Santana taking on Cream, The Beatles, Hendrix, The Stones, CCR and more -- and yes, Rob Thomas is on there!
Carlos Santana is a busy dude lately - he's celebrating the 10th anniversary of his band's landmark Supernatural album this year (recently given the deluxe reissue treatment) and getting reading to reignite his "Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits" Vegas show in April.
Santana's next album - like Supernatural, overseen by Sony's Clive Davis - will find him covering several classic rock songs. Tracks announced include Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" with Rob Thomas, the Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with India.Arie and Yo-Yo Ma, Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" with Joe Cocker, the Rolling Stones' "Can't You Hear Me Knocking " with Scott Weiland, Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son."
"We're not comparing or competing with those artists -- we're complementing them," Santana says. "But when you hear this, you're gonna do 'Damn!' because it sounds so powerful, with vitality and vibrancy. Like Wayne Shorter says, it's completely new, totally familiar."
