All You Cannot Live Without 11.10.08: Not Part Of The Coming Apocalypse
Posted by Ben Czajkowski on 11.10.2008
New Lamb of God completed! The Deftones tragedy chronicled. Rammstein, Mushroomhead to record new music, finally! Blind Melon loses vocalist. Several new side projects you should be aware of. Tour dates from Disturbed, Candlebox, others. Listen to full streams of Butch Walker, Sister Sin. Plus, another new Nickelback track.
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is currently in a coma following a car crash in Santa Clara, CA this past week. Band frontman Chino Moreno made a formal statement on the situation, saying: "It deeply saddens me to inform you all that our brother Chi Cheng was involved in a terrible car accident last night. He is currently in a Northern California Hospital in serious, but stable condition. I am on my way up North right now to be by his side along with the rest of our band mates and family. Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I'm praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well."
Moreno added another update regarding the condition of Cheng. Here's what Moreno had to say:
"I am back from up North visiting our brother Cheng. His condition remains the same - serious, but stable. We, along with the entire Cheng family, would like to extend our gratitude to everyone that's said a prayer or sent out their positive thoughts to Chi. Your support means more than you know. During his recovery process, Chi's mother has asked that each day we spread a little bit of good in his name. So each day Deftones will be posting what you can do to help Chi recover. Today, she has asked that you all remember to buckle your seat belts, and remind those you love to buckle up. By doing something so little in his name, you will be helping him find the strength to recover."
Drummer Abe Cunningham checked in with the following: "I spoke to Chi's mother this morning, the Neurosurgeon treating Chi says the first 72 hours are critical, and as of now he is fighting the good fight and the doctors remain optimistic. We are seeing your prayers in action. The family asks that all the prayer warriors out there to continue to pray for Chi, and keep sending out your positive energy!"
The final update on Cheng is as follows:
"The critical 72 hours has passed and his condition is stable. His doc is expecting a recovery but want to continue to sedate him and keep him quiet, he was trying to fight even in his coma. His mother and son have asked that I pass this information on as well... In the past when chi was not on tour he would gather a few instruments together once a week and meet the homeless kids in the park to play music with them. Today we ask you to give a homeless person a blanket, some warm clothes or some food. If you don't see a homeless person, reach out to a child near or far, and show some kindness to them. keep sending your good thoughts and prayers, they are keeping him with us and he is improving daily."
The good news is that Chi's mother said he is expected to endure a tough recovery and will more than likely be able to return to the stage.
Scott Weiland will release a two-disc deluxe edition of his new solo album Happy in Galoshes exclusively to Best Buy on November 25. Deluxe edition track listing includes:
Disc One: 1. "Missing Cleveland" 2. "Tangle With Your Mind" 3. "Blind Confusion" 4. "Paralysis" 5. "She Sold Her System" 6. "Blister On My Soul" 7. "Fame" 8. "Killing Me Sweetly" 9. "Big Black Monster" 10. "Beautiful Day"
Disc Two: 1. "Crash" 2. "Hyper-Fuzz-Funny-Car" 3. "The Man I Didn't Know" 4. "Sometimes Chicken Soup (Dig My Way To China To Find You)" 5. "Some Things Must Go This Way" 6. "Pictures And Computers (I'm Not Superman)" 7. "Sentimental Halos" 8. "Reel Around The Fountain" (The Smiths cover) 9. "Archangel" 10. "Be Not Afraid" (Hidden Track)
Black Light Burns have parted ways with their bassist Sean Fetterman for reasons undisclosed. He will be replaced by his sometimes fill-in, Dennis "Jr." Sanders. Wes Borland had the following to say on the situation: "Hello, Hello. Please allow me drop the first of a series of upcoming news posts. The BAD news: Our good friend and cohort Sean Fetterman, for reasons we are unable to disclose, will no longer be able to play with Black Light Burns. We're thinking of him and hoping the best for him wherever he is. The GOOD news: Bass duties from now on will be covered by no other than Anvil Pants celebrity Dennis "Jr" Sanders. Some of you may have gotten to know Dennis out on the road and some of you may even know that he's played a show on bass with us before when Sean couldn't make it. The loss of Sean is great, but I think our gain with Dennis is even greater. If you saw the one show he played with us, you know he's a wild cat up there and brings a lot of filthy swagger to the show. He's also a professional son of a gun. Thanks, -Wes"
Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Nine Inch Nails, Papa Roach and more will have their songs featured on the upcoming "Rock Band Track Pack Volume 2". It will arrive in stores for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and Wii on November 17. The disc compiles 20 tracks previously made available as premium downloadable content for play in the "Rock Band" videogame series.
Blind Melon parted ways with vocalist Travis Warren. The band announced in a lengthy blog that Travis has been having throat problems for a while. He ‘treats it like a broken pawnshop fiddle‘ by ‘chain smoking‘.
After canceling shows due to Warren's throat problems, he became un-reachable for two weeks. When he finally called the band's manager he stated that he didn't want to be in the band anymore.
The Number Twelve Looks Like You have set Worse Than Alone as the title to their new album, which will arrive in stores on February 10. The effort was self produced with mixing helmed by Steve Evetts (Every Time I Die, The Dilligner Escape Plan).

