In what appeared to be a relatively quiet April Fools' Day, the only notable prank I saw was Google's time one. And even in the music world, things were quiet this year. No bands breaking up, no fake Chinese Democracy release dates.
However, one New Zealand-based radio station really fucked up their prank. They forced to apologize after it went horribly wrong. The station alleged that the Foo Fighters would be playing a secret acoustic show. Expecting 50 or so listeners to turn up, The Rock FM planned on playing the new Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace on repeat for the assembled throng as part of their April Fool's day prank. However, several thousand people nationwide booked the day off work, some even booking flights, to attend.
"It caused absolute carnage," admitted the station's programme director Brad King. "I arrived back in the country today after a week long holiday and heard of the announcement. This is an April Fools' gag, dreamed up by our over enthusiastic promotions department and was completely untrue."
"On behalf of The Rock I sincerely apologise for this misinformation. Contracts have been terminated, and heads have rolled. This is what happens when fools plan April Fools' jokes."
Some people are considering filing for damages because of a missed day of work. What a fucking joke.
Gwen Stefani revealed this week that No Doubt are in the studio working on their first record in seven years. No Doubt's management said the album will be produced by Mark "Spike" Stent (U2, Oasis) and is expected out in the first half of 2009, with an extensive tour to follow.
Velvet Revolver has announced that they are splitting with singer Scott Weiland, citing his "increasingly erratic" behavior.
"This band is all about its fans and its music, and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," Slash was quoted as saying. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."
Weiland fired back at his former band-mates, saying,
"I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun… at times, but let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member, no need to mention his name). Personally speaking, I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life, people who have always had my back. This also speaks to my commitment to my music and my fellow band mates in STP and to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang."
Weiland went on to add that he believes Sebastian Bach would be "fantastic" replacement. More on STP in the touring section.
Korn will be releasing their new live DVD Live At Montreux 2004 on May 13. The outing captures a set the band performed in Montreux, SWI on July 05th, 2004 and is expected to feature the following track listing:
01 - "Right Now"
02 - "Break Some Off"
03 - "Got The Life"
04 - "Here To Stay"
05 - "Falling Away From Me"
06 - "Blind"
07 - "Shoots & Ladders"/"One"/"Freak On A Leash"
08 - "A.D.I.D.A.S."/"Dead Bodies Everywhere"
09 - "Did My Time"
10 - "Another Brick in the Wall"/"Goodbye Cruel World"
11 - "Faget"
12 - "Somebody Someone"
13 - "Y'all Want A Single"

Dark new Day drummer Will Hunt has posted a new blog on his band's MySpace concerning the band's developing saga:
"Ok, so does this news about Clint really suprise anyone? None of this has been easy, so there is no one to fault here. There is so much I want to say, so many things I wish people knew, and at the end of the day would it change anything? No. Not a thing, including the fact that this record WILL COME OUT, and a lot sooner than you think. This "news" DOES NOT change that fact because we, Dark new Day, owe it to you, our closest friends, to get this music to you, and so help us God, if it f*cking kills us, thats what will happen. As we figure out the whats and the hows of how this is all going to happen in the coming days/weeks, we will keep you informed and in the loop as it unfolds. There should be another new song up in the next couple of days for you to check out and we hope everyone likes it as much as you've enjoyed "Goodbye". As for Clint, best of luck to you and the Sevendust camp, and take care of each other out there. Stay Tuned…this sh*t is gonna get interesting.-Will
Weezer have set June 17th as the release date for their upcoming new, self-titled, album. This is the bands third self-titled album, following their 1994 debut and their 2001 comeback album. The album will be their Red Album.
Gavin Rossdale's new solo album Wanderlust will now see a June 3 release. The first single "Love Remains the Same" will be released to iTunes tomorrow, April 1st, and to radio on April 14.
Avenged Sevenfold will be recording their April 10 show at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, CA for an upcoming live DVD due out near this year's end. In addition, the band will be filming a video for their track "Dear God", complete with a choir of fans, during the performance as well. Avenged Sevenfold's forthcoming live DVD will feature a bonus CD which sports seven previously-unreleased b-sides recorded during the sessions for the band's latest self-titled album.
Thursday is currently in the studio recording new material for a new 12"/CD split release with Envy. The effort will see both formats packaged together when it sees a release in September/October of this year.
Trivium are nearly done pre-production for their new album which they will soon begin recording with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Shadows Fall, Stone Sour). A release later this year is expected.
Buckethead's Enter The Chicken will be re-released through Serjical Strike on April 8. The new version of the effort will feature a bonus track by the name of "Shen Chi".
Norma Jean have entered the studio to begin recording their new album The Anti Mother and will spend today doing last minute pre-production before starting the full-fledged recording process later this week.
Misery Signals have set Controller as the title to their new album which was produced and mixed by Devin Townsend of Strapping Young Lad fame. The effort is expected out on July 22.
Radiohead have reportedly returned to the studio to begin work on their upcoming new album just three months after the release of their latest In Rainbows. Warning: Touring Updates May Lead To Spontaneous Moshing
Stone Temple Pilots are reportedly planning a 50-date summer tour. The band will be holding a press conference on April 7 (today) where they are expected to announce the tour which will be produced by Live Nation.
Metallica has announced their second U.S. tour date this year performing for Tucson's KFMA Day on May 16. The only other date so far is at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN on June 13th. As for the band's upcoming new album, drummer Lars Ulrich spoke to BBC 6 Music earlier this month and said, "We're just finishing up a record, we've got six weeks left and it should be out in September. That's the idea right now."
MTV's "Metal File" recently chipped in with the rumors they've heard surrounding this year's "Ozzfest":
"We've heard virtually nothing - at least nothing official - about this year's Ozzfest, including whether there will even be one this year. But it seems Ozzfest's organizers are close to making an announcement, and within the next couple of weeks, all will be revealed. Metal File can tell you what rumors we've come across, besides the one that has Ozzfest morphing into a two-day fest in Dallas: We've heard this year's edition could feature Korn, Alice in Chains, Filter, System of a Down's Serj Tankian, Bullet for My Valentine, Killswitch Engage, Dimmu Borgir and even the Cavalera Conspiracy (Max says he hasn't heard anything about Ozzfest). But we've heard all sorts of crazy rumors, so who knows? ..."
As previously reported an official statement regarding this year's edition of the festival will be made soon.
Every Time I Die have signed on for the international leg of this year's "Taste Of Chaos" trek which will kick off later this year. Further details on the tour have yet to be revealed.
