All You Cannot Live Without 12.01.08: Welcome To The Worst December Ever
Posted by Ben Czajkowski on 12.01.2008
Megadeth front man checks in with massive update. More on the new Nine Inch Nails drummer saga. Cheng still in a coma. Update on Rob Zombie’s new album. Black Light Burns now homeless. Tour dates with Slipknot, Nickelback/Seether/Saving Abel, more. Audio clips from Glassjaw, Crossbreed, more.
The Lostprophets and drummer Ilan Rubin addressed his departure and his decision to join Nine Inch Nails. It is as follows:
From Ilan:
"I come by to bring you some bittersweet news. As some of you might have read, I will be joining Nine Inch Nails as of 2009. Although the opportunity brings me great honor, It sucks to say goodbye. I wanted to let you all know personally that I'm thankful for everything I've experienced with Lostprophets over the past 3 years. It was an amazing time playing shows all over the world, meeting new friends and fans, and of course being a part of this group. I'll certainly miss it and I hope I haven't upset anyone, but the times always go on. Thanks to everybody who have supported the band and myself the entire time. I hope to see all, or at least some of you at future NIN shows wherever they may be. Also, I wanted to thank Mike, Lee, Stu, Jamie, and Ian, their families, and the crew who have taken me in as one of their own and have helped me get to where I am today. I really do appreciate it all and I consider them some of my best friends (innit). I hope I can keep my Welsh accent sharp for whenever I'm back in the valleys boyos. For all of you out there who are curious about this long awaited 4th album, we are getting ready to record the final tracks. And although it's taken a while, we've always had your satisfaction in mind. But before my rambling gets old, I should mention that I'll still be writing, recording, and performing with The New Regime. Thanks again for everything, sorry for any disappointments, and take care!"
The band:
"As some of you may or not know, Ilan our drummer of 3 years is leaving us for a bigger band and a real pay check.
Jokes aside, I hear you asking did he bite the hand that feeds? What kind of a reptile or demon seed is he? That, my friends, needs to stop right now, i do not want this. Sometimes love is not enough, and after 3 years the line begins to blur. We asked him 'you know what you are?' while he replied if 'only!'. Then went on to tell NIN 'im looking forward to joining you finally' because he is a naughty little piggy. The way out is through times like these, and even though we're in this together we all know Ilan will find happiness in slavery. I know some of you will claim this is heresy, and i will admit i am somewhat damaged, but thats what i get. Yes this does suck but i guess it was his wish .
I also know some of you thought this was all a terrible lie, so i hate having to be the one giving you all the big come down, but even though we are all a little bit fragile right now, i know our survivalism will get us through and it will all be for the greater good. Ilan has a lot of discipline and i know he will no longer think that every day is exactly the same, this is a god given chance for him. So this puts into motion the beginning of the end for Ilan and Lostprophets. We have all grown closer to him, and know he is not the great destroyer. No matter what he never gave up on our vessel. In this twilight we are letting you know that there is no need to panic or worry. This isnt the start of a downward spiral, we are now even deeper into the new album and will never succumb to the great below. Underneath it all my violent heart still beats a proud and sure rhythm. The warning here is that you never know whats around the corner, and even though you may get hurt, sin or no sin, all you need to do is keep your head down and know that you still have us, and we will continue to give you all the love in the world.
We wish Ilan good luck with everything, and while the time we have together is getting smaller, we will always look up at the same lights in the sky and know he is right where he belongs. "
The Lostprophets have reconvened at Hollywood's Sunset Sound studio to finish up tracking new material for their long awaited new album. I
Rob Zombie, who has been working on his upcoming new album since February, has announced that the new album is "almost finished". Zombie also revealed that this is the first time since White Zombie that he has recorded with a full band that he is also touring with.
Bullet For My Valentine have already begun writing new material for their next album which they hope to have out before 2010. Here's what they had to say on the matter:
''The new songs are totally Bullet and instantly recognizable, but it is a bit of a direction change, it sounds more like 80's Ozzy stuff mixed with Poison. The guitar parts are very glam but with me on vocals and Moose pounding away on the kit. Kind of what we were dabbling with on ‘Hearts Burst Into Fire'.''
Ephel Duath added Guillermo Gonzales to their line-up as their new vocalist. He replaces Luciano George Lorusso, who was forced to leave the band for undisclosed reasons. Speaking on the change, band mastermind Davide Tiso had the following to offer: "I always thought that one day I was going to have a band with my friend Guillermo, then when Lucio realized that he was forced to abandon the band, we both agreed that he was the right person to call to properly continue the activity of Ephel Duath. We are already working so hard, that I didn't have the time to realize how excited I am to start this new adventure... What I know is that I'm really, really happy and genuinely trusting for the future of my life, and my band."
The group's new album Through My Dog's Eyes is tentatively set to see a late February release in North America.
Former members of A Dozen Furies and Prophecy have joined forces in The Funeral Procession. The group is currently on the hunt for a singer with demo tracks available online here. Some of them are decent, I think.
Austrian Death Machine, the Arnold Schwarzenegger-inspired side project of As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis, made a sampler of their cover of the holiday classic "Jingle Bells" available online here. It comes from their holiday-themed single "A Very Brutal Christmas". The single also features a cover of Judas Priest's "Hell Bent For Leather" and a video for their track "Get To The Choppa".
Rumors abound that Torche have parted ways with their lead guitarist Juan Montoya. Montoya has not been seen performing with the band at recent shows and has also been removed from the band's line-up on the group's official Myspace page. Torche confirmed the departure of Montoya from their line-up. The group, who plans to continue on as a trio for the interim, cites "personal reasons" as the cause for the split. In other news, Hydra Head Records is said to be planning a 12" for the band's track "Healer" in the coming months.
