Dancing About Architecture 01.29.08
Posted by Ian Wright on 01.29.2008

The bit at the start

It seems that every May and November a number of great bands roll through Dublin in quick succession and both my sleep patterns and wallet take a hammering during that period. This year May is going to be no different because in a 10 day period that month Yeasayer, The National (twice), Animal Collective, Sunset Rubdown, Broken Social Scene and Bruce Springsteen (thrice) will all be playing within an easy hour from my front door. Throw in 3 days of ATP in the middle and it's a prospective musical feast on a par with a small lunch at

my mind has gone blank. I can't think of a single morbidly obese famous person right now. Why did Brando have to die on me?

A nice complaint to have I guess. All the gigs, not the lack of fat celebs.

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.

Evangelicals – The Evening Descends.

A lovely mash-up of BSS, Animal Collective and Camera Obscura.

You news, you lose

A think I love Zooey Deschanel ... follow up.

She And Him, a.k.a. Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, have announced the details of their first record. Volume 1 is out on Merge (conveniently that's the label that Matt puts his own stuff out on) on March 18th.

Tracklisting:

01 Sentimental Heart
02 Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?
03 This Is Not a Test
04 Change Is Hard
05 I Thought I Saw Your Face Today
06 Take It Back
07 I Was Made for You
08 You Really Got a Hold on Me (Miracles cover)
09 Black Hole
10 Got Me
11 I Should Have Known Better (Beatles cover)

There's a song available on Merge's website. It's uhh, not bad.

Evil Urges.

That's the title of My Morning Jacket's follow up to 2005's Z. It's out on June 10th on ATO.

That's about all I have right now about it.

Another anniversary reissue.

Mogwai are currently working on the follow up to Mr. Beast with a tentative release set for the summer.

However before that (April) will see the reissue of 1997's Young Team (and Jesus, "With Portfolio" is one of the most unsettling pieces of music I've ever heard with headphones on, it had me in a foetal position by the time it was over) in Chemical Underground.

The reissue will feature a remastered version of the album as well as an additional 8 bonus tracks.

It's pretty much all shout items this week. Sorry.

Shakes head.

I was going to go see Sunset Rubdown on May 20th but instead I might just spend the day listening to Anywhere I Lay My Head which comes out on Atco that day. It's Scarlett Johansson's collection of 9 Tom Wait's covers and one original song.

Oh wow, this could be a really bad idea.

David Sitek of TV On The Radio, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Celebration's Sean Antanaitis and Ryan Sawyer of Stars Like Fleas are all involved. I don't know if they're going to help.

That's a pretty shit album title guys.

It's been ten years since Portishead put out their second record. Whatever they've been up to it hasn't been thinking up album titles because when they finally put out their third record on April 14th via Island it'll simply be called Third.
It's got 11 songs on it.

It lasts 49:13.

That's about it.
