Billboard Charts: Jay-Z Debuts #1
Posted by Ashish on 09.16.2009

Jay-Z debuted #1 on the latest Billboard charts, with The Blueprint 3 moving 476,000 copies last week. Believe it or not, Jay-Z has now passed Elvis Presley as the solo act with the most #1 albums. He is #2 among all acts, behind only the Beatles, who have 19 #1 albums.

The Beatles albums, many of which were reissued, combined to sell 626,000 copies. Abbey Road was the top seller of the bunch, moving 89,000 copies. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band sold 74,000, The White Album sold 60,000, Rubber Soul sold 58,000, Revolver sold 46,000, Help! sold 39,000, Let It Be sold 32,000, Past Masters Vols. I and II sold 31,000, Magical Mystery Tour sold 30,000, A Hard Day's Night moved 29,000, The Beatles In Stereo sold 26,000, Please Please Me moved 23,000, With The Beatles sold 22,000, Beatles for Sale sold 21,000, Yellow Submarine sold 14,000, and The Beatles In Mono sold 12,000. As always, none of these albums (except Stereo and Mono) were eligible for the Billboard 200 charts because they are more than 18 months old. They do dominate the Top Pop Catalog charts though, with nine of the top 10 spots being taken up by Beatles albums, along with Michael Jackson's Number Ones at #6 with 45,000 copies sold.

The week's other big debut belonged to Raekwon with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. 2 moving 68,000 copies.

Here's the Billboard top 10:

1. Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3 - 476,000 copies sold
2. Miley Cyrus - The Time of Our Lives - 120,000 copies sold
3. Whitney Houston - I Look To You - 88,000 copies sold
4. Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. 2 - 68,000 copies sold
5. Brooks and Dunn - #1s... And Then Some - 55,000 copies sold
6. Trey Songz - Ready - 45,000 copies sold
7. The Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. - 44,000 copies sold
8. Boys Like Girls - Love Drunk - 41,000 copies sold
9. Kings of Leon - Only By The Night - 40,000 copies sold
10. Taylor Swift - Fearless - 33,000 copies sold
