The reason Rolling Stone is no longer relevant is just for this very reason...

They are still obsessed with the fricking Beatles!!!!

Whether it be top song or album lists that have the Beatles always in the top spot or all over the top ten, it is just more of the same.

This is probably the only list I ever agree on from BS mag.

Posted By: Ant-LOX (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 01:05 PM

I'd put "In My Life" at #2. Other than that, I can't really argue.

Posted By: RudoWakening (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 01:13 PM

Probably the only good list that magazine ever put out.

It's hard to pick the ten best Beatles song. Still, I would have put Eleanor Rigby, Revolution, and A Hard Day's Night somewhere in the top 10.

And when someone BETTER comes along, they can HAVE all the top ten lists. Until then,it's The Beatles. Sorry.

Perhaps if another band or artist comes along and surpasses The Beatles you'll get your chance to see somebody else top these lists. Until then you can cuddle up with your Justin Bieber singles and Lady Gaga albums and take solace in the fact that at least you like them, even if Rolling Stone doesn't share your appreciation.

I ended my Rolling Stone subscription mainly because they are stuck in the past. And when it comes to current artists, it annoys me how willing they are to do multiple Lady Gaga covers, or even crap like the Jonas Brothers, while pushing acts like Arcade Fire to the side.

Posted By: Onion Man (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 01:49 PM

I was expecting a worse than list they got 1 right, and Strawberry Fields should be second but it's not a bad effort at all by RS standards.

Uncut's Top 200 selected by staff and critically acclaimed artists was far far far better though.

Rolling Stone is garbage propaganda. Don't believe everything you read.

Posted By: MBD (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 01:59 PM

The beatles are always going to be all over top song or album lists, they set the standard: the two guitars, bass, and drums; the pop song format; the harmonies; guitar and bass licks that have been used and reused by other bands ad nauseu; etc, etc.

The real crime is the Top 10 nonsense, which is another way of saying "We're too lazy to write something creative or insightful. This site loves them, too.

Posted By: Guest#2135 (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 02:01 PM

And yes, I understand that this list is all-Beatle.

Posted By: Guest#5052 (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 02:01 PM

Such an irrelevant conversation. The Beatles have so many great songs that it is impossible to label any one as the greatest.

Posted By: Guest#9143 (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 02:15 PM

Yea youre right #7168, they should have more Led Zep & Dylan songs in their list of Top 10 Beatles songs.

And? They made undeniably classic albums and tunes, that doesn't change just because years have passed since they were released...

Decent list, although 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' shouldn't be so high and I bemoan the lack of 'Eleanor Rigby.'

BEMOAN, I SAY!!!!

No Freebird?

STFU and remember the Beatles are the most importaznt band in music history.

I'm an average fan, the Beatles had some great songs...but to rank the top 100? How many songs did they have?

What the fuck is "Arcade Fire"? And that, is why Rolling Stone doesn't care about them. Get them out of your local dive bar and a gig with more than 50 people, and maybe people will pay attention.

Yeah, because if you don't think The Beatles are the greatest band ever then you must be a Bieber fan.

Typical arrogant Beatles fanboy thinking that they arent THE MOST MAINSTREAM BAND EVER.
Dude was right about the constant bore of Beatles appearing on lists. They are good though, of course.

How can ANYONE ever come up with a definitive top 10 Beatles songs list? Although it is cool because it sparks debate over which songs should be ranked higher & which songs should have gotten included instead of which others.

While all 10 of these songs are great (and I agree A Day in the Life is the best Beatles song ever, although In My Life is a close No. 2), There are so many others that deserve consideration:

Drive My Car
Paperback Writer
Norwegian Wood
And I Love Her
With a Little Help From My Friends
Getting Better
Here Comes the Sun
Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da
Revolution
Can't Buy Me Love
Mother Nature's Son
Blackbird
Here there and Everywhere
Get Back
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Octopus' Garden
Lady Madonna
All You Need is Love

If they came out today people would crucify them for writing easy, simple pop songs (the early stuff) or being weird for the sake of being weird (a la Radiohead). I don't begrudge those who like em (my dad fucking ADORES them) but they're not my cup of tea.

Except "Eleanor Rigby." That is some deliciously evil-sounding shit right there.

"I Want To Hold Your Hand" is a terrible song, it's so god damn annoying. I can listen to their post-Revolver material when it comes on the radio or whatever but their early pop stuff is terribly annoying

Posted By: Jcon (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 04:25 PM

The Beatles are a terrible band Faust and Captain Beefheart should have top ten lists on there.

Posted By: Piero Scaruffi (Guest)  on August 31, 2010 at 04:29 PM

STFU about the Beatles already, so much of their stuff was over-rated wank it's unbelievable.

Maybe some people want to find good music rather than have it fed to them. And Arcade Fire arent exactly a cult band. They have just sold out their recent stadium tour. Buck up your ideas.

They sold out two back-to-back shows at Madison Square Garden a few weeks ago, and their latest album debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. Maybe you should pay more attention.

Arcade Fire had a #1 album just a couple of weeks ago and have been playing arenas. Where have you been?

Take out Strawberry Fields ,Come Together, Hey Jude and Let it Be and add
Helter Skelter & And your bird can sing & Nowhere Man & I'm only Sleeping
but other than that.... yes That's about right

No insult intended here #7168 but The Beatles are one of (if not) the best off all time. Their music is something that can never be duplicated. Great list!!

Just because "Arcade Fire" has a #1 album and sold out MSG x2 doesn't make them good. Bieber is the biggest act on the planet right now, Katy Perry has a number 1 single every week and Jersey Shore is the most watcheed show on televison... Popular doesn't equal good...
