Dancing About Architecture 05.06.08

The bit at the start

Hello there. As may already be aware, I am not Ian Wright. My name is Adam Tool and I currently write The Fightin' Stance News in the MMA zone here at 411mania. You're here with me on a glorious day, as I make my debut in the Music zone. I can actually feel your excitement radiating through your computer.

Ian and I actually have quite a bit in common. He lives in Ireland and I live in Iowa. He's a huge fan of soccer (or football as he would call it), and I've never watched a soccer match in my life. He has a one-man musical project, and I don't know how to play any instruments.

Okay so we're nothing alike. We do share a taste for all the good music that can't be classified as mainstream, so with that in mind, let's do this thing.

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album

Rock Plaza Central - Are We Not Horses

Photobucket

A concept album about mechanical horses that think they are real horses. The band describes their style as "Canadicana."

You news, you lose

Presents from Canada

Photobucket

While the world patiently waits for a new Broken Social Scene album, the band members are staying busy with solo and side projects. Now there is a release date for the next Broken Social Scene Presents… release, this time coming from Scene co-founder Brendan Canning.

The album is called Something For All Of Us…, and it will be released in North America on July 22nd. Like the previous entry in the Presents… series from Kevin Drew, the album will feature a variety of BSS members in cameo appearances, including Drew himself, Amy Millan (who is also a member of Stars), Justin Peroff, Andrew Whiteman, and Ohad Benchetrit. Also appearing will be fellow indie-Canucks like Jason Collett, James Shaw of Metric, Liam O'Neil from The Stills, and Apostle of Hustle's Lisa Lobsinger (who will duet with Canning on a tune called "Antique Bull").

If you're the kind of person that needs to know the names of songs before you hear them, then please to enjoy the Something For All Of Us… track listing

01 Something for All of Us
02 Chameleon
03 Hit the Wall
04 Snowballs & Icicles
05 Churches Under the Stairs
06 Love Is New
07 Antique Bull
08 All the Best Wooden Toys Are Made in Germany
09 Been at It So Long
10 Possible Grenade
11 Take Care, Look Up

The nails are free

First it was Radiohead that decided they didn't want to do things the same, old fashioned way. The band made the decision to literally give their music away, or fans could pay what they wanted. Trent Reznor liked the idea so much he tried something similar with his instrumental release Ghosts I-IV. Now he's gone one step further.

If you go to the official Nine Inch Nails website you can download the band's new album The Slip for free. It's absolutely free, there's no option whatsoever where you can give the band your money. Like Ghosts the album is being released under the Creative Commons attribution-noncommercial share alike license, meaning you can do pretty much whatever you want with the music (as long as you don't get any money for it).

According to the website the album is being given away, "as a thank you to our fans for your continued support." Especially the fans that felt the need to track down and collect all 26 Halo's.

If for some reason you are unable to download the record, a physical release will be in stores in July.

Do you remember?

Photobucket

Sometimes I wish my sister and I were a successful indie-rock group that got to release new albums every other week and tour relentlessly. But then I remember that this is an honor bestowed on a chosen few, like Matt and Eleanor Friedburger, better known to the world as The Fiery Furnaces.

That's the cover of Remember, the new double live album from the Furnaces that's scheduled to hit stores on August 19th. In addition to the new release the famile Friedburger will be hitting the road for a tour that includes their first visit to my hometown of Des Moines. This is happy news for me indeed.

The tour will also be the next phase in the band's Democ-Rock campaign, where fans are encouraged to take any piece of paper that happens to be on their person, and put it in the "ballot box" on stage where it could be used to help write a new tune, or simply suggest the next one played in the setlist. Tour dates are below, come out and have your voice be heard.

Have your eyeliner at the ready

I'll refrain from telling you exactly what I think of The Cure, so I can offer this newsbite scorn-free. Everyone's favorite mascara wearing songsters have a new album coming out, their first since 2004's self-titled effort. The new album doesn't have a name yet, but it does have a release date: September 13th.

There's more. Since this will be the band's 13th studio album, they're taking the number-motif a step further and releasing a new single from the album on the 13th day of each month until the album's release. For those of you too lazy to count, that means there will be 4 singles between now and then. The first one will be out next Tuesday and will be called "The Only One."

In addition the band will be kicking off a tour of these United States on Friday. Tour dates can be found below in the usual place.

The bit at the end

If you live in or around Dublin then make sure you go to Whelan's this evening and check out Man Man, with very special guest The Former Soviet Republic (a.k.a 411‘s own Ian Wright).

Semi permanent plug for Ian's blog. I would link to my own blog but I haven't updated the damn thing in like a month so there isn't much of a point.

Ian will be back next week, and if you're ever in the MMA zone feel free to look me up.