Taking Back Sunday have titled their upcoming new album New Again. It is the first album to include their new guitarist Matt Fazzi after the departure of Fred Mascherino.
Killswitch Engage's Adam Dutkiewicz recently spoke about Times Of Grace, his new project with ex-Killswitch Engage/current Seemless frontman Jesse Leach. You can see what he had to say here.
Narrows (ex-Botch, etc.) have completed work on the musical side of their upcoming new album with mastering recently done by Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis). Here's what the band had to say on the matter:
"YES, the album is now officially completed. It was mastered this past Friday by Matt Bayles and we are very excited for everyone to hear it. We will be posting a track from the album in a few weeks, and hope you all enjoy it. We are finalizing the album name and will begin on artwork soon. We had wanted to get this out before the end of the year, but this whole distance thing can get a bit complicated at times. It would have been nice to tour one something besides a 7", but what can you do, it's punk rock right? We think the record will now be released around March-ish."
Ex-Submersed vocalist Donald Carpenter and ex-Flaw guitarist Lance Arney have formed the band Nothing In Return. You can check out five song clips on their MySpace.
Chimaira continue to make headway with their upcoming new album which they are currently holed up in the studio recording. Guitarist Rob Arnold has checked in with this latest update on their progress: "Things are going well here at the ol' studio. Today I finished working on the fifth of fourteen songs we're recording, and Matt is working on number six right now. My opinion on how things are sounding is.... "HUGE". You really never fully understand how technically demanding a riff is until you try to lay it down for good. A lot of this stuff is hard man- but totally catchy at the same time. I think it was Mr. Eddie Van Halen who once said, "Man I wish we could tour first, and then record the record"! And thats because after you've been on the road month after month, playing the songs over and over again, you're always much better at them individually, and as a band, then you are when you record them. But oh well... we're trying our best here, and I think everyone is going to appreciate it come April."
The upcoming deluxe edition of Bullet For My Valentine's Scream Aim Fire has been pushed back to a December 9 release. While an exact list of additional bonus content has yet to be revealed, the outing will come with a bonus DVD effort.
Marc Rizzo(Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy) has launched a page for his newest side project, Inpsychobleedia. Rizzo handles lead guitar and lead vocals in the outfit, which you can check out here.
Psyopus have set Odd Senses as the title to their new album which is scheduled for a February 17 release. For now, a new track from it entitled "The Burning Halo" can be found online here. The full track listing for Odd Senses runs as follows:
Lamb Of God set Wrath as the title to their new album this week. The album sports production from Josh Wilbur (Still Remains, Limp Bizkit). Speaking on the album band drummer Chris Adler offered the following:
"This album is going to surprise a lot of people. Typically bands that get to where we are in our career begin to slack off, smell the roses and regurgitate. We chose a different path. No one wants to hear another band member hyping a new record. WRATH needs no hype. We have topped ourselves and on February 24 you will feel it."
Lamb Of God later discussed their Wrath with MTV.com's "Metal File". It will see a February 24 release.

Haven't read the whole article yet, but do you know if there's an official release date for Queens of the Stone Age's remastered self-titled album? It's basically a life or death situation over here...
Posted By: James (Registered) (Guest) on November 10, 2008 at 12:07 AM
@James: Their wiki page says sometime in November. None of my normal "release" outlets have anything to say on the matter.
I hope whoever is holding the gun to your head now pulls the trigger.

lol at the newsbit about P.O.D. going on hiatus. As much as I like the band (for me, Satellite is their best stuff, thought I haven't heard too much of their earlier work) When Angels and Serpents Dance was disappointing. Maybe its time they did go on hiatus.

Hey Ben, you couldn't make fun of that Nickelback song Something In Your Mouth?
Posted By: Josh (Guest) on November 10, 2008 at 05:30 AM
To quote Queens themselves.. "Not me with a gun to my head. I can let it go." Great news report and all. As far as the death wish aspect, I'll chock it up to a proofreading oversight. Just doesn't seem too typical for a record to be supposedly coming out in less than 3 weeks but with no release date, while pretentious bands like Chimaira announce theirs way fucking earlier than necessary.

@Josh: I thought about making fun of the Nickelback song, but I'm tired of picking on Chad Kroger. And I already used the fact that he could suck on his dick as a punchline.
@James: Well you said that it was a matter of life and death. I was trying to use reverse psychology to save your life >_>
I do agree that there should be more of a solid release date by now. The fact that the s/t album was being released was made public over a month ago, yet no outlet has followed up about it. It's just a disservice to the band and their fans.
Posted By: Ben Czajkowski (Registered) on November 10, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Agreed. Especially considering the original planned release day was 11/11. They wouldn't release something tomorrow without announcing it beforehand would they? And thanks for trying to save my life... _> And for writing the best music news report on 411 8-)

Hey Ben ... don't forget about the Roadrunner United DVD dropping on Dec 9th!
