Katy Perry Taking On Fashion Designer Katie Perry
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 06.21.2009

Australian fashion designer Katie Perry has been issued a cease-and-desist order by Katy Perry and her label EMI. EMI wants to block the designer from using a "similar name" to Perry's.

Though the Katie Perry clothing line began two years before Katy Perry broke onto the national scene, Perry did not secure a trademark for the name.

Interestingly, the designer's real name is Katie Jane Perry, while Katy was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson.

I could easily be wrong, but if its her legal name then she has the right to use it.

Isn't that why Jim Hellwig is now Warrior?

So if Katy Perry were to use her real name would She Sue Kate Hudson?

Well, that's bullshit.

Hope the law rules in the designer's favor here.

As if I needed another reason to despise Katy Perry.

Not only is she a no-talent wannabe Bettie Paige bitch, she's a pointlessly litigious no-talent wannabe Bettie Paige bitch.

She is not having her legally change her name. She just doesn't want her line of clothing to be called katy perry. Very reasonable request

No it's not a reasonable request. The chick had her line out 2 years before Perry hit the music scene. There was no attempt by the designer to make it seme like they were associated. This is getting thrown out.

I'm pretty sure that Katie Perry won't have to change her clothing line. It is her legal name and she designed the clothes, so she has the right to put her name on it. Specifically, her name is "Katie" Perry and not Katheryn or anything like that. This is how both Chyna and Warrior get around the trademark issues.

And I really doubt that it's "Katy Perry and her label EMI." Most artists like this don't really think about this shit; it's more than likely just EMI.

If Katie Perry had trademarked the name then there would be no issue. But if someone trademarks a name such as musician Katy Perry has, then no one else can use that particular name for a financial reason.

Not the best example, but if World wrestling Entertainment has not trademarked their name, which they obviously have, I could put a trademark on it and they would not be able to use that name anymore.

It doesn't matter if it is the persons real name or not. It has nothing to do with her real name. It has to do with the use of the name on the clothing line. It could still be "designed by Katie Perry", the clothing line just couldn't be called Katie Perry.
