Seven Mary Three - House Of Blues, Lake Buena Vista, FL (9.07.02)
Posted by Yabba Dabba on 09.15.2002

On Saturday September 7th, Seven Mary Three played their last show of their tour, which had lasted almost 3 months. Although originally from Virginia, the band became popular after an Orlando are radio station played their single “Cumbersome” so the band has always had a special place for the Orlando area. The show was originally scheduled to be the last date of the “New World Disorder Tour” with the Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms and Sponge, but for some reason the show was canceled. Soon after Seven Mary Three rescheduled a solo show.

The opening acts started at 9pm. First was Steve Burry who played all his songs either by himself on an acoustic guitar or with a single other person playing an acoustic bass. His songs were fairly catchy, but the majority of the crowd wasn’t interested in seeing a folk singer. After his performance the band Precious played. They are apparently local friends of Seven Mary Three and got a better reaction out of the crowd, if only because they were loud, the singer made bad jokes and cursed a lot and the crowd was much drunker as a whole.

Seven Mary Three took the stage finally at a little before 11pm. They went on to play the following songs:

1.First Time Believers

2.Sleepwalking

3.Homestretch

4.Shelf Life

5.Roderigo

6.Over Your Shoulder

7.MY MY

8.What Angry Blue?

9.Anything

10.Water's Edge

11.Lucky

12.Break the Spell

13.Faster

14.Peel

15.Wait

16.Breakdown

17.Cumbersome

Encore:

18.Lame
19.Like A House

20.Honey of Generation

21.Rockin’ in the Free world

Only being familiar with 7M3’s singles and a few others I enjoyed “Water’s Edge” and “Cumbersome” the most from the band’s original songs. Break the Spell is a new song, which was very good and should be on their new album soon. Before the end of the regular set the band did a really great jam of a Rage Against the Machine song as well as what sounded like Ozzy Osbourne’s classic “Crazy Train.” “Lame” was done solo by Jason. “Like A House” is apparently an apparently rare song and many hardcore 7M3 fans in the crowd was crazy over it. Jason and the singer from Precious did it by themselves. The rest of the band came out for “Honey of Generation.” “Rockin’ in the Free World” was a total surprise to me and being one of my favorite songs of all time it was just amazing. Before the song Jason introduced the song as belonging to nobody; it belonged to everyone and pointed that it belonged to several people in the audience as he said “you and you and you” (the song is a Neil Young classic.) Paul from Dynaride came out for the song as well to play guitar and they just jammed it, it was a really great choice especially considering the date.

The encore was well worth the 12 dollar ticket alone to me as a casual fan. The lead guitarist from the band is just an amazing player, the solos often overshadowed the actual songs. To hardcore fans of the band it must have been the best buy of their life. Just a great rock ‘n roll show from a great band.

The 411: A loud rock show from a band with catchy songs, what more could you want?

Final Score:  0.0   [ Torture ]  legend
