Rock News of All You Newbs

Apparently, rock musicians want to become politicians, or at least, influence what goes on in Capital Hill. Nine Inch Nails front-man Trent Reznor recently "proposed" a tax added into the price of Internet service that will allow subscribers to download unlimited music and help compensate for the cost of illegal downloading. A similar tax has been proposed by the Songwriters Association of Canada. What about those that do not bootleg music, illegally? And then you'd have to compensate the software companies, as well, and then the movie industry…

Papa Roach has signed a new management deal with 10th Street Entertainment, home of Buckcherry, Sixx A.M. and Drowning Pool among others. The band is currently writing for their new album and will being recording soon. For the record, 10th Street Entertainment is the parent company of Eleven Seven Music.

Daughtry has announced that they already have 17 songs ready for their sophomore album and hope to complete writing this Spring. Chris Daughtry told gibson.com, "Some songs are coming out a little heavier than the last record, and some songs are just way more beautiful,"

Slipknot and Disturbed have officially been confirmed for the inaugural run of the "Rockstar Mayhem Tour" - a new annually-planned trek put together by Kevin Lyman and John Reese, the two behind the "Warped Tour" and "Taste Of Chaos Tour". Rumors of Five Finger Death Punch, Suicide Silence and Walls Of Jericho all taking part in the trek as well have been floating around. The tour is expected to run through July and August with more dates and bands to be announced soon. Slipknot will be touring in support of their as-yet untitled new album which is expected out in August, while Disturbed are on course to release their new album Indestructible in May.

Weezer guitarist Brian Bell recently posted an update on the band's upcoming-as-yet-untitled sixth album. The record has been the source of much speculation with little concrete information until now. Bell explained:

"Greetings fellow Weezer-ites. We'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years. And it's going to be a very happy one because album six is finished and personally I think it's our best yet. Never have the four of us worked so hard and passionately on an album and we all look forward to performing this culmination of our talents and combined knowledge in 2008 in a city near you!"

Deftones front-man Chino Moreno recently spoke with Kerrang! magazine about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's new album. When asked if the tensions within the band on their previous album were an issue this time around, he responded,

"There were lots of problems on the last album, definitely. The way we were working meant that communication in the band wasn't very strong. That's changed now that we've shifted our approach. Making that last record was seriously unhealthy experience."
As for how the band's members have improved their relationship, Moreno said, "Over the last few years, a lot of the band members have had a few problems — divorces, money problems, life — and it has just been an unhappy time. We've all come out of that now. I hate to talk like it's all rainbows and sunshine over here, but it is!"

Red has made the move from Essential Records to Epic Records. Both labels are apart of Sony BMG.

Oh, remember the big…shocker….from last week? Well, it happened again. Ill Nino's forthcoming new album Enigma has been bumped back once again, this time to a March 11 release date via Cement Shoes, which is quickly becoming the worst label on the planet..

Walls Of Jericho have set Redemption as the title to their upcoming acoustic-themed EP which was produced and features guest appearances by Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour fame. The effort is expected out this spring. Meanwhile, although not officially announced, it looks as though the release will not be bundled with a live DVD from the band as was initially stated.

3 Inches Of Blood are said to have recruited drummer Ash Pearson of Sound Of The Swarm/Just Cause fame to fill in for their ongoing tour with The Black Dahlia Murder, Hate Eternal and Decrepit Birth. Pearson replaces Alexei Rodriguez who was ejected from the band after he got in a physical altercation with Saxon drummer Nigel Glockler this past November.

Behemoth have inked a deal with Metal Blade for the North American territory and plan to have a new EP out through the label in the summer/fall, while they also plan to take to the road in North America this spring. In addition, the band has also inked a new deal with Nuclear Blast for the European territories.

Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins recently checked in with an update on the band's forthcoming album, confirming that they have finished recording fourteen songs for the effort, but plan to finish work on a few more before they are done. In turn, the album is now not expected out till the summer.

In Flames have chosen A Sense Of Purpose as the title to their new album which will see an April 4 release date overseas. A North American label/release date is still pending. In Flames have chosen their new track "The Mirror's Truth" to serve as the first single from their upcoming album A Sense Of Purpose. A single for the track will be issued in Europe on March 7 and will feature the following track listing:

01 - "The Mirror's Truth"
02 - "Eraser"
03 - "Tilt"
04 - "Abnegation"

It should be noted that the three backing tracks included on the single are non-album tracks.

