Original Stooges Reunite
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 09.04.2009

The Stooges have reunited with former guitarist James Williamson. The band - minus frontman Iggy Pop - has been rehearsing in Los Angeles for the past month. As far as gigs, the Stooges have finally booked one - May's All Tomorrow's Parties in London, where they'll perform their classic Raw Power album in its entirety.

Williamson was brought in as guitarist during the recording of Raw Power in 1973 as original guitarist Ron Asheton moved to bass. The band broke up in 1974, but Williamson and Pop worked together briefly.

"We had a blowout," Williamson says. "We wound up not talking for 20 years." When the Stooges reunited in 2003, they featured Asheton back on guitar. Unfortunately, Asheton died earlier this year and the Stooges have been silent since.

Williamson got the phone call from Iggy Pop about the reunion. "He asked me if I wanted to play guitar again," says Williamson, who hasn't performed since the Stooges split. "I was about to take an early retirement from my job in Silicon Valley, so I figured ‘What the hell, let's do it.' "

The band will reconvene, this time with Pop, for more rehearsals later this month.
