Both Simon Cowell & Paula Abdul Talking About Leaving "American Idol"
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 04.27.2009

Both Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell have openly discussed ending their run on "American Idol". Both judges have been there for eight seasons and both see their contracts run out next year.

Paula revealed her contract is up on a recent episode of "Nightline", while Simon has mentioned moving on in several press interviews.

"I have had a great eight years," said Cowell. "But inevitably you get to a point in life when you think maybe it's time for a change."

"I have not even sat down [Fox] yet. Maybe I'm being premature. Maybe they don't want me!," he said.

Cowell earns an estimated $36 million per season.

While "Idol" has seen viewership decline in recent years, it is still the highest rated show on TV. Many wonder if the show still garner interest without two of its four judges.

Sounds like they want to get out before the glorified karaoke fad goes burns out... 8 years was a good run for such garbage though.

Prevailing opinions on American Idol notwithstanding, Paula Abdul can be replaced (and to a point, already has).

But unless they can find another Brit with as much industry credibility who'll revel in being a venomous bastard, no Simon Cowell = the beginning of the end for Idol.

Guaranteed.

Simon Cowell getting bored of earning 36 mill a season to just sit there and berate people. I'd happily replace him and I am British! Though I have no music credentials... hang on did Cowell have any before hand???

O yeah he did he released the Power ranger album and the wwf album in 93'.

Simon Cowell makes 36 million for that shit?
He's just trying to get over 40

Sweet. Now is my chance!

If they both leave that's pretty much the end of the show

I think it's a brilliant move. He's gonna wait a year. AI will go to the shitter. Then he'll come in with X-Factor on another channel and easily earn $50M a year.

Oh poo. I would like them both to stay. I want the familiarity to be there until the whole show ends! I think if one of them leaves, the other will leave too. They've both said they wouldn't do the show without the other.

If Simon Goes, American Idol goes. When the "inevitable" happens, the other judges should also quit. The best and most dignified time to end a successful show is while it's still on top.

The show would be over without them

Kara could easily replace Paula, and already has in my opinion. (Paula has managed to stay sober most of the season now that there is competition.) Simon, however, is the big personality and the one that we all love to watch. The performers are OK, but not riveting.

If it's such garbage then why are you reading this article? Why do you care about it? American Idol is a great avenue for aspiring artists, if Simon leaves it will be a little strange. I

And whoever says that the performers this season aren't "riveting" need to get a grasp of what is considered talent. There are several very good potentials this year.

I agree Kara could replace Paula....but Simon is hard to top. Randy and Kara and a hard core hard ass like Simon- woudl be good....we just need to find him.....

i hope no one leaves american idol I love all the judges and I was hoping they would stay until I'm on american idol.

P.S. Is it true that paula and simon r dating or is it just rumors?

I hate to hear that Simon and Paula are considering leaving. For me, they make the show. I know that alot of people critize Simon for his "brutal" opinions, but that is why I love him! He is honest. If simon leaves , I know that I will not watch the show anymore!
