30 Seconds To Mars, Maroon 5, Shinedown & More Join Korn's BP Boycott

Tons more bands teaming up with Korn, plus Rise Against and Jared Leto speak out...
Several more bands have joined Korn's boycott against BP and its affiliates, including Maroon 5, Shinedown, 30 Seconds To Mars, Chevelle, Sevendust, Puddle of Mudd, Neon Trees, Halestorm, Mutiny Within, Saliva, Soulfly, Story of the Year, Adelitas Way, 10 Years, Hail The Villain and the Carnival of Madness Tour. That brings the total to 30 artists and 2 festival tours on the list of people who won't be purchasing BP products during this summer's concert season.
30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto comments, "As someone born in Louisiana, this hits close to home. It is an already fragile ecosystem hit by this terrible and senseless tragedy of unprecedented proportions; it is heartbreaking that this has happened. As people work to find solutions to help deal with this catastrophe hopefully there will be new measures put in place to address the dangers of our complete and total reliance on fossil fuels."
"We've noticed the BP oil disaster being referred to as one of our country's biggest natural disasters, but let's be clear, this is a man-made disaster," says Rise Against. "Even the word "spill" is misleading, as what happened in the Gulf of Mexico was April 20th, 2010 was and is a systematic failure on the part of a corporation made too powerful by the exiting Bush Administration. Boycotting BP will not end our dependency on oil, or change the fact that our infrastructure is set up so that we all use oil in some capacity of our daily lives. But it sends a message loud and clear that consumers will not tolerate the kind of reckless irresponsibility and lack of respect BP has shown for, among many things, the myriad ways of life in the Gulf Of Mexico. If it makes even one company re-think it's safety measures, or maybe off-shore drilling as a whole, your voice is worth it. Until corporations grow a conscience, the only place to hit them is their wallet; their bottom line."
"Is boycotting BP the answer to our nation's dependency on oil?" Rise Against asks. "No. This disaster signals that America is overdue for radical changes in our infrastructure, not just a boycott. Are the gas stations you visit instead of BP perfect angels? No, but they are scared shitless that you might boycott them too, and if that's what it takes to get them to clean up their act, so be it. The worst thing that we can do is stand by and do nothing. Inaction will ensure that this happens again, so please be a part of the solution. Rise Against is proud to be a part of the growing list of bands that have committed to boycotting BP, and we hope you too decide to be a part of the solution in these tumultuous times."

I love M5! They also did this great live version of “She Will Be Loved” on an all-star compilation CD that benefits tsunami victims in Indonesia. The CD was recently put out by an awesome humanitarian organization called Aid Still Required. Definitely worth getting! www.aidstillrequired.org/music/
