Rock News For All You Newbs

Metallica will offer their new album Death Magnetic as a "coffin box" edition when it hits stores. The set will include a CD of demos, a DVD containing behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the new album, and a credit card with a special download code for a "special European show" taking place in September. Guess all you North American fans are fucked. Hahahahaha. An exact release date for Death Magnetic has yet to be set.

As if this album hasn't already sold enough fucking copies, a deluxe edition of Daughtry's self-titled debut will hit stores on September 9. The expanded CD/DVD includes four additional tracks including a cover of Foreigner's "Feels Like the First Time", acoustic versions of "Home" and "What About Now" and a live version of "It's Not Over". The DVD features music videos and other behind-the-scenes footage. I can't quite wrap my drunken mind around why it has taken whoever this long to get this re-release on the shelves. It's just a clusterfuck for the millions of people who already bought Daughtry.

And with every re-release of an album, the EP dies a little. Can I get an amen?

In case you missed it this week, Slipknot have announced the track listing for their upcoming new album All Hope Is Gone:

01 - "Execute"
02 - "Gematria (The Killing Name)"
03 - "Sulfur"
04 - "Psychosocial"
05 - "Dead Memories"
06 - "Vendetta"
07 - "Butcher's Hook"
08 - "Gehenna"
09 - "This Cold Black"
10 - "Wherein Lies Continue"
11 - "Snuff"
12 - "All Hope Is Gone"

The following tracks will be included on the special edition of the effort:

13 - "Child of Burning Time"
14 - "Til We Die"
15 - "Vermillion Pt. 2" (Bloodstone Mix)

Look! They're pre-empting a re-release!

Also, Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson broke both his heels as the result of a misplaced jump during the band's July 9 performance in Auburn, WA. In turn, Wilson will be confined to casts and a wheelchair until healing from the injuries. He doesn't plan to miss any live performances with the group. The album will see an August 26 release date.

3 Doors Down will perform their current single "It's Not My Time" and "Kryptonite" before the 2008 MLB Home Run Derby on Monday July 14th, 8PM ET at Yankee Stadium. One song from the performance will be broadcast live by ESPN. Yes, when I think how boring baseball has become, I immediately think about how shitty 3DD has become. A perfect marriage, in my humble opinion.

Live will be releasing their first live CD/DVD in October. The set documents their recent concert in Amsterdam and will include material from all seven of the band's studio albums and their cover of Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line".

Norma Jean and The Showdown are among the first acts announced for this fall's coming "Solid State Tour". More details are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. Both bands have new albums due out next month with Norma Jean's The Anti Mother set for an August 5 release date and The Showdown's Back Breaker set to arrive on August 19.

Funeral For A Friend has set an October 14 release date for their new album Memory And Humanity. The effort will be released through the groups own label, Join Us.

Century Media/Nuclear Blast is planning to release a number of limited edition vinyl pressings of albums from some of their current artists on August 19. Those set to get the treatment include:

Winds Of Plague - Decimate The Weak
Testament - The Formation Of Damnation
Stick To Your Guns - Comes From The Heart
Suicide Silence - The Cleansing

Saliva have titled their new album Monster. And that it will be. A release is expected later this year.

Zao has confirmed the rumors of a new album being in the works:

"There is a new record written and we will be recording in the next few weeks. We are really excited about the new material and hope to have a new song up soon. Jeff Gretz is back with us and will be playing on the record. We are also going to be blowing out some merch on the myspace page. We will make sure to keep everybody up to date with everything as soon as we can."

Straight Line Stitch have set When Skies Wash Ashore as the title to their new album which will see an August 19 release date.

Toxic Holocaust has set a September 2 release date for their new album An Overdose Of Death.

Thrice is expected to release a digital effort capturing their live set as part of The Myspace Transmissions series on July 22.

Textures have set a September 30 North American release date for their latest album Silhouettes. From what I've heard of these guys, they kick a lot of fucking ass. They remind me a heavier Soilwork: strong metal instrumentals with beautiful angry and, at times, melodic vocals. This further supports my theory that European metal is 10x better than American.

Skinlab is prepping a new digital EP dubbed Bloodclot for a release in the coming weeks. The effort is expected to feature the following track listing:

"Face Of Aggression"
"In For The Kill"
"Bloodclot" (demo)
"Planet's Collide" (Crowbar cover)
"Wasting Away" (Nailbomb cover)

Additional details on the effort have yet to be revealed.

Skillet will be releasing a new live CD/DVD titled Comatose Comes Alive in October. The set will include the band's recent performance in Chattanooga, TN.

Disturbed recently filmed a video for their track "Indestructible" with director Noble Jones (H.I.M., Sevendust). It is expected to surface shortly.

Trenches (ex-Haste The Day) have set a September 16 release date for their debut album The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole.

The Haunted has set Versus as the title to their new album which will see an October release date. The effort is being described by the label and band as a return to the group's "trademarked aggressive, thrashy sound."

Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe has been confirmed as the previously-rumored guest artist on Gojira's forthcoming new album The Way Of All Flesh. Blythe will appear on the new song "Adoration For None". The Way Of All Flesh is slated for an October 14 release date.

Puscifer (Tool) have begun work on new material with band frontman Maynard James Keenan offering the following on their progress:

"New music is in the works. We're starting to pull together some new pieces. Josh Eustis, Lustmord, our visiting Irish Bass Player, Tanya and I are indulging in some new ideas, old ideas, recipes, bad jokes, and the occasional 2 on 2 ball game."

Which might or might not be a euphemism for group sex. As more develops in that area, I'll keep you—wait, this isn't the "Quick ‘n Dirty!" or the "News" section. There's no sex here. And there's surely no Miley Cyrus. Anyway. This news means that we will have to wait at least another 5 years for a new Tool album. Which is fine by me. Lateralus keeps me perpetually content.

