Rock News For All You Newbs

Fresh off their double win at the Grammy's, The Foo Fighters are taking on the X-Men. The band has sued Marvel Comics over the use of two of their songs. The Foo Fighters claim that Marvel used "substantial excerpts" of "Best Of You" and "Free Me" in a trailer for the upcoming animated series Wolverine and the X-Men, without the band's permission.

Theory of a Deadman, Airbourne, Disciple, Endeverafter and Saliva are among the artists contributing to the latest WWE compilation WWE: The Music Vol. 8 which will be available at WWEShop.com on March 24. Theory of a Deadman contributed the theme song for Mr. McMahon, "No Chance in Hell". Disciple's "In the Middle of it Now" for Hawkins & Ryder, Airbourne's "Turn Up the Trouble" for Mr. Kennedy, Endeverafter's "No More Words" for Jeff Hardy and Saliva teams with Shinedown front-man Brent Smith for "Don't Question My Heart", the ECW theme song.

Black Light Burns have checked in with the following update:

"We're mixing the covers album during the last week of February. As soon as we're done with that, we're starting drum tracks on 15 new original songs for album number 2. I'm producing the second BLB record, so don't be surprised if you hear a lot less keyboard/programming and a lot MORE guitar/bass/drums. The new stuff is more aggressive on the whole than Cruel Melody was, with a sound that's similar to the production of the yet to be heard "Cover Your Heart and The Anvil Pants Odyssey". That being said, there are still some mellow moments, but they do not hold on for as long as they do on CM. The hope is to put the covers/dvd out by June and the next record out by November while getting a few tours in there too. We're working our asses off to make all this happen according to plan."

The Wallflowers vocalist Jakob Dylan will release his solo debut Seeing Things on May 13. The album was produced by Rick Rubin (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skipknot) and will include the following tracks:

1. "Evil Is Alive And Well"
2. "Valley Of The Low Sun"
3. "All Day And All Night"
4. "Everybody Pays As They Go"
5. "Will It Grow"
6. "I Told You I Couldn't Stop"
7. "War Is Kind"
8. "Something Good This Way Comes"
9. "On Up The Mountain"
10. "This End Of The Telescope"

The recently-reunited Filter are planning a tentative May 13 release date for their new album Anthems For The Damned. The track "Soldiers Of Misfortune" is expected to serve as the first single from the release, impact at radio on March 18.

The Deftones continue to write new material for their next album Eros and will officially begin tracking it in Sacramento, CA at the end of March with producer Terry Date (Soundgarden, Pantera) and engineer Scott Olson (Deftones, Unearth). A release later this year is planned.

Scars On Broadway, the new band featuring Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan of System Of A Down fame, recently sat down with MTV.com to discuss their upcoming debut effort, their touring plans and more. You can check that out here.

According to the games developer, three Nine Inch Nails songs will be made available this week as premium downloadable content for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the multi-platform videogame "Rock Band". Songs being offered up individually and as part of a three pack include the original master recordings of "March Of The Pigs", "The Collector" and "The Perfect Drug".

Atreyu will be releasing an expanded and enhanced version of their latest album "Lead Sails Paper Anchor" on April 22. A full listing of extra content for the new edition has yet to be announced.

Walls Of Jericho have dropped off of the impending "Bound By The Road Tour" with DevilDriver, Napalm Death, 36 Crazyfists and Invitro. The departure allegedly comes as a result of the band having their touring support pulled. A replacement for them is currently being sought. However, the band's label Trustkill has said that departure comes as a result of the band planning to push up their recording sessions for their new album. Walls Of Jericho have checked in with the following statement confirming their departure:

"Hello everyone. We are sorry to have to announce that we will be unable to do our upcoming tour with DevilDriver, Napalm Death, 36 Crazyfists, and Invitro. We can honestly say that it is a huge disappointment on our end. This has been a tour that we have been extremely excited about and looking forward to for several months and to back out was very tough for us. However our label (Trustkill Records) has decided to pull tour support funding for this tour as they feel finishing our next record is the number one priority. Our management and label both feel that we need to be writing our new record in preparation for a spring recording and with this tour we just don't have enough time to accomplish all things. With that said the decision has been handed down and we are forced to cancel. However, this will ensure a summer/late summer release for our new as yet untitled full length record which we have been working very hard on as of late and should turn out to be nothing short of incredible. The extra time devoted to this record is going to pay off big time and we should be able to come out with a record we can truely be proud of and excited about. We would like to apologize to all the bands on this tour for pulling out so late and we would like to also apologize to all the people who were looking forward to seeing us in the next few weeks."

At present the group is set to release an acoustic-themed EP dubbed Redemption in the spring. It was produced by Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour fame, who also guests on the effort.

Underoath have tapped Matt Goldman (Underoath, As Cities Burn) and Killswitch Engage's Adam Dutkiewicz to helm their new album which they will begin recording in a month. At present the band have 8 songs written for the outing with more on the way. Live is scheduled for a May 13 release date.

