Dancing About Architecture 02.05.08
Posted by Ian Wright on 02.05.2008

The bit at the start

Hello, so tired. So sore, so sick.

Hang on a sec while I slap on a fake smile and tear through this shit one more time.

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.

The Field - From Here We Go Sublime

Minimal techno par excellence.

You news, you lose

Good news for people who love Jim O'Rourke.

Arguably single American musician of the past 2 decades most blessed by genius Jim O'Rourke will see a number of his previous releases be reissued via Drag City on May 20th. 1991's Tamper and 2006's Osorezan will be reissued in their original formats sans remastering, extra tracks or bonus DVD.

Interesting idea.

Additionally Drag City's Streamline imprint will also be releasing Long Nights, "a double-disc release of pure drone that dates way, way back but is only now seeing the light of day." Oh man, I hope it's as good as that hour long hurdy gurdy drone piece that he previously released.

No serious, it's awesome.

Tracklistings:

Tamper:

01 Spirits Never Forgive
02 He Felt the Patient Memory of a Reluctant Sea
03 Ascend Through Unspoken Shadow

Osorezan:

01 Form of the Collapse If a Collapse Should Occur
02 All We Know So Far
03 In Addition

Long Nights:

01 Long Nights

Aww Thurston, no.

Yeah, yeah, Ian hates iTunes, you've heard it all before. The latest artist to disappoint me by putting out an exclusive EP on Satan's record store is one of my great musical heroes Thurston Moore.

So …

Terribly …

Disillusioned.

I may never love again.

The 9 track Live from SoHo went on line last week and takes songs from Moore's appearance at Apples SoHo store in New York last October when he along with Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, Chris Brokaw, Samara Lubelski, and Matt Heyner performed material from last year's Trees Outside The Academy as well as from Psychic Hearts, Moore first album.

Tracklisting:

01 Silver>Blue
02 Off Work
03 Fri/End
04 Never Day
05 Honest James
06 Trees Outside the Academy
07 Queen Bee and Her Pals
08 Feathers
09 Staring Statues

Forever.

That's what Islands are.

Apparently they've written at least 2 albums worth of material since they rather great Return To The Sea hit record shop shelves but there's been little sight nor sound of any follow up until late last week when a new song, "The Arm", appeared on the band's MySpace. It's from the forthcoming (at some point) Arms Way.

That's not much info I know. Here's some tour dates to pad things out …

Your still singing through your goddamn nose OR Another tour EP.

Colin Meloy is hitting the road on a solo tour throughout April and at the start of May and as seems to be his habit he's taking a tour only EP with him to sell. He's previously tackled a number of Morrissey songs for a tour only release but this time it's Sam Cooke that gets the treatment.

Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke:

01 Cupid
02 That's Where It's At
03 Summertime
04 Good Times
05 Bring It on Home to Me

Giving Lipp.

It's been a couple of years since Eliot Lipp released Tacoma Mockngbird into the wild. He's been busy though and has a brand new record ready to go. It's called The Outside and it'll be out on Mush on April 8th.

Tracklisting:

01 The Outside
02 Opening Ceremony
03 The Area
04 Best Friends
05 Baby Tank
06 Beyond the City
07 See What It's About
08 The Meaning
09 The Interlude
10 7 Mile Tunnel
11 The Machine and the Wind
12 It's Time to Leave

Still no US shows.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure they'll come.

My Bloody Valentine have added a number of gigs to their reformation itinerary, and by the looks of it Kevin Shields and co. have a grá for Scandinavia in the summer as they'll be playing Roskilde in Denmark as well as the I have to copy and paste the name of it Øya Festival in Norway in early August. In addition to those festival appearances there's a one night stand in Paris and a 5th London gig in June.

As it happens I booked my flights for the first night back in London last week and I've been thinking, it might take them a few shows to find their feet again and by seeing them on their first night back I could be seeing a substandard show. Fingers crossed.

The YouTube video of the week

Well done Leslie.

Writing under the influence

Without which this column would not have been possible:

Talk Radio

The bit at the end

So I watched the Superbowl last night. I've zero time for Tom Petty. Anyway, I was merely an interested neutral until Belichick challenged that punt play. I'm glad the Giants rammed it up his arse.

Urrrgh.

Semi permanent plug for my blog.
