Rock News For All You Newbs
In a recent interview, Velvet Revolver front-man Scott Weiland said to be on the lookout for a Stone Temple Pilots re-union in the coming months. Weiland failed to show up for the band's scheduled performance at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT last Sunday. Sources close to the band stated that Weiland had missed his flight to the festival.
Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash has confirmed that Weiland will reunite with his STP band-mates for a handful of summer concerts. Slash also remarked that Revolver plans to begin work on the follow-up to last year's Libertad in April. Slash also hopes to begin work on a solo album this year.
Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan recently chatted about Scott Weiland's absence from the group's performance at Sundance, and the rumors of a reunion of STP. Here's what he had to say about missing the Festival"
"Why wasn't Scott there? Scott missed his plane. Yeah, let's say that, Scott missed his plane…"
When asked about STP getting back together, McKagan responded:
"That's the rumor that I've heard too. Good for him. You can't plan ahead in this thing and if you do, you're going to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love playing live and we love this band, but I don't have expectations any more. This is a great band and I'm proud to be a part of it, but it doesn't define me anymore."
Track listing for R.E.M.'s new album Accelerate has been confirmed. The band gets back to their "fast-paced rock roots" on the album which is due out on April 1. The first single "Supernatural Superserious" will be released in the coming weeks. Track listing includes:
1. "Living Well's the Best Revenge"
2. "Mansized Wreath"
3. "Supernatural Superserious"
4. "Hollow Man"
5. "Houston"
6. "Accelerate"
7. "Until the Day Is Done"
8. "Mr. Richards"
9. "Sing for the Submarine"
10. "Horse To Water"
11. "I'm Gonna DJ"
As expected, Story of the Year's new disc will carry the title The Black Swan. The album is set to be released on April 22. The first single "Wake Up" can be streamed here.
According to a post on the Sevendust fan message board the new Sevendust album Hope & Sorrow will include guest vocals from Chris Daughtry and Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy. The eleven track album is due out on April 1. The track listing has been revealed for Hope & Sorrow, as well. Here's how it runs:
As reported later in the column, the band is heavily rumored for this summer's "Rockstar Mayhem Tour" with Slipknot, Disturbed and more.
Norma Jean have tapped Chris Raines of Spitfire fame as their new drummer. As a result, the band issued the following statement on the matter:
"As you guys know, we have been in the process of finding a new drummer. So the past couple of months or so we have been playing shows, and writing songs with one of our good, long time friends playing drums. Its been a great experience and we are so happy to officially welcome Chris Raines into the family. Hes an awesome dude, and you have heard him play if you listen to the band SPITFIRE. And if you havent heard them, you should check em out. they got some new songs up.
By the way, we have been working on new a new record. and its been going so well. we couldnt be happier with how its coming along. we are really stoked on it and cant wait to get it out to you guys. thanks for all your support."
Dope have inked a deal with Koch for the release of their new album No Regrets, which will see a June 10th release date. The band now features former Twisted Method frontman Tripp Tribbet on bass/backing vocals and ex-Genitorturers drummer Angel Bartolotta. No Regrets will feature some guest guitar work from Zakk Wylde on the track "Addiction", which will serve as the first single from the release. A video for the aforementioned track is currently in the works.
The release of Metallica's ninth studio album looks to have been pushed back to a September release. Originally drummer Lars Ulrich said the album would be out in February which was later pushed back till April.
Blind Melon will release their first studio album in 13 years For My Friends on April 22. The first single from the album "Wishing Well" will be released to radio shortly.
From A Second Story Window have hit the studio to record their new album Conversations. A late spring/early summer release is expected.
Hoobastank have announced that they are currently finishing up the writing their fourth album and should be in the studio in late February.
