Loop Diggin' Thursdays, 3.13.08.: Don't drop the soap, P!
Posted by Phil Watts, Jr on 03.13.2008
Prodigy is on his was to prison...and what does he give us as a going-away present? ONE MASSIVE, EYE-PIERCING, HEADACHE-INDUCING BLOCK OF TEXT---IN ALL CAPS!!! Plus: Kool Moe Dee, and Bad vs. Evil vs. Premier!
Before I get started, I want to clarify something…
These past few months haven't been very kind to me. As if the work problems and financial problems aren't enough, I've been sick most of the time and the increasing problems with my eyes. Now, it's getting to the point where I have to force my eyes to focus sometimes. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some help as far as that goes pretty soon.
I would like to take this time to thank Patrick Robinson (The 37th Chamber). There was once a time when I was the only one talking about Hip-Hop in this site. He also touches on today's R&B, making him a much bigger man than I am, since I wouldn't touch that shit with a 10 foot pole. So if you're sick and tired of waiting on my ass, check his stuff out.

Prodigy.
Sometimes, I just can't figure this fool out. Just when you thought that he's on the road to recovery, he either says or does something completely stupid. Despite his absolutely terrible track record when it comes to beef, he learns absolutely nothing and keeps coming back for more. Just like Saigon said a while back, P could actually go out and kill someone, and people will see through it as a failed attempt at trying to rebuild his 'street cred'. Musicwise, P has been suffering for years because of his deteriorating mic skills to the point where he forgets to make some of his verses RHYME. In fact, the only thing keeping his career as an artist afloat is The Alchemist, who is the only one who could bring out the best in him, as last year's RETURN OF THE MAC shows. It will be a safe bet that the best songs on P's upcoming HNIC 2 will be ALC tracks as well.
As of this writing, P is making his ‘up-north trip' over as dumb-ass gun charge from years ago…but not without making videos and writing a MASSIVE BLOCK OF TEXT (IN ALL CAPS) on his blog calling out as many people as possible, some of whom have made him look like a chump over the years. Now, I was thinking about cutting it down to just the highlights, but considering my waning eyesight and my allergic reaction to bullshit, I just couldn't bring myself to sift through it. There is so much wrong in this massive block of ALLCAPS that it'll take forever to narrow it down. So you know what? I am posting his entire rant---worts and all!
WARNING: The following is guaranteed to make your eyes bleed and make blood shoot out of your nose. 411mania is not responsible for the physical and psychological effects this rant will have on those that attempt to read it. Reader discretion (as well as some duct tape and Advil) is advised…
You ready?
Here's your last warning…
Okay---YOU ASKED FOR IT!!!

