Dancing About Architecture 8.05.08
Posted by Ian Wright on 08.05.2008

The bit at the start

Hello, it's a holiday here so lets get right into it after I say this …

I saw Tom Waits on Friday night. Charismatic bastard.

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.

The Halo Benders – The Rebels Not In

The best record from the Doug Martsch/Calvin Johnson side project.

You news, you lose

Yipee.

OK I'll admit that I much preferred their first album to Return To Cookie Mountain but news that a new TV On The Radio album is on the way fills my black little heart with joy, not least because it means that Dave Sitek isn't busy making Scarlett Johansson albums.

Dear Science is released on Interscope in the US on September 23rd and the day before on 4AD in some other countries. Here is a list of the names of the songs that are on it, in the order that you will be listening to them if you put it on your stereo and simply press "play" …

01 Halfway Home
02 Crying
03 Dancing Choose
04 Stork & Owl
05 Golden Age
06 Family Tree
07 Red Dress
08 Love Dog
09 Shout Me Out
10 DLZ
11 Lover's Day

A Reatard named Jay.

Have you been obsessively collecting Jay Reatard's series of 7"s that he's been putting out on Matador over the course of the year?

No?

Well it's ok because if you can't be bothered/have missed a few of them on October 8th you'll be able to buy Matador Singles '08 which unsurprisingly will collect (most of) the songs from the 6 issue series. The only missing cut from the collection is Deerhunter's cover of "Oh It's Such A Shame", and will be replaced with a song called "I'm Watching You."

This is the second singles comp Reatad has released this year following up the collection of material from 2006 and 2007.

Those crazy kids with their new albums and all that.

Less than 10 months (to be precise 9 months) after the release of their debut album Los Campesinos! will release album #2, entitled We are beautiful, We are doomed on Wichita in the UK on October 13th with a North American release to follow the next month on Arts & Crafts.

Writing about the album on their website the band said of it, "Despite Hold on Now, Youngster... being only five or so months old, we wanted to emphasize that this is no post-album cash-in.

"It's no B-Sides and rarities or 'songs that weren't good enough to be on the album cobbled together with some remixes and field recordings of Cardiff's indie scene'; it's 10 all-new tracks that none of you have ever heard before.

"Sure, we considered re-releasing a radio-edit of 'You! Me! Dancing!' and trying to get famous and scraping another tour out of that, but our parents unanimously agreed that if we did they would never speak to us again."

Tracklisting:

01 Ways to Make It Through the Wall
02 Miserabilia
03 We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed
04 Between an Erupting Earth and an Exploding Sky
05 You'll Need Those Fingers for Crossing
06 It's Never That Easy Though, Is It? (Song for the Other Kurt)
07 The End of the Asterisk
08 Documented Minor Emotional Breakdown #1
09 Heart Swells/Pacific Daylight Time
10 All Your Kayfabe Friends

Another Billy Corgan being a dick story.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Billy Corgan is set to begin legal proceeding against filmmaker Lester Cohn over his work surrounding Corgan's solo album TheFutureEmbrace. Cohn's job was to shoot studio recording and live footage of Corgan and that's what he did. But the suit alleges that he did a really bad job of it and the footage that was shown to Corgan "was completely unsatisfactory and not completed in a professional, workmanlike manner in accordance with the standards of a music filmmaker."

According to the Tribune it is also alleged that Cohn "misrepresented his filmmaking expertise and does not deserve the money he was paid." Corgan is seeking $100,000 in damages and all footage shot as his lawyers claim he wants to use it to, "create works in different media", this is footage remember, that Corgan claims is unsatisfactory yet he still wants to use it.

Ah, Broken Social Scene...who's you favorite Canadian indie band? It doesn't matter, they're all in BSS!

Awesome Wolf Parade video. Man, i love that song. They came into town a couple of weeks ago, and due to unforseen cirumstances i had to miss them. But September 1st, Sunset Rubdown is coming and there is no way that im missing them. Spencer Krug is a god!!