Dream Theater will be releasing Chaos in Motion 2007/2008 on September 23. The live DVD documents their "Chaos in Motion" tour will be available in both a two-disc set and a five-disc collector's edition which features two DVD's and three CD's containing fourteen live tracks.

Dimmu Borgir is planning a tentative October release date for their new 2-DVD/1-CD live effort, The Invaluable Darkness. The first DVD of the set will feature a variety of live footage, including late 2007 performances in Oslo, NOR, Berlin, GER and London, ENG. The second DVD of the set will feature the bands 2007 performance at the annual Wacken Open Air Festival, a video gallery and more. Finally, the audio CD portion of the set will feature a live P3 Session which took place at NRK Studio 19 in Oslo, Norway on September 18th, 2007.

Numerous metal/hard rock artists will be appearing on the soundtrack to this year's edition of the annual multiplatform videogame "Madden '09". There's a bunch, but the notable ones you will probably care about are:

Airbourne - "Stand Up For Rock 'N Roll"
Disturbed - "Inside The Fire"
In Flames - "The Mirror's Truth"
Mindless Self Indulgence - "Never Wanted To Dance"
Trivium - "Into The Mouth Of …We March"
Underoath - "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures"
Busta Rhymes feat. Linkin Park – "We Made It"
From First To Last – "Worlds Away"
Rev Theory – "Hey Yeah" (Which will be the Rated G Version…)
Shinedown – "Devour"
The All-American Rejects – "The Real World (Demo)"
The Offspring – "Hammerhead"

Johnny Truant has inked a deal with Ferret Music for the U.S. territory and will release their latest album No Tears For The Creatures through the label on September 30.

Korn's 2006 live DVD effort Live On The Other Side will be released on the high definition Blu-Ray format on October 7. Hey! I own the regular version…and it's still in the original plastic. What a waste of money.

Earshot has set The Silver Lining as the title to their new album which will see an August 26 release date. I've really missed these guys. They play a crappy live show, but their albums are amazing.

Former Epic Records act Cartel have signed a new record deal with Wind-Up Records. The band will hit the studio later this year with a release planned for early 2009.

Our Lady Peace announced in a blog today that they are recording a new album. The band has 17 songs recorded, many of which are finished, and plan to do another recording session at the end of the month.

The Human Abstract will begin selling a 4 song teaser EP for their new album Midheaven exclusively at "Hot Topic" beginning July 15. The effort will feature the following tracks:

The group's new full-length effort Midheaven will arrive in stores on August 19.

According to the New York Times, a new Guns N' Roses track titled "Shackler's Revenge" will be included on the video game Rock Band 2. The long awaited GNR album Chinese Democracy could be in stores this fall. It probably won't be. Haha.

The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman will be guesting on Ephel Duath's new album Through My Dog's Eyes. Weinman will be handling the electronic sampling for the band's new track "Bark Loud". Speaking on the opportunity, Weinman had the following to say:

"Ephel Duath is one of those bands that truly understands the essence of what experimental and fusion music should be about. Touring with them was an amazing experience and it is great to finally be collaborating in this way!"

Through My Dog's Eyes is expected out in October.

Mushroomhead vocalist Jeffrey Nothing has launched a Myspace page for his new solo project. You can check it out complete with material from the project online.

Audio clips of a number of artists contributions to "Kerrang!'s upcoming Iron Maiden tribute CD Maiden Heaven: A Tribute To Iron Maiden can be found online. Those currently featured include renditions of Iron Maiden material done by Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Trivium, Coheed And Cambria and Gallows. The CD itself will be included with the upcoming #1219 issue of "Kerrang!" which will go on sale on July 16.

Staind has revealed the track listing for their upcoming new album The Illusion Of Progress:

Nickelback has signed a new three album deal with the possibility of a fourth with Live Nation. The deal also covers the band's next three tours, merchandising and other sponsorship agreements. According to Reuters the deal is worth between $50 and $70 million. The band owes Roadrunner Records two more albums under their current contract and will begin releasing music via Live Nation once those are delivered.

I must of missed something, but did you just get this new layout today? Looks awesome. Slipknot's new CD doesn't sound too good from what I've heard, and the new Staind CD, judging by the titles seems to lack any heaviness that the band supposedly said they were gonna have. Seems like another 14 Shades Of Grey, oh well.

@Josh,

Yeah, the layout is new this week. I haven't finished making all my tweaks yet, but that will happen over the next few. Thanks for thinking it looks awesome :)

As for Slipknot, I haven't been impressed with what I've heard either. "All Hope Is Gone" and "Psychosocial" have not grown on me, but I'm trying to keep that from influencing the CD, as a whole.

Now, Staind, I couldn't agree with you more. Aaron Lewis and company have mellowed out far beyond what I ever expected. For me, when I listen to Tormented or Dysfunction and then 14 Shades, it's like listening to Staind and then the Aaron Lewis Band. I'll probably boycott it, uselessly.

lol Ben, I love those albums, it's just, why the hell would you say "Oh we're trying to get back to our heavier state." And then release a statement saying "Oh we tried but we like sounding like 14 Shades all over again." Now I like Aaron's solo stuff, and to be honest I really don't like Tormented and Dysfunction all that much anymore, and I did like Chapter V, but this is just inexcusable. I'll have to see what the album has in store before I can prpoerly gauge it, though.

regarding Josh's comment to staind's new album, they said they went into the studio wanting to do their heaviest album but did more of a blusey album resembling pink floyd

but dude i hope MJK does switch back to Tool sooner than later, i need another one of their albums. but lateralus does kick sooooo much ass