LISTEN REAL RAP MUSIC AND THE PEOPLE WHO CREATE IT IS A VERY SMALL CIRCLE OF PEOPLE. RAP IS BLACK HOOD MUSIC FOR THE HOOD, BY THE HOOD. WE LET EMINEM IN CAUSE HE GETS BUSY AND DRE CO-SINGED HIM BUT EVER SINCE EM IT SEEMS THAT WHITE PEOPLE/BLACK OREOS FEEL THEY CAN DICTATE WHERE THIS THING IS GOING. NA, YOU CANT. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO GONNA CALL SHOTS HERE ARE THE ONES ON THE FRONT LINES, THE ONES WHO CONTROL THE FRONT LINES. WE CONTROL THIS MUSIC AND IT'S DIRECTION. NOT HOW MANY MIC's IN THE SOURCE, NOT HOW MY X's OR L's in THE XXL, NOT VIBE, NOT RADIO, MTV OR B.E.T. OR 99% OF THESE WEB SITES. THEY ALL ACT AS IF AND WISH THEY COULD DICTATE WHAT WE DO AND WHERE IT's GOING BUT THE PEOPLE THAT WRITE AND PROGRAM ALL THAT BULLSHIT DONT KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WHERE I STOMP MY FEET. THEY DONT HAVE THE SLIGHTEST IDEA OF WHATS HAPPENING. NOT EVEN A LIGHTBULB THOUGHT. THE ONLY THING THOSE PEOPLE FEAR OR RESPECT IS VIOLENCE. BUT I FEEL LIKE 50, NA YOU NOT GONNA HAVE ME MURK 15 NIGGAS TO PROVE A POINT JUST SO YOU CAN GET THE NEXT BIG STORY IN YA MAGAZINE, T.V. SHOW OR WEB SITE,...................... NA, IM FIT TA KILL THESE NIGGAS WITH THIS MUSIC...... BUT WHEN YOU ACT UP DONT BE SUPRISED WHEN YOU GET SPANKED.......................JUST CAUSE YOU GOT A BIG CHAIN, A WATCH, SOME RINGS AND YOU DRESS ,LOOK, AND TALK LIKE ONE A US DONT MEAN YOU SHOULD HAVE A ALBUM AND VIDEO OUT. YEAH RAP MUSIC IS A NEW WAY OUT THE POVERTY IN THE HOOD BUT NOT FOR ANY AND EVERYBODY! RAP IS NOT THE NBA, IT'S NOT THE WWF, ITS NOT BOXING, IT'S NOT A MILITARY WAR AND IT MIGHT REMIND YOU OF BUT IT'S NOT THE CRACK GAME. RAP MUSIC IS JUST MUSIC BY A SMALL CIRCLE IN THE HOOD FOR THE HOOD AND WILL END WITH THE HOOD. WE MAKE THE RULES AND GOVERN IT. SO WHEN YA SHIT IS WACK YOU GONNA GET CALLED OUT AND EXPOSED FOR BEING A FRAUD TRYING TO DO WHAT THE SMALL CIRCLE OF PROFESSIONALS DO. 50 BOUT TO BE THE FIRST RAP BILLIONARE ON TOP OF BEING ONE OF THE BEST SONG WRITERS EVER,,PRODIGY JUST PLAIN AND SIMPLY, NOW AND FOREVERLY DOPE...... SO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS FIND ANOTHER JOB. IT'S 2008 NOT ONLY UPS BUT DHL AND FED EX IS HIRING........... CAN I GET WITNESS? SOMEBODY PLEASE.......

Phonte of Little Brother (who got dissed about halfway through) responded by saying what is pretty much on the minds of everyone who attempted to read the above block of text:
Have fun in the clink, P. Considering your track record when it comes to beef, I'd be REALLY careful with that bar of soap if I were you.
By the way, P had better have ALC doing at least 80-90% of the beats in HNIC PART 2 when it comes out. Anything to make up for killing my eyesight. Moron.

The wonderful people at UnKut.com have been running a series about Kool Moe Dee over the past few weeks. When most people think of Moe Dee, they always think "LL VICTIM" and nothing more. Today's rap fans have absolutely no idea of what a monster this man was. Moe Dee, both as a soloist and as 1/3 of the Treacherous 3, was one of the most influential MC's in Hip-Hop. The Treacherous 3 were one of the earliest groups to introduce the unorthodox, multi-syllabic rhyme style that many of today's MC's base their careers on. On top of that, it's a marvel to witness Kool Moe Dee lyrically MURDERING Busy Bee on stage and taking over the whole show. Moe ripped it so hard that you wouldn't notice that this shit happened in 1981!
However, once Moe started getting some fame, he made the mistake of hooking up with Teddy Riley, hot off of introducing the New Jack Swing into R&B. Yeah, Moe got a few Gold plaques out of the deal and some short term cash flow, but that was the end of his days as a lyrical monster. It was around this time when lots of MC's started getting at him, from Detroit's Awesome Dre, Spyder D, and even Kool Keith (who really got at him). Then there's the infamous Moe Dee/LL battle. At first, I was like everyone else and rooted for LL simply because I thought Moe Dee's Teddy-produced shit was mad CORNY. But after listening to all the songs years later, Moe D lyrically slaughtered LL TWICE, but was ruined by weak production (but then again, how can anyone ever sound hard over a Teddy Riley track?) Meanwhile, while LL was still vicious back then, his disses weren't nearly as potent as KMD's was…but with such producers like MARLEY MARL behind him, he couldn't do wrong. It's the classic rule that still stands today: Strong beats will make a dope MC that much stronger and make weak/mediocre MC's listenable…while a weak beat will kill anyone's chances--just like it did Kool Moe Dee.
After hearing Kool Keith's disses toward Moe Dee, I would've loved to see those two go at it instead of with LL, with the student verses the teacher. Out of all the people the stepped to KMD, Kool Keith hit the hardest, in my opinion.
So go to UnKut.com and read up on this and other bits of forgotten Hip-Hop history. They have a lot of interesting stuff over there.

