Pete Doherty Sings Nazi National Anthem At German Show
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 12.02.2009
Oh mein Gott!
Pete Doherty played a German festival in Munich this weekend. His set included his own version of "Deutschlandlied" ("The Song of Germany"), the German National Anthem.
In his performance, Doherty included the original first verse, which has been banned in Germany since after World War II due to its association with Hitler and the Nazis. The verse translates, "Germany, Germany above all / Above all in the world. When, for protection and defense, it always takes a brotherly stand together. / From the Meuse to the Memel, From the Adige to the Belt, Germany, Germany above everything. Above everything in the world."
After playing the song (and a few more), Doherty was forced to leave the stage early and the live broadcast of the show was cut.
The radio station hosting the event stated, "As the British say, 'We are not amused.' Unfortunately, it was unforeseeable. Live is live."
Somebody needs attention....guessing he has a new CD coming out?
