Dancing About Architecture 08.21.07
Posted by Ian Wright on 08.21.2007
Happy PJ Harvey, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen news; sad Radiohead news, Lily Allen, Ravers vs. the UK police, LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire to have offspring and more.
The bit at the start
Howdy. I've been sick for 5 days so I think I'm going to blast through this mofo faster than food went through my digestive system last week. Fridge on Thursday were alright, I was too ill to go to Dan Deacon and Slint were pretty great on Saturday, if you really need to know more I've got further thoughts on the blog I've been plugging the last 2 weeks.
By the way, I really hate Pink Floyd, I thought you should all know that.
Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.
Loose Fur – Loose Fur
Tweedy and O'Rourke together. How could it not be good?
The Dancing About Architecture MySpace band artist of the week.
It was a real case of assault on precinct 13 in Great Yarmouth, England on Saturday when a group of disappointed ravers laid siege to the town's Police Station following the breaking up of an "unlicensed music event".
The story began around noon on Saturday when police arrested 3 people in a van carrying sound equipment and then 200 police from around the region descended on the site of the planned rave on the Harfery Industrial Estate where 44 cars were seized. Following this the attack on the police station took place which resulted in 15 further arrests.
Chief Supernintendo Chalmers Bob Scully said: "We acted swiftly to control the situation and restore order.
"What occurred was entirely unacceptable and inexcusable.
"This was large scale anti-social behaviour and officers dealing with the incident were put at serious risk.
"It is behaviour that won't be tolerated."
According to the police 2 vehicles were damaged and officers narrowly avoided serious injuries.
To me it's pretty obvious where the coppers went wrong here, they should have waited for the ravers to take their pills before they broke the thing up. That way the only danger they were in was that they might have been hugged to death.
Hold me, I feel shakey.
It was a big week for great North American songwriters announcing new albums. Neil Young added another entry to his already formidable "coming soon" list (live albums, graphic novels, benefit shows) in the form of his newest studio album.
Titled Chrome Dreams II (inspired by a lost album from 1977 that didn't have a number after it) it features 3 older songs and 7 brand new ones. The new ones tend towards the lengthy side of things with one being 13 minutes long and another clocking in at 18:30.
The album will be out on Reprise but no one seems to know when.
BRRRUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCccccccccceeeeee.
Joining Young in the old guy putting out new album stakes is Bruce Springsteen who on October 2nd will release his new album, the follow up to last year's Seeger Sessions album, entitled Magic.
It will be the first time Springsteen has recorded with the E-Street band since 2002's The Rising and was produced by Brendan O'Brien at Atlanta's Southern Tracks Recording Studio. There's expected to be an extensive tour to follow the album which will most likely take up an 1/8th of your day if you go to one of the gigs.
Tracklisting:
01 Radio Nowhere
02 You'll Be Comin' Down
03 Livin' in the Future

05 Gypsy Biker
06 Girls in Their Summer Clothes

Did you know that Polly Harvey wrote to the address on the liner notes of Spiderland?
Apparently she did. Anyway, US release details for the upcoming White Chalk were announced last week.
The album will be out on September 25th, a day after the UK release on Island.
So there.
FUCK.
OK, I think you need to sit down for this.
There will not, I repeat NOT, be a new Radiohead album in 2007.
Try to hold yourself together.
Look on the bright side this fucking shitty, non new Radiohead album having year will be over in 4.5 months.
Vinyl Junkies rejoice.
Not only are Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem combining for a tour that is threatening to make the staff of Pitchfork drown in a room flooded with their own cum but the 2 bands are getting together to release a split 7". There's no release date set yet but what is known is that LCD Soundsystem will be covering Joy Division's "No Love Lost" and Montreal's finest's contribution to the piece of shellac is "Poupee de Cire, Poupee de Son" which was written by Serge Gainsbourg.