BREAKING: Eminem And Royce Da 5'9" Squash Beef
March 12th, 2008 | Author: Paul W Arnold
Detroit's two most prominent emcees, Royce Da 5'9" and Eminem, have officially resolved their longstanding differences.
"I been talking to Em," Royce revealed to HipHopDX.com exclusively today. "I didn't even really wanna tell nobody [yet]. That was kinda like a secret thing. I don't really know where it's gonna go. Right now we're just really focusing on repairing the friendship. That's the most important thing to me."
And what did the two old friends discuss in their first conversation in years? Not music, says Royce, "We just been talking about intangible shit like movies, our favorite movies, just realizing how much shit we always had in common. That first conversation we had we talked for like two hours, just about everything. We did a lot of catching up."
What the two original "Renegades" have rumored to have newly in common is a reunion track produced by DJ Premier, but Royce explains that a new recording session between the two has yet to take place. "We haven't really spoken in-depth [yet] about anything creative," says Royce. "That session hasn't happened yet. He told me he had some of the best shit recorded right now that he's ever done in his life. I ain't even got a chance to get with him to hear it yet. He ain't heard what I got [new], and I ain't heard what he got [new]. That's kinda like what our friendship is, it's always been real competitive. It's always been that we motivate each other. And I think we at a point in our careers where we both need that."
Em and Royce's long overdue reconciliation was ironically initiated by one of Slim Shady's newest rhyme partners taking shots at one of his oldest. "The Cashis thing was like a blessing," says Royce of the recently released video interview wherein which Cashis threatens Royce over alleged insults made about Eminem. "That [situation] is what got me and Em [back] together. That's why I didn't really [address Cashis' comments]. He was just talking, not knowing who he talking about. I wasn't gonna move [on him] until I found out what Em's thoughts were [on the situation]. We done been through too much."
Royce's current feelings about Eminem's newest protégé are thankfully all positive. "My thoughts on Cashis is I don't have no problem with him," says Royce. "I think he felt he was doing good. He felt like he was ridin' for Em. But I'm just glad it didn't get to [be beef]. So if I see Cashis, I'll show him nothing but love because Em vouched for him. He told me that Cashis said he was sorry, and I can't really say nothing after that."
Since squashing that potential beef via his reconciliation with Eminem, Royce has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on his highly anticipated next mixtape, The Bar Exam 2, hosted by Green Lantern, as well as his two forthcoming full-length releases, The Revival and Street Hop, both executive produced by DJ Premier. With all that on deck, Royce is sure to be a force to be reckoned with in '08. "Trust me, man, it's ‘bout to be crazy," he aptly notes. "I'ma call [Eminem] today. I'ma stay on him and once we past… As soon as the creative part gets back into our relationship, I don't know what's gonna happen. I felt like I never had beef with him. It was more of a falling out between two brothers. It was just two brothers not speaking to each other for a minute. But now we speaking again. So sky's the limit on what's gonna happen from there."
---and to add to this, Eminem is about work with Premier on a song called "Keys to the City".
Will Royce finally bring us an album that truly showcases his talent? Will Eminem finally remind people of the MC that he once was and convince us to buy a record from him again? And ultimately, will this all actually come out?
Let's all keep our fingers crossed, people…

lol i get a lil defensive about Little Brother... P lost.

You know what I love? P's whole "You never sold records or had success like me so you can't say shit about me" additude. That's like saying "You've never been President of the United States, so you can't say shit about Bush!"
Tru Life didn't need a hit album to make P strip naked (true story--P really did get robbed by him), Saigon didn't need a hit album in order to waltz around P's boys and punch him in the face on stage, and Phonte didn't need a hit album to point out that Mobb Deep's G-Unit-sponsered flop would eventually cause them to lose fans (which it DID)!
It's hilarious to watch P get owned by all the people he talks shit about.
