David Ellefson Returning To Megadeth
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 02.09.2010

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has announced the return of original bassist David Ellefson to the group. This reunion coincides with the band's month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour which launches March 1st in Spokane, WA, where the band will play the landmark album in its entirety.

"This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness," Mustaine says. "David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked...HARD!"

David Ellefson concurs: "This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike. It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career."

Ellefson joins Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar). Bassist James LoMenzo, who played on Megadeth's last two albums, including the latest Endgame, will be stepping aside for Ellefson's return.

"We'd like to thank James LoMenzo for several years of loyal service on the bass, and wish him the very best," Mustaine adds.

Ellefson was part of Megadeth from the beginning until their brief break-up in 2002. He did not return when Mustaine resurrected the band in 2004 and spent several years after feuding with the band over rights and royalties. Jimmy Sloas replaced Ellefson briefly, then James MacDonough, before LoMenzo earned the bassist position in 2006.

Let me guess here ... Junior finally sobered up? A resolution to all the lawsuits flying around previously?
Mustaine now has full custody of Megadeth and all the songs, and Junior is now an employee, just like Gene and Paul had Ace and Peter on the reunion shows?

Ellefson & Mustaine were co-founders. It'd be more appropriate for the subheading to be "Megadeth founders bury the hatchet..."
