All You Cannot Live Without 10.06.2008: Original Moisturizing Strength
Posted by Ben Czajkowski on 10.06.2008
Listen and judge the new Nickelback single. Kid Rock goes digital. QOTSA to be re-released. Black Light Burns, CKY checks in. Track listings for Fall Out Boy and Arch Enemy. Cypress Hill working with Linkin Park, RATM, Slash. Tour updates from Disturbed, AC/DC, Oasis, Scott Weiland and more. Full album from Rise Against and the new Paramore single.
Chimaira have finished writing thirteen new songs for their upcoming album and will begin pre-production on the effort with producer Ben Schigel (Chimaira, Walls Of Jericho) on October 17. Zeuss (Hatebreed, The Autumn Offering) will mix the album. The band made the following statement:
I listened to all of the songs on my way home tonight and love what we're onto so far. As much as I'd like to describe what it sounds like, i simply can't yet. It's like when you take a jigsaw puzzle out of your closet and dump the pieces onto the table. You know what the final image is going to look like but it's just going to take a while to get there.
For those you that are curious, Slipknot recently filmed a video for their track "Dead Memories" with director P.R. Brown (Chimaira, Avenged Sevenfold). Expect it to begin airing in the coming weeks.
Static-X's track "Push It" will be made available purchase as premium downloadable content in the multiplatform "Rock Band" videogame franchise next week.
Kid Rock has struck a deal with Rhapsody to sell his entire music catalog digitally. Rock will only sell entire albums, not individual tracks. Whoopie. Everyone already owns the new one, and the old stuff is virtually crap. "Bawitdaba"? What were you thinking?
Thursday inked a deal with Epitaph for the release of their new album. The band posted a lengthy statement:
One of our biggest concerns was that we find a situation where we could be free to just be Thursday. In the past we've been asked to be the poster boys for a movement that we didn't wish to be a part of, pressured to write "The Big Single" and told to work on our "image." As much as we've always tried to remain true to our vision for the band and our belief in the basic power of music, it has been a struggle to constantly deflect the suggestions and advice of the people surrounding us. In this way, our story is an all-too-common one in today's music industry: We jumped in at the deep end and found ourselves trying to swim with the sharks; even when we were winning, we were losing ourselves. We feel very lucky to have outlasted these challenges and are grateful for the chance to finally do things our own way.
The rest can be found here. As previously reported, the band will release a new split with Envy on November 4.
Five Finger Death Punch will release their debut album The Way of the Fist in Europe on January 19, 2009. The album was released in the United States on July 31, 2007.
CKY's Deron Miller has checked in with an update on the band's upcoming new album: I never would have imagined it ever happening but we are 98% done tracking the new CKY record. all that's left is some finishing touches and a this and a that and then Chad mixes it. I've been away for a while and wanted to check in and say hi. We're going to get in touch with you all soon but all I'm going to say about the new album right this second is...HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
Poison The Well will precede the upcoming May 2009 release of their new album with a series of 3 new 7" efforts. The first to land in stores will be titled I / III and will see a November 11 physical/digital release. It will feature the following track listing:
01 - "New Fast" 02 - "Purple Sabbath"
Production for the effort was done by Pelle Henricsson and Eskil Loustrom (Refused, Poison The Well). The series of releases will feature a hidden image which will be revealed when all three records are put together. Furthermore, none of the songs on the splits will appear on the group's forthcoming new album. As previously reported, Poison The Well will enter the studio in November to officially begin recording their new album with producer J. Robbins (Clutch, Against Me!).
Dimmu Borgir have shot down the rumors floating around that they inked a deal with Roadrunner Records. More on that can be found here. Dimmu Borgir will release their new 2 DVD/1 CD effort The Invaluable Darkness on October 14.
Arch Enemy will be releasing their new 2 CD/1 DVD live effort Tyrants Of The Rising Sun - Live In Japan on November 25. The effort will feature a complete live set from Japan as well as behind the scenes footage and promotional videos on the DVD. Meanwhile, audio of the performance will make up the CD portions of the set. The track listing for the live set is as follows:
01 - "Intro / Blood On Your Hands" 02 - "Ravenous" 03 - "Taking Back My Soul" 04 - "Dead Eyes See No Future" 05 - "Dark Insanity" 06 - "The Day You Died" 07 - "Christopher Solo" 08 - "Silverwing" 09 - "Night Falls Fast" 10 - "Daniel Solo" 11 - "Burning Angel" 12 - "Michael Amott Solo" (incl. "Intermezzo Liberte") 13 - "Dead Bury Their Dead" 14 - "Vultures" 15 - "Enemy Within" 16 - "Snowbound" 17 - "Shadows And Dust" 18 - "Nemesis" 19 - "We Will Rise" 20 - "Fields Of Desolation / Outro"
Black Light Burns's Wes Borland has posted a new batch of solo music here. He had this to say about it:
While you patiently wait for us to finish our new record, please head over to my painting page, www.myspace.com/wesleyborland -where you will find a couple of new music/noise items. Both have replaced all of the previous wisps of weirdness that were released as an addition to the 10 covers on the last Black Light Burns effort (Cover You Heart and The Anvil Pants Odyssey). This stuff may or may not be used in the future as far as scoring film, BLB, and/or other projects. It's always nice to be able to put recent recordings up between releases for no real reason except to say hello and to let you in on a little of where my head space is lately. That doesn't mean that everything I'm doing sounds like this. Believe you me, we're waking the dead on the next BLB record, but it's fun to share. Also, when you go over there, please take note of the 2 art shows I have coming up in Chicago and Philly. The new paintings for those shows can be viewed in the photos section over there. Thanks for checking in. -Wes

