Joe's Jams 11.11.08: Top Ten Rap Songs Featuring Nate Dogg
Posted by Joe Rivett on 11.11.2008
From Dre to Eminum, Tupac to Luda, Nate Dogg has guested on some of the best rap albums of this era...
For some reason, rap albums have to feature a wide variety of artists. Certain artists go through spurts where they seem to be featured in every song like Lil Jon or Akon. Yet, Nate Dogg has been collaborating with artists since the mid 90s and doesn't appear to be slowing down. It seems like any song that features Nate Dogg automatically is a good song and usually end of being one of my favorites. Here is my top ten list of rap songs featuring Nate Dogg…
10. Tupac - "Skandalouz" This song doesn't feature much of a chorus but Nate Dogg has the amazing ability to take one word: 'scandalous' and make it into one of the catchiest choruses.
9. Obie Trice - "The Setup" Without Nate Dogg, this song would just be boring as it tells the story of a guy who gets setup by a woman. Yet, Nate Dogg has the ability to tell the story with his voice and make it sound cool. This song did not receive much airplay as it had to be edited down way too much.
8. Eminem - "Till I Collapse" I love how this song sounds like a march with a ton of clapping to keep the beat. This song doesn't rely on Nate Dogg's talent as Eminem doesn't need help to sound interesting but Nate Dogg adds a nice touch to a great song.
7. Eminem - "Bitch Please II" Nate Dogg's chorus in this song is so catchy that my friends and I refer to this song as the "You Don't Really Wanna Fuck, With Me" song. I eventually bought the The Marshall Matters LP and found out the song is called "Bitch Please II." This song features an all-star cast of Eminem, Snoop, Dre, Xzibit, and Nate Dogg.
6. Tupac - "All Bout You" – This song is pure fun. Nate Dogg's chorus cracks me up:
"Every other city we go, every other video
No matter where I go, I see the same ho"
And of course Snoop Dogg chimes in at the end:
"I'm tellin ya, it's the same ol' shit
I mean.. god damn, youknowhatI'msayin?
I'm sittin back, watchin Montell Jordan video
I see the same bitch, who was in, my homeboy Nate Dogg video
Then I flip the channel
I'm checkin out my homeboy Tupac video
I see the same bitch that was in my video, yaknahmsayin?
And then yaknahmsayin what make that even mo' fucked up
I'm watchin a Million Man March
And I see the same bitch, on the Million Man March
that was in, the homeboy Warren G video!
I mean, damn, everywhere I look, everywhere I go
I see the same ho
Don't get mad, I'm only bein real
Yeah"
5. Ludacris - "Area Codes" The album Word of Mouf is one of my favorites with songs like "Move Bitch" and "She Said". This is another nice lighthearted fun song with Nate Dogg taking one sentence and turning it into an entire chorus.
4. Snoop Doggy Dogg - "Ain't No Fun" The background in this song is a classic. I love the fact that Nate Dogg gets featured in more than just the chorus. Out of all of Nate Dogg's songs, this is probably the most misogynistic. I also like how Nate Dogg shows off his upper register in this one.
3. Eminem - "Shake That" There is no better club sounding rap song than this one. Nate Dogg shows off his ability to utilize his lower register in this one. He gets more ass than a toilet seat!
2. Dr. Dre - "Next Episode" This song is gangsta and was the pinnacle of West Coast Rap. For some reason it wasn't that popular when it came out but it has aged like a fine wine. According to Wikipedia it is the most downloaded Dr. Dre song on iTunes. On Sirius Satellite Radio, they occasionally play a mash-up of the "Next Episode" and "Paradise City"
1. Warren G - "Regulate" You can argue with the order of these songs or wonder why I didn't include others, but I think we can all agree that this is the best song featuring Nate Dogg. Even though he was featured in The Chronic this is his along with Warren G's breakout hit. This track first appeared on the Above the Rim Soundtrack. It promoted the movie great because it made me want to see it. This song was great because it told an awesome story and appealed to all ages and races. I also love the sample from Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting"
Regulate is definitely number 1. Some I would have put that you don't have would be "21 Questions" by 50 Cent, "Xxplosive" by Dr. Dre, "Too Much" by The Game, "Multiply" by Xzibit, "Groupie" by Snoop Dogg, and "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" by Thug Life.

"Nate Dogg has been collaborating with artists since the mid 90s and doesn't appear to be slowing down."
apparently u are a fan of mainstream music and not so much Nate Dogg because if u were u would know that he has slowed down since he suffered 2 STROKES This Year and hasn't been very active for a while aside from some independent artist and a few chicano rappers Nate hasn't done much for the last 2 to 3 years last 3 big albums he was a part of were Lil Flip's "I Need Mine" Snoop's "Blue Carpet Treatment" Game's "Doctor's Advocate" do your research homie...and Kurruption's List looks pretty on point

Nate was on Nelly's album, but didn't really feature prominently. Sadly, it wasn't just the strokes the slowed him down.
Two words: Akon and T-Pain.
IMO, an Hon mention to "Bitch Please" original. My list would have included "My Name" and "Black Mercedes" as Kurruption mentioned, "Deeez Nutz", "Lay Low" too at some point

My list is songs you've probably never hear of but should've Robinson, who hasn't heard of Lay Low and Deez Nutz? Yeah Akon and T-pain definitely have something to do with Nate Dogg slowing down, troubles with the Elroys as well! Hopefully he fully recovers and comes back to claim his hard earned spot!

Oh nah I didn't mean "Lay Low" and "Deez Nutz" were unheard of. I was agreeing with your mentions of "Black Mercedes" and "My Name" and had I been doing my own Top 10 (general list like Joe's done) it would have included them.
I don't think the public wants a deep baritone voice anymore, everybody wants the chipmunk Akon or auto-tune T-Pain. What ever happened to singing properly!

while the subject of hook singers the best next to nate is his actual cousin Butch Cassidy he's got some of the best song hooks in music in general and he is still very underrated (shit he stole the show on "lay low" and doesn't get that credit) i could make a top 10 big names he's worked with and alot of people have heard him but dont even know who he is
