Rock News of All You Newbs

The Smashing Pumpkins are in the studio recording new music. A release is expected early next year. That would mean that Corgan and company would release 2 albums less than one year apart, having released Zeitgeist in July of this year.

On March 11, The Presidents of the United States of America will release their new studio album These Are the Good Times People. The band will begin a world tour in March

Everyone's least favorite vocalist Scott Stapp has had charges for domestic assault dropped after undergoing anger management classes. The former Creed front-man was due to face trial in February in relation to a May incident, in which he is alleged to have thrown a bottle of carbonated drink Orangina at his wife Jaclyn's head, narrowly missing the former beauty queen. In her emergency call to Florida police, Jaclyn claimed Stapp had been high on marijuana and other drugs when he returned home from a night of wild partying. The felony assault charge was later reduced to a misdemeanour after Stapp agreed to undergo drug and alcohol testing as well as enroll in a 12-hour program to deal with his anger issues. Prosecutors canceled all charges against Stapp on Monday, after he completed the terms of their agreement. The news comes just days after Stapp was revealed to have rekindled his romance with Jaclyn, after working through problems in their marriage.

While Stapp may have narrowly avoided becoming someone's bitch, Velvet Revolver front-man Scott Weiland might not be so lucky. Weiland was formally charged Wednesday with driving under the influence of drugs and refusing a chemical test that is required by law. Weiland was arrested November 21st in Los Angeles and will be arraigned Thursday in a court in Van Nuys, California. Weiland faces a "maximum penalty of one year county jail and a $1,000 fine, and a minimum penalty eight days in jail," in light of his prior conviction and refusal to take a drug test, Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said in a statement.

Eight tracks from Radiohead's latest release In Rainbows are set to appear on a new remix album. Due out January 10, Rainydayz has been created by DJ and producer Amplive. The album includes remixes from a number of vocal contributions from Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Too Short and Zion.

Three Days Grace rank No. 1 on the 2007 Mediabase year end report in airplay across all rock formats (Modern Rock, Active Rock, Mainstream Rock) with their singles "Animal I've Become", "Pain" and "Never Too Late". Radio and Records/Billboard also rank the band No. 1 Active Rock Artist of the Year, No. 1 Rock Artist of the Year and No. 2 Modern Rock/Alternative Artist of the Year.

The Lostprophets currently have fourteen new songs finished for their next album and plan to record a few more once they reconvene from a break for the holidays. More on that can be found here.

Wind-Up Records and IMG Media have teamed up for the release of the soundtrack to ESPN/ESPN2 series "The World's Strongest Man":

01 - 12 Stones - "Adrenaline"
02 - Korn - "Hold On"

04 - Hatebreed - "Never Let It Die"
05 - Shadows Fall - "Redemption"
06 - Every Time I Die - "We'rewolf"
07 - Underoath - "Writing On The Walls"
08 - Submersed - "Better Think Again"

10 - Hurt - "Ten Ton Brick"
11 - Bruce Aronson - "Strongman" (The World's Strongest Man Theme)

The album will see a release exclusively through Amazon.com on December 18.

In addition to putting together a new Static-X album, band frontman Wayne Static has started a new side project dubbed Pighammer which will focus heavily on guest appearances.

The death last month of Kevin Dubrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been ruled an accidental cocaine overdose. Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause Monday, December 10 after toxicology results were received. Dubrow was found dead November 25 at his Las Vegas home. He was 52.

36 Crazyfists recently discussed their plans for their new album "The Tide And Its Takers" with MTV.com, you can check that out here. The effort will still be produced by band guitarist Steve Holt and sport a mix job by Andy Sneap (Machine Head, As I Lay Dying). However, as a result of the setback, the band also canceled their previous overseas touring plans, including their run with Bullet For My Valentine.

Anthrax have confirmed the addition of vocalist Dan Nelson, formerly of the band Devilsize. Writing for a new album is currently under-way with a 2008 release possible.

"We here at Taking Back Sunday just thought you might like to know what we've been up to. As is turns out…making new music. We have come from our separate corners of the country to write and rehearse in a top secret location in NYC. We are sitting on a half dozen hot, fresh new songs. I'm sorry, you may not hear them yet. This is just the beginning as, well, things still need to get in their right place. We are excited about what we are working on and most importantly we are having fun."