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda, Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello and Slash are all expected to contribute to Cypress Hill's upcoming new album. "We've got 30 songs done," says Sen Dog, who describes the album as "definitely hard-core hip-hop. I wouldn't say it's overly hardcore, but it's definitely a hip-hop album."
Morello will be on a track called "Rise Up" and with Shinoda on another song. Slash, meanwhile, plays on "Front Line." Sen Dog says the final guest list will be relatively small.

Canadian, multi-platinum selling artists Nickelback are poised to become the annoyance they've persisted to be for the better part of the decade all over again. I'll admit, when I first heard Leader Of Men, I believed that Nickelback was a worthwhile rock band with some grit and talent.
Now, I just believe they're a pain in my ass.
Like all things once loved, there are times when you go back to them and give them another shot. Some of the songs on All The Right Reasons were pretty good, reminiscent of what was once good and decent. It stayed in the top of the charts, selling 30k+ albums week after week, month after month.
Earlier this year, Nickelback signed a multi-year deal with Live Nation worth nothing short of a king's ransom. Before that kicks in, though, the boys in the band have to put out one more musical golden nugget for Roadrunner Records. And then Kroger & company are out of there like the roadrunner, ironically.
Well, the band released a free download of their new single last week, and it crashed the Roadrunner servers for part of the day. I never got a download of it; I really wanted to trash it and trash it. After the great bootleggin' folks out there posted it on Youtube, I got a chance to listen to it.
And I don't have to say one bad word about this song. It does it all itself. The words I'll say aren't bad; they're the truth: It's predictable, weak, and very, very poorly written. Don't believe me. Listen for yourself and read along.
Thank yous:
Those go out to Mitch Michaels, Dan Haggerty, and Dan Marsicano for this continued support and my maintained sanity. I'd also like to thank The PRP, Tunelab Music, AbsolutePunk.net, Blabbermouth, Music-News, 411Music News, Billboard, FMQB, the 400 press releases I get a week, and so on and so forth. These wonderful outlets do a fantastic job at reporting, and they have great people running them, as well. Maybe not so much Blabbermouth, but...
Oh god, it's awful. I'm not one to jump on the hate-nickelback wagon, but that...the lyrics... Manufactured waste.

The 1980s called. They want their gimmick back, Chad.

I made it to about 1:06 in that Nickelback "song" before I thought I was going to pass out from the pain.
Best news item of the week: QOTSA reissuing (but more importantly remastering thank god) their self-titled album. Fuckin' sweet.

that was the GAYEST song ive ever heard..there was zero creativity behind it

I would gladly GLADLY listen to anything new by Chris Cornell before I ever have to hear that song on the radio ever again. Is that what's passable for a multi-platinum selling artist these days?
BAH!

Best news: Finch is working on a new full length!! The EP was absolutely great, I can't wait for the new LP.

The most productive thing Chad Kroeger can do is to star in a public service announcement that reminds little kids of the extreme harm swallowing marbles can do to one's body.

Before this column gets swallowed whole by the Nickelback hate...THANK GOD CKY'S ALMOST DONE WITH THEIR NEW ALBUM!
Posted By: Kevin F. (Guest) on October 06, 2008 at 03:12 AM
Wow that is really bad. And I'm not even a hater. Some of their songs are catchy even though they suck. But that is truly bad. As a Canadian, I always wonder why Nickleback is so popular in the States. Choose better Canadian bands to like! Please just listen to some Tragically Hip. Please.

Ben, why didn't you post the Ill Nino/Otep tour dates bud?
Posted By: Tubby (Guest) on October 06, 2008 at 02:09 PM
I had a hard time focusing after I read the Queens of the Stone Age news. That's AWESOME. That's the only album I don't have of theirs, and it's a pain to find a copy that you don't pay an arm and a leg for. Total Win.
After that, nothing else seemed to matter. Thanks for brightening my day!
And I agree. "Leader of Men" had so much potential...

As long as generic Hip Hop that all sounds alike and Hannah Montana dominate the billboards, I really don't have enough hate left in my being to care about Nickelback!
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on October 06, 2008 at 04:21 PM
I guess he will only sell the whole album so you are stuck with an inferior product. Instead of just buying the one song he does that everyone seems to like. Which is a partial cover, kinda like a lot of his songs. Kid Rock is dried up.

nickelback have had a few decent songs (side of a bullet and flat on the floor are good rock songs) but shit like this, photograph, etc... pisses me off. if they try they could be decent. there just putting out shit. they probly wrote the whole album in a day just to put out 1 more record for roadrunner (and it'll sell multi-millions just on name recognition).
and im not a huge thursday fan but you gotta respect a band for not selling out and becoming part of an image, just to be on MTV. they just earned huge respect points with me