Bury Your Dead have released an official statement on last weekend's "assault" in Milwaukee, WI.:

"On Saturday night, February 16th, guitarist Eric Ellis was a victim of a random attack by 6 individuals following the band's set at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. Eric was held at gunpoint while the men hit him multiple times with a baseball bat and hammer. Previous reports of a robbery are false, as the Milwaukee police department has classified it as a "gang initiation". Despite suffering what others would consider serious injuries Eric and the rest of Bury Your Dead will move forward and continue with their tour alongside Hellyeah and take that into their headlining run with Emmure, The Warriors, and With Blood Comes Cleansing."

In other news, the track listing has been confirmed for the band's new self-titled album:

01 - "Sympathy Orchestra"
02 - "Disposably Yours"
03 - "Fever Dream"
04 - "Infidels Hymn"
05 - "Angel With A Dirty Face"
06 - "Hands To Hide The Shame"
07 - "Wombdisease"
08 - "A Devils Ransom"
09 - "Dust To Dust"
10 - "Fools Gold"
11 - "Year One"

The effort will see a March 18 release date.

The Sword will be releasing a 10" picture disc for their new track "Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians" on March 18. The effort will be backed with the b-side track "Codex Corvidae". "Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians" will appear on the band's forthcoming new album Gods Of The Earth, which will see an April 1 release date.

HORSE the band have parted ways with their drummer Chris Prophet and have given the following statement on the matter:

"We are also pleased to announce that Christopher Lyle Prophet has left HORSE the band and has given a statement to the press outside of his West Hills home this morning, saying the decision to leave came after two other decisions were made up in his mind; the decision to "pursue other interests" and also the decision to have "cereal for breakfast". Ironically, replacing Mr. Prophet on this tour exclusively will be Mr. Jon Karel, drummer of the Number 12 Looks Like You. We have released this statement to the press: "Mr. Karel is probably like one of the top 10 drummers who has ever lived. It is thus fitting that he should now choose to play with HORSE the band. We are very grateful to him for agreeing to go on the hellish nightmare experience of seeing the world for free with us. We wish Mr. Prophet future endeavors, in general."

At present the band is moving ahead with their plans to embark on a completely DIY tour of the world throughout the year. The band are also hoping to get on this summer's "Warped Tour", a feat which they had the following to say about:

"Leg 2 will include all of North and Central America and will take place this summer, hopefully for the most part on Warped Tour (if Kevin Lyman can fit us in somewhere, evidently it's "full" but a few tens of thousands of emails, bribery, and straight-up blackmail could reveal an previously overlooked opening). If not we start picking off uni-haircut bands with colorful, whimsical ads in the first 30-40 pages of AP. No one will notice they're gone anyway. We'll definitely be hitting the US, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama at least."

Furthermore, the group will also be playing 3 weeks in Brazil in the fall as part of the "Vans Zona Punk Tour", followed by more South American shows to be announced.

Mindless Self Indulgence will be releasing a six track remix effort for their new track "Never Wanted To Dance" through The End on March 18. Dubbed Never Wanted To Dance: The Remixes, the outing will feature remixes done by producer Ulrich Wild, Combichrist, The Birthday Massacre and more. The song itself is expected to appear on the band's upcoming new album If, which will see an April 29 release.

Shadows Fall will be reissuing their first Century Media release Of One Blood on April 15. The new version of the outing will sport a new mix and mastering job done by producer Zeuss (Shadows Fall, Hatebreed).

Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins is guest-singing on the new single from The Blackout entitled "It's High Tide Baby!". The effort will be released overseas on February 25. The track itself can be checked out here.

Motley Crue are eying a July 8 release for their new studio album tentatively titled The Dirt. The first single from the album is expected to be released to radio on May 7.

Adema have announced they will be going on hiatus while the members pursue other projects. In a MySpace blog, bassist Dave DeRoo stated that all is well within the band and the break is needed to regroup and deal with the business aspects of the band.

AC/DC are planning to hit the studio on March 1 to record a new album which will end an eight-year recording drought. The band expects to hit the road following the release to support the new album.

U2 have hit the studio to continue work on their next studio album with longtime collaborators Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. There's no projected release date yet for the new material.

Listen Up and Listen Loud!

Silent Drive have posted a remixed and reworked version of their new track "Mexican Standoff" online here. The new version of the song also sports completely re-recorded vocals.

When November Falls (ex-Cold) have posted an unmixed version of their new track "Questions" online here. The band is expected to release their I AM: Wolfpack debut The Series Of Emotion later this year.

Danko Jones have streamed their entire new album, Never Too Loud, on their MySpace. The album, which is due out March 18, was recorded with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Stone Sour, Velvet Revolver).

Disciple have added a new track titled "In the Middle Now" to their MySpace player. The track was recorded as a theme song for the WWE.

3 Doors Down's new single "It's Not My Time" can be purchased via iTunes. Their new self-titled album is due out on May 6.

P.O.D.'s new single "Addicted" is now available on iTunes. The track will be released to radio on March 11. This track is probably one of the worst songs I have heard in a long time.