32 Leaves decided to part ways with Universal Republic Records. The band has completed their new studio album and plan to release it early next year. Rumor has it that the band was let go of a while ago because their single "All Is Numb" didn't catch on the way Universal had hoped. All I can say is.
Once Nothing parted ways with both their bassist Steve Lucarelli and their drummer Giuseppe Capolupo. Lengthy statements from both parties can be found here. I'd copy/paste it, but I don't feel like dealing with the formatting today.
Drowning Pool will begin recording the follow-up to 2007's Full Circle early next year. A live CD/DVD recorded earlier this year in San Diego is expected to be released in February.
Killwhitneydead. will be releasing a new holiday EP entitled Stocking Stuffher on December 1. A complete track listing is as follows:
01 Merry Axemas (2006 remix of One Match & A Gallon Of Gasoline) 02 Jingle Hell (2007 remix of Skip The Break Up Get To The Make Up) 03 You Smell Naughty (2008 remix of You Smell Excited) 04 Let Me Give You A Hands Stuffing Your Stocking (2008 remix of Let Me Give You A Hand Throwing Yourself Out)
Enhanced CD - "Let Me Give You A Hand Throwing Yourself Out" MUSIC VIDEO - "Just When You Thought I Was Listening" MUSIC VIDEO - TRIBUNAL RECORDS SAMPLER VIDEO - 30+ FREE MP3s OF TRIBUNAL ARTISTS
Poison The Well began recording their new album this . Due to a family emergency however, the band was unable to have J. Robbins (Clutch, Shiner) handle the production. Instead, the group has enlisted Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die) to helm the record, which is expected out in May.
Bloodjinn are nearing the final stages of the writing process for their next album Between Breaths. The group will soon enter the studio to begin recording it with band guitarist Kyle Odell handling the production alongside Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, The Human Abstract). Guest appearances from Will Jackson (ex-From A Second Story Window), Josh King (House Of Fools) and Adam Cody (Glass Casket) are expected to surface on the album, with more TBA. An April 2009 release is being planned for the effort. In the meantime, the band will be posting a pre-production demo of their new track "Addictions" online early next month.
The Fall Of Troy's latest release Phantom On The Horizon has been made available for purchase online here. The effort is a final take on the group's early Ghostship demo release and has the following track listing:
01 - "Chapter 1: Introverting Dimensions" 02 - "Chapter 2: A Strange Conversation" 03 - "Chapter 3: Nostalgic Mannerisms" 04 - "Chapter 4: Enter the Black Demon" 05 - "Chapter 5: The Walls Bled Lust"
Children Of Bodom is preparing to release a wealth of vinyl editions of their back catalogue in North America on January 13. The following efforts will arrive in stores on vinyl:
Tokyo Warhearts Something Wild Hatebreeder Follow The Reaper Blooddrunk Are You Dead Yet?
Hurt completed work on their new studio effort, Goodbye To The Machine which is set to be released in February / March 2009. The yet to be determined first single will impact radio in January.
The Black Dahlia Murder parted ways with guitarist John Kempainen. Their official statement on the matter reads as follows: "On the eve of our December tour with friends Misery Index and Soilent Green, we in The Black Dahlia Murder are faced with a heartbreaking dilemma: John K. has abruptly left the fold and refuses to accompany us on the tour. We are left with no choice but to carry on with the dates as a four piece. The remaining members of the band apologize for these unprofessional circumstances, but we feel that it is best to go through with the tour and not disappoint the other bands as well as the fans who are looking forward to these shows. Please come out and show some Black Dahlia love in our hour of need."
Black Light Burns have found themselves unsigned as a result of their label I AM: Wolfpack folding. Here's a statement from Wes on the future plans of BLB:
"We are touring in January and February with Combichrist in the US and Canada. Two things are very different about this tour. 1) We are touring as an unsigned band. Our former label (bless their hearts) I AM: Wolfpack have thrown in the towel as a label altogether and we are actively seeking a new home for our next album which brings me to my second point: 2) on this tour we will be trying out a lot of new material. That's right. Although there will be songs played off of Cruel Melody and Cover Your Heart, this tour is going to be primarily used as a proving ground for the new shit. One of the new songs will be released at the beginning of next year during the tour on an upcoming soundtrack (More on that later) and we'll be playing that as well. It's been a long time and this band is far from over. We're all looking forward to hanging out and having a few laughs and drinks with some familiar faces as well! These shows are going to go off! See you there!"
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine recently checked in with a quite large update regarding the writing process for their upcoming album. Here's some of what Mustaine had to say:
"Of the four songs we have demo'd up (without lyrics) there are fast and slow elements in each song. I am ok with the way that the parts are shaping up, and since the finished project is always better than the drawing board, I am just going to relax and sit back and watch how things unfold themselves. It gets too overwhelming with all of the complaints on how to make the next record and what I am doing wrong, and how we are too this or too that to matter to metal fans, and I just shake my head and laugh."
This part made me laugh a little:
"But this is just as preposterous as the several dozen sites on Facebook and elsewhere with impostors acting like they are me. I don't know what I find more ignorant, the impostor or the people who carry on these relationships with these impostors. I was talking to justis and his guitarist yesterday, and telling them how terrible people will be, how they will love you, and turn on you, and how to keep from letting it break you down. People just love to hurt other people; especially anonymously over the net."
December 1 Black Stone Cherry "Please Come In" Guns N' Roses "Better" Shiny Toy Guns "Ghost Town"
December 8 3 Doors Down "Citizen Soldier" Beck "Youthless" Dead Confederate "The Rat" Ryan Adams and the Cardinals "Magick" Red Jumpsuit Apparatus "You Better Pray" Theory of a Deadman "Hate My Life"