Far-Less have parted ways with band bassist Joseph Powers and have replaced him with Brandon Hackler. A statement on the matter reads as follows:
"Joseph here. Just wanted to send out my first and only bulletin to the fans and friends of the band. As of the beginning of January, Far less will be moving forward without me. Over the holidays I came to some harsh realizations. After six years of amazingly hard work, and fun times to boot, its time for me to work just as hard finishing my degree in architecture. The band hasn't yet played a show without me, the first being this weekend. I'm sure that night it will all set in, and emotions will overwhelm me. After I call the guys 100 times that night, checking on the turnout, response, etc; I'll truly know I'm out. But don't worry, me leaving the band won't even be a hiccup. Our long time best friend Brandon Hackler will be taking the reigns...and not to make a musical pun; but I'm sure he won't miss a beat. Now to the meat of it all. After being in the business for this long, I want you kids to know how real the music industry is. We have been busting our asses for 5 years. We all left college, some members moved from other states, we left our family and loved ones, (some of us moved back in with our parents) at the chance to cross paths with you guys on the road. We've done a good bit of touring, recording, etc...and grown a lot musically. But there has been down-time. Every minute that our band has been home from the road we've all worked shitty jobs. Retail sales, fast food (including McDonalds), delivering pizzas, landscaping, substitute teaching, Stocking shelves, waiting tables, we've done it all. And we're thankful for every minute of these jobs. When we're home we work 40 plus hours a week, so that we can spend the money on food while we're on tour. For the past 4 years of touring we've never been able to make enough money to be self sustaining. It sucks."
The Autumn Offering have added former Cadaveryne drummer Brian Sculley to their line-up. He replaces former drummer Allen Royal, who exited the group earlier this month.
The Dillinger Escape Plan recently performed an acoustic version of their track "Horse Hunter", complete with its cameo from Brent Hinds of Mastodon, and plan to post video footage of it shortly. Here's what the band had to say about it:
"Brent Hinds from Mastodon came out a few days ago and we rocked a little pre show acoustic version of Horse Hunter but we're lazy and haven't put it up on youtube yet, so keep checking this blog and we'll link it sooner or later. I don't know what's better about it, the fact that it's the first time we've played that song in any capacity, or the fact that half of his face is covered in tattoos at this point."
Through The Eyes Of The Dead have confirmed the departure of frontman Nate Johnson and drummer Josh Kulick from their line-up. In turn, the band have recruited Lech, formerly of As Blood Runs Black, to fill in on drums for their upcoming tour with Throwdown, Soilwork and War Of Ages. Lou Tanis, formerly of On Paths Of Torment/Invocation Of Nehek, will be handling the vocals for the tour.
Children Of Bodom have set an April 15 North American release date for their new album Blooddrunk.
Trustkill is repackaging a number of their catalog albums as double gatefold 12" LP sets for a March 25 release date. Albums set to get the treatment are Poison The Well's Tear From The Red/The Opposite Of December, Walls Of Jericho's With Devils Amongst Us All/All Hail The Dead and Throwdown's Vendetta/Haymaker.
Whitesnake will celebrate their 30th anniversary by releasing, Good To Be Bad, their first studio album in a decade. The album will feature 11 new Whitesnake songs.
AFI have hit the studio to begin work on the follow-up to 2006's Decemberunderground. Guitarist Jade Puget writes online that the band is recording in the studio where many of their earlier albums were tracked, "currently working on new songs." He adds that AFI is feeling "very nostalgic" working on their old turf.
Warning: Touring Updates May Lead To Spontaneous Moshing
Sevendust are the latest rumored addition to the inaugural run of the "Rockstar Mayhem Tour". Even more rumors have begun to circulate regarding the inaugural run of the Tour. The tour, which will reportedly feature two stages, is presently confirmed to feature Slipknot and Disturbed. However, it is now rumored to also feature Machine Head and according to MTV.com, Mastodon and DragonForce. As was previously reported, other rumored artists for the tour include Five Finger Death Punch, Suicide Silence and Walls Of Jericho. The tour is expected to kick off in July and run through to August with more details to be made available in the coming weeks.
