KISS, Genesis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J Up For 2010 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 09.23.2009

Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced the list of nominees for 2010 inductions.

Among the names are KISS, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Genesis, the Hollies, LL Cool J and Jimmy Cliff, all getting their first nomination.

ABBA, the Chantels, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, the Stooges and Donna Summer are also on the list, though they have been nominated in the past and not made it in.

Nominees will be voted on by a group of over 500 industry luminaries. The five artists with the most votes will be inducted at the March 2010 ceremony. The final list is expected in January.

RHCP drummer Chad Smith said "it's a real honor to be nominated in our first year of eligibility. Obviously the Hall of Fame has excellent musical taste."

Meanwhile, KISS has been eligible for the last ten years but has never been up for the induction. They could be the most glaring omission in the Rock Hall.

Hollies co-founder Graham Nash is already in the Hall for his work with Crosby, Stills & Nash but said he was "very thrilled" with the Hollies nomination. "There's a long way form here to actually being inducted," noted Nash. "I truly believe the Hollies deserve to be inducted. They were a large part of the early history of what we know as rock 'n' roll. I would be particularly thrilled for Allan Clarke. That's where my heart goes. I'm already in there, but it would be a thrill for me to see it happen for the Hollies."

What the fuck, STILL no Rush?

Glad to see KISS finally get the nod, though, if only for their legendary marketing skills.

Let's hope they're smart and go with KISS, RHCP, Genesis, The Stooges (punk before punk), and...let's say Donna Summer...cause there always has to be an oddball...fuck ABBA.

This band keeps getting more annoying.

If you'd have told me that LL Cool J was going to be in the rock and roll hall of fame before Rush, I would have been like "yeah right"

I mean nothing against LL but it's fucking RUSH and it's the fucking ROCK hall of fame.

I remember reading the guy who runs the RNR HOF saying that as long as he is alive, KISS will NOT be inducted into the HOF. So you can omit them right now.

I'll take the minority stand on this one, but if Bob Marley and the Wailers are in the Hall, then there is absolutely NO reason why Jimmy Cliff is not there yet. Cliff was making great reggae music before anyone outside of Jamaica had any idea who Bob Marley was. None of this year's nominees deserve to get in more than him.

As for the other 11, I think Genesis and RHCP will get in and it's a crapshoot for the final two spots, assuming Jimmy Cliff gets the other. I don't think Kiss, ABBA, or Darlene Love gets in though. Take your pick from the others.

They seem to focus too much on American artists. Hence why Maiden(UK) and Rush(Canada) keep getting overlooked.

quite lame indeed.

I'd say Kiss and Genesis should be sho-ins, but who the hell knows. LL Cool J probably will also make it in, even though this is supposed to be a rock HOF, not a rap HoF. (At least Run DMC can be justified somewhat due to their sound, and helping revive Aerosmith's career in the 80's.

How are the Stooges not in the hall yet?

glad to see LL. and before the nimrods say he isnt rock, niether is ray charles, fats domoino or miles davis.

just like any hof, it is subject to the opinions of the hall operators. certain artists are going to be excluded by the whims of a selected few.

Still no Stevie Ray Vaughn? WTFreak!!

I think KISS is on the ballot just to shut people up. I don't see them going in...yet. I'm a fan of them, but they did nothing groundbreaking musically. Now as far as stage shows and marketing, yes. Almost every act today is doing the big stage, pyro thing.
I do think GENESIS will get in...finally! How many bands can change lead singers at was their creative peak, and become even bigger, all while changing there style?!
At least there's hope that we'll finally see see the long awaited reunion with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett. Even if it is only a few songs.