Killwhitneydead. frontman Matt Rudzinski will be joining up with members of Jonin to record a cover of Corrosion Of Conformity's "Vote With A Bullet". The song will soon be made available online. Speaking on the collaboration, Rudzinski had the following to say:

"It's 2008 and another presidential election year, so it's time to get people active again. We have decided to cover a classic song (VOTE WITH A BULLET) by a classic NC metal band (CORROSION OF CONFORMITY). The goal is to get people active in our country's election process. We are not telling anyone who to vote for but more importantly show everyone we ALL must exercise our RIGHT to vote. We must use our voices and let them be heard or we could wind up in same position we have been in for the last 7 years, which as we all know has been miserable and quite embarassing as a nation. We are only musicians, but whatever we can do to help remedy the current state of affairs, we will do our part and we felt that covering this song was a good first step."

Mindless Self Indulgence have inked an exclusive licensing deal with The End Records for the North American release of their new album If. The effort will see an April 29 release date.

Unearth have set Alive From The Apocalypse as the title to their upcoming 2-DVD set which is now slated for a March 18 release date. One of the discs will center on the band's live performances while the other will focus on their history together as a band.

Meshuggah have confirmed a March 11 North American release date for their new album obZen.

Chimaira have tentative plans to hit Europe and Australia in the coming months. Exact details have yet to be announced. In other news, the bands guitarist's have each launched their own signature series guitar from ESP Guitars.

Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta has plans for two books in the works. You can look into details found here. Also, Hatebreed have confirmed their long-rumored split with Roadrunner Records to "Revolver" magazine. The band appears to have amicably left the label after being unhappy with the publicity push they were getting. According to the article, the band's current plans include a cover album consisting of their takes on tracks by the likes of Metallica, Crowbar, D.R.I., Cro-Mags and more. Also on deck is the band's long-in-the-works DVD release which they hope to have out in May/June.

Daath are scheduled to enter the studio on March 1 to begin recording their new album with producer Jason Suecof (Chimaira, Trivium). At present, the band is in the final stages of deciding upon on a new vocalist, though they are still accepting submissions from potential candidates for the slot.

God Forbid will begin recording their new album in March at Trax East with producer Eric Rachel (Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Dahlia Murder) at the helm. More on that and the bands forthcoming DVD release can be found here.

Roadrunner Records will be repackaging a number of catalogue albums from a variety of artists soon as part of a two for the price of one series. Scheduled for release on February 12 through the label are:

Led Zeppelin are finally set to meet up this month to discuss possible touring plans. Chevelle drummer Sam Loeffler told The Pulse of Radio that they've been working on new material at frontman Pete Loeffler's house since early December.

"We have, like, a writing studio at his house, which is great, because we're just able to just sit back, try ideas, and drink some booze at the bar, that kind of thing," he said. "When we actually get it sort of together, we'll go to our regular rehearsal studio and start to, like, lay down basically what would be demos."

The Fray have been working on pre-production on six songs in Denver with producer Mike Flynn who told Billboard.com recently that the new stuff is "incredible."

Through The Eyes Of The Dead look to once again be short a drummer with Josh Kulick heavily rumored to have exited the group.

Marilyn Manson has reunited with bassist Jeordie "Twiggy Ramirez" White for the band's previously-announced North American run which will kick off later this month. A posting on Marilyn Manson's official website www.marilynmanson.com reads as follows:

"The duo that started it all, are back together to finish where they left off. The two who co-wrote Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, and Hollywood will be sharing the stage once again. Joining Manson and Twiggy onstage for the U.S. leg of the Rape of the World Tour will be Chris Vrenna, Rob Holliday, and Ginger Fish. Tim Skold has amicably split with Manson, but future collaborations arent being ruled out between the two. Expectations for the upcoming tour are best described by quoting one of Manson's most infamous lyrics, "Everyone will suffer now". Looks like the shit is gonna hit the FANS."

Deaf Pedestrians will release their major label debut …And Other Distractions on February 12. The first single "Hail to the Geek" will hit radio on January 15 and can be streamed on the band's MySpace page.

Coldplay are set to leave their current record label EMI after a major takeover which has already driven out many major stars including Radiohead. The band have a five album deal with the company, and, after the release of their upcoming LP in the summer ‘08, they are reportedly planning on putting together a greatest hits CD in 2009 which will fulfill their obligations with EMI. A source tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "There's so much uncertainty in the record industry right now. The boys don't necessarily need a label any more."

Warning: Touring Updates May Lead To Spontaneous Moshing
