Dr. Conrad Murray has officially been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.
According to the criminal complaint, the D.A. alleges Dr. Murray "did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson...in the commission of an unlawful act, not a felony; and in the commission of a lawful act which might have produced death, in an unlawful manner, and without due caution and circumspection."
Dr. Murray will be arraigned today at 1:30 pm PST (4:30 pm EST) and he is expected to plead not guilty. He is also expected to arrive at the courthouse at around 1:00 pm, accompanied by his lawyers and a bail bondsman. Bail should be set at $25,000. If convicted, Dr. Murray faces a maximum of four years in prison.
According to the L.A. County Coroner's Office report (released today as a result of the charges against Dr. Murray), Jackson died as a result of acute Propofol intoxication. The manner of death was ruled a homicide, with that conclusion is based on the following 4 items:
1. Circumstances indicate the Propofol and the benzodiazepines were administered by another.
2. Propofol was administered in a non-hospital setting without any appropriate medical indication.
3. The standard of care for administering Propofol was not met. Recommended equipment for patient monitoring, precision dosing and resuscitation was not present.
4. The circumstances do not support self-administration of Propofol.
