Dave Grohl says the process has started...
According to the band's frontman Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters will be back in the studio in September to start work on their next album. He added that they have just started the writing process for the album.
Them Crooked Vultures, of which Grohl is also a member, is also looking to release an album this year.

Despite the fact I think Dave Grohl is GIGA-talented, and I feel the band overall has a good sound and is super-musical, I feel like we (the people) haven't heard from the Foos in awhile. Call me selfish or opinionatd. But I think they are just one mega-hit away from a top-spot as one of the current hard rock heavyweights.
If not, perhaps they want to stay underground? Maybe, like Nirvana, they shun the limelight.
That said, hopefully this new material will bring a much-needed and much-deserved smash hit to the fans. That is "if they want one.