Great article like usual, but a pretty slow news week. Only thing I'm wondering is.. how the hell Love Hurts by Incubus is still on some form of Top 10? It's been *over* two years since Light Grenades came out. Very unusual...

lol @ the Lostprophets letter.
and how is that WTF news?
Posted By: sa+an (Guest) on December 01, 2008 at 05:39 AM
James, here's an article on how "Love Hurts" managed to show up on the charts 2 years after the album's release.

Hey, Ben, let's go see Black Light Burns.
I'm serious.
Posted By: Marshall (Guest) on December 01, 2008 at 09:34 AM
nothing makes you realise just how HUGE pussies musicians are like when you read letters after a band member leaves.
god, what a bunch of self important bullshit.
Great news about Zombie's new album...i can't wait for it.

@Marshall: Okay. let me know when and where.
@ Sa+an: There was more to it, but word ate what I wrote, so I said fuck it. Being sick and aggravated, I didn't feel like redoing it.
@Adam: Fuck yeah, thanks for the article link. That explains A LOT.

@ Darth
not a NIN fan I take it?

Good column...I may not agree with everything. I try to read it every week to see if anything is coming out or who is touring. The NIN news suprises me....is Finck still involved with them or has he quit ?
Another good thing is you at least let people who have different opinions post on here. Not like one guy on 411mania. (I won't mention names...but thats the 3rd time I tried posting on something with really no offensive words ect ect)
But good column as usual.
