The Who To Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show
Posted by Ashish on 11.12.2009

The Who is apparently set to headline the Super Bowl XLIV halftime show on February 7th in Miami, FL. This will be the band's first performance in the U.S. since 2008. The NFL has not yet confirmed the news, but they should announce it soon.

This continues the NFL's recent trend of using older acts to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.

Should the NFL go back to using acts that are relevant in today's music scene, or stick with legends?

How dare you say the Who aren't relevant? For that, I shall eat your soul.

What band of today is going to have that appeal universally for everyone to watch. The Foo's maybe?
Legends = Success

UGH!! Get Lady Gaga or Lil Wayne

I saw The Who during their last U.S. tour and they were fucking amazing. One of the best concerts i've ever seen. So much better than many of the "relevant" bands you may be referring to Ashish.

I can see for miles that this is going to be a good thing...such a bargain for the NFL. Now the question is, will Madden be there on his magic bus?

Great more "dad" rock. I hope Pete doesn't slide his crotch to the camera.

Well since the Game will be on CBS, I would say NO!

Football is watched by MEN.

Fuck the stupid acts like JT, Britney, Gaga, Rhianna, and everyone else aimed at teenage girls!! Unless I'm seeing Janet's tits again they need to stay as far away from the Super Bowl as possible.

who???? never heard of them - im not joking, im 24, am i supposed to know them?? NFL are such idiots when it comes to the half time shows. Get CURRENT artists you fools!!

If they want to attract a younger, more ethnically diverse crowd they should... the NFL is becoming similar to NASCAR and MLB as far as marketing goes. When I think NFL and MLB, I think country and classic rock. I'm not saying it's bad, but it is one of the reasons why I personally prefer the NBA over the NFL and MLB. I like being able to watch entertainers who I know, not entertainers who my grandparents know.

The NFL should keep making sure the halftime show kicks ass. Tom Petty kicked ass. Bruce Springsteen kicked ass. Before they started using the legends, the halftime show had a strong tendancy to suck balls.

The vast majority of modern music is utter garbage. Stick with the legends, at least they have some fucking talent. Will any of todays acts actually be remembered 20 years from now? Very few I imagine. It's all cheap disposable crap these days, so any chance you get to put some real musicians out there, then you go for it.

The problem is that Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen are actually legends. I seriously couldn't name one song by the who. Just because they are old doesn't make them legends. Who gives a Shxt about the halftime show of the superbowl anyways? It is a joke that michael jackson did a halftime show about "holding the world's children in his hands" or whatever that was about. And it is a joke that Nelly actually performed at a superbowl halftime. It is sad to watch these wrinkled up has beens get on stage and make idiots of themselves, but the superbowl halftime show has always been a celebration of how pathetic and talentless our society is. It is a FOOTBALL game. who gives a shxt about the halftime show when anyone that cares about football is using the pisser at halftime anyway

Wait, the Super Bowl is in Miami and they've got The Who as the half-time act?

Please tell me they have Horatio Caine to introduce them with a pun.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHH!

Good to know the NFL supports pedophiles by allowing The Who to play The Super Bowl halftime program.

WELL SAID. Not to mention the teeny boopers you mentioned have no talent.

Legends w/ newer performers doing a song with them.

Do not compare Bruce to The motherfucking WHO!

I'm not even a big Who fan but I know my role and respect them greatly. How about you go learn something about music instead of comparing two totally different bands from two different eras.

Fucking idiot.

who the heck is the who?

There goes my dreams of a Kanye & Taylor Swift halftime show :(

Relevant? The only reason Lady Gaga gets attention is because of payola.

Posted By: Michael (Guest)  on November 12, 2009 at 10:31 PM

Super Bowl parties aside, Men watch football. When teen girls are the NFL's key audience have Hannah Montana or Rihanna or other such garbage. Until then, The Who are beyond a great choice.

Posted By: Guest#0497 (Guest)  on November 12, 2009 at 10:44 PM

relevant? Would you really like to be watching the Super Bowl and then have the Jonas Bros in the middle of it?

Posted By: Guest#6796 (Guest)  on November 13, 2009 at 12:04 AM

even 40 years later, two original members down, The Who are still 1 000 times better than 95% of the new acts that they could get.

'who???? never heard of them - im not joking, im 24, am i supposed to know them?? NFL are such idiots when it comes to the half time shows. Get CURRENT artists you fools!!'

uh, yea, ok. lemme guess, you are some whacked out wigger from the mean streets of the Hamptons, right? no one who is going to watch the Superbowl in the demographic the NHL wants to hit will give two shits about your Justin Timberlake or that 50 cent pussy.

i wouldn't diss the NFL for not having 'current music' i would thank them wholly and completely. i don't need to see lipsynched same as everything else shit.

One would hope that all of these poor individuals that have never heard of The Who would look into them with an open mind. I, for one, am totally thrilled with the choice.

Posted By: Guest#2208 (Guest)  on November 13, 2009 at 12:21 AM

Who isn't relevant?? Who do you want? Jonas Brothers?

Posted By: Guest#2511 (Guest)  on November 13, 2009 at 01:06 AM

Nothing against the Who, they are legends, as is Petty, McCartney, Springsteen, and the Stones...but could the NFL get an act that is not eligble for the early bird discount???

Posted By: Eric (Guest)  on November 13, 2009 at 08:55 AM

Kanye would run on the field during the coin toss and claim that another team was better than who was playing in the Super Bowl

Have you ever watched any of the CSI shows? If so then youve heard them. Thats whos songs they use for the theme songs. Also go on youtube or something and look them up. You might hear a song and go oh yeah I know that song .
Or do you just totally not listen to any kind of rock music?

Posted By: Guest#0738 (Guest)  on November 13, 2009 at 09:26 AM

As soon as any of the other acts discussed can sell-out a stadium size world tour, they will be considered. You want to monster rock show, gotta look to acts with stadium size chops. Hopefully, nobody with a walker will be trampled in the rush of on-field "fans" taking the field.

The Who are epic, and still very much relevant. Fail post here.
