MTV Changes Logo
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 02.08.2010

Notice anything different about the new MTV logo? It was inevitable really: the network no longer advertises itself as Music Televsion, something it has done for the past 30 years. Of course people have known that the music was gone for years, but now the network is admitting it too.

The M on the new logo looks suspiciously like the M from Miramax.

What music is their really to cover? The quality of music has declined for many many years now. There are no new huge acts now.

30 years ago I couldn't walk around with every song I liked in my front pocket.

The fact that MTV is still around is amazing, they can't play videos forever.

The way we do everything has changed.

Posted By: Ant-LOX (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 08:32 PM

MTV hasn't played music for over a decade unless you are up at 3am like a total druggie. What are you people complaining about, this is old news. Get over it.

Even if they did play music, would you even watch it or just click over to youtube?

Like when Nintendo changed their logo from red to grey and called it a new logo. "We used to be all fun and colourful, now we're mind-numbingly boring and our logo reflects that".

Posted By: Guy (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 08:55 PM

Coming from someone who first got MTV back in 1984, this is sad news. Even though I haven't watched MTV in at least 10 years. Still, at one time, it was the most awesome thing on TV. It just goes to show how far ahead of his time Jello Biafra was when he wrote the Dead Kennedy's song "MTV Get Off the Air".

You only NOW hate them?

No harm done. Music videos are much better suited for YouTube, iTunes or other distributors who deal in bite-sized media. A television network that is sincerely dedicated to music videos cannot thrive.

I don't mind it. MP3s, Ipods and internet changed the way we listen to music, and while I think MTV could still have an afternoon music show, I'm not mad at them for trying to keep the station running given its aparently popular

Mtv has sucks for years now! its all stupid tv now. They need to bring back the music!!

The end of TRL in 2008 signaled the beginning of the end of MTV as "MTV: Music Television". But I could suggest that the end of MTV as "MTV: Music Television" began early in the last decade, when they put more emphasis on reality shows.

So R.I.P. MTV: Music Television (8/1/1981-2/8/2010)

Posted By: D.H. (Guest)  on February 09, 2010 at 07:34 PM

You know, I bet MTV would actually increase their profits if they kept both reality television and music videos but moved one to different times. In other words, instead of showing reality television all day practically, move it to later prime-time slots, and show regular music videos during the day with a large variety. Then, when the prime-time slots are over, show the music videos again. And, instead of having like hip-hop blocks 24-7, have more of a mix during the day. People want to see all different kinds of music (unless they are stupid and close-minded). So, have more of a mix. Back when MTV showed more music, it helped people get discovered, and it helped consumers find more music to purchase. Doing so can only help that market's economy.

I guess maybe this is all happening because other music channels are doing the music video job for MTV? I dunno. I just know that MTV use to be a music powerhouse, and all the other music channels usually only come with a certain service, or you have to pay for them. MTV was always on regular cable. So now, if you want just music videos, you can't get them from basic cable :(.
