mania has the best staff in cyberspace and if you didn't know that, you've been told! Okay, I have a movie to make… Until then, Have a Great Week!
